It turns your MAC computer so to speak, in a 16-channel MIDI expander. Functions of the DLS-MIDI-Synth: 1. Load and manage SoundFonts in *.dls und *.sf2 file format. 2. Direct connection to an MIDI port or set up a virtual MIDI port. 3. Control of the integrated room effect. 4. Mixer for all 16 MIDI channels. 5. Audio is outputted via a freely selectable audio hardware (including single outputs) 6. In the output section, an adjustable peak limiter is integrated. 7. Exporting and importing all settings by *.dlspatch files.
What’s New
1. Fixed a crash when the app is started with a document 2. SoundFonts can now be organized into sub-directories 3. Symbolic links within the SoundFonts directories are followed

    fluid
This does what I needed. It reminds me quite a lot of FluidSynth. It plays soundfonts. I like the little knobs too.

Works well, but needs some improvements
This app works fine, but it doesn’t respect the GM drums-on-channel-10 standard, so I have to manually set the drum patch virtually every time I open it. Also, the patch selector UI is a hot mess. Show more

    Very useful product!
If you want to be able to use SoundFonts or DLS sound banks with your keyboard or as an output device for a MIDI application, DLS-MIDI-Synth is defintely the way to go. I have used it happily for a number of months. Yes, there are some enhancements that I would like to see. However, in its current state, the product fulfills an important void in the world of MIDI applications. I’m a grateful customer! Show more

    Not a mixer
I had the impression this product was some kind of mixer, but it’s not. First of all, it supports only one MIDI input, so you can’t mix muitiple input streams (e.g. multiple instruments). (But the author has another, more expensive app, that will allegedly “fix” that limitation.) Secondly, the 16 sliders are fixed to one MIDI channel each, so you can't use it to “layer” multiple sounds from a single MIDI input channel. Finally, for your single channel, single voice, all you get is a volume slider and “pan” and “reverb” knobs. Since volume and balance are built in to OSX, all you really get for your money is the “reverb”. Show more

    Decent little app...
Works well enough, but it would be nice if you could use it as an AU in GarageBand or Logic. Pretty limited otherwise.
