Denied sees what you're playing in Spotify, iTunes and Apple Music and automatically skips songs that you dislike. Tracks can be skipped by their artist, title, album, whether they contain explicit lyrics*, or if you’ve heard them before in the past few hours. Denied allows you to truly enjoy Top 40 playlists, the Christmas season, Spotify Radio and iTunes Radio. Works with the Spotify desktop app, iTunes and Apple Music. As seen on the internet ––––– "That’s where Denied comes in. With a few clicks, you can banish your least-favorite songs or bands from earshot for good." – Macworld "Spotify is awesome, but it has one problem. When you're listening to compilations or radio, you sometimes come across artists you hate. Denied fixes that by creating simple rules." – Lifehacker "Fortunately you can now download a nifty little app to prevent unwanted artists sneaking into your speakers." – FACT Features ––––– • Create rules to skip songs by their title, artist or album. • Specify match criteria: starts with, ends with, contains or equals to. • Skip songs that contain explicit lyrics. • Skip songs that you've heard before in the past few hours. • Skip songs that you've marked as 'disliked' in iTunes and Apple Music. • See which song is currently playing and.. • Add rules straight from the Now Playing information. • Optionally display notifications when a song is skipped. • Import and export rules, allowing you to download pre-made rule lists and share your own rules with your friends. Requirements ––––– • Works with the Spotify desktop app, iTunes and Apple Music. • You'll need a distaste for certain bands, songs or albums, explicit lyrics or repeating songs. * Skipping explicit songs requires an internet connection. Obviously nobody in their right mind would skip a song by Gunship. That album art is just too awesome though.
What’s New

    Very useful
Skip repeating songs makes both Spotify and Apple Music useable.

    It Works!
I’m a design teacher and love to play Spotify in my classroom when students are working independently. Denied allows me to play those playlists I used to have to bypass due to the multiple titles with explicit content. Show more

    No more christian rock!
I can finally skip all of the christian rock music that Spotify is so intent on playing! I built a list of over 1,000 christian artists based on Spotify playlists and Wikipedia. The import feature in Denied reads in JSON, I converted my list to the right format and ran the import. It’s working perfectly! My devil worshipping can continue uninterrupted now! Skipping recently played songs is a big plus, I didn’t realize how often the same songs were repeated. I’ve found so many new artists and songs because of this feature! If I leave Spotify up on my desktop and start playing it on my phone the app on the computer still continues to skip repeats and blocked artists/songs. A big thank you to the developers for producing an incredibly useful app! Show more

    Totally worth it!
This is a must have add on to Spotify. Shame on Spotify for not implementing these features themselves. Setting a time that you don’t want to hear a repeat song is an awesome feature since Spotify can’t seem to make a decent shuffle algorithm. Show more

Makes Spotify Family and Workplace Friendly!
Users have been asking Spotify for the option to exclude songs with “Explicit" tags since 2012! After 5 years it appears that this will never be implemented in their code. I’m glad to have found this app, which accomplishes this easily and affordably. Thank you! Show more

A must-have for public Spotify playlists!
This app is so good it should be integrated into Spotify itself. If you listen to public playlists and are tired of that one song that just keeps playing all the time — get Denied. You can also save your ears from Justin Bieber & Co. Worth every penny! Show more

Huge step in the RIGHT direction (Thank you!)
I have bee using spotify since it started in the US, and every update makes good strides in the right direction. I have written them about toggling explicit track on off, but to no avail. THIS however, does it’s job well, and the keyword-rules are awesome too! This is a great alternative to a necessary setting that doesn’t exist, and so it’s a must-have. The interface is very simple, clean and extremely efective. The notifications are useful if you want to know that is working to skip recurring songs, but for explicit material, it’s just as well that I don’t know it was ever next in the queue. It has been flawless for me, and I would HIGHLY recommend this little app (and I have!) Thanks Boy, Show more

    Learn to Love Spotify Again!
I listen to Spotify all the time while working…AND I WORK A LOT! Spotify has a great variety of music, however, they have no concern about over-playing a song. This is common if you are listening to a radio station or a playlist and even more common if your session is interrupted and you must push play on the station again. Spotify will play as if you were never listening to it. Denied sits up in my toolbar and notifies me when it skips a song because I’ve heard it recently. I have it set to the max 72 hours so I get the most variety. Denied notifies me often because Spotify is trying to play a song I’ve recently heard all the time. The end result is that I get to hear the “other songs” from my favorites artists…not just the most popular songs. Yes, this should be spotify that provides this service, but until that day comes Spotify will get “Denied” and I will enjoy listening while working. Thanks for the simple, but effective app. Show more

    Only one problem...
… you might actually end up listening to Nickelback while you are setting it up and testing it, by accident. Even a little exposure might be too much. I will use it with iTunes radio, and it will make it better. Show more
