DrumPerfect Pro

DrumPerfect Pro is without doubt the most complete, open, fully programmable drum/percussion music production system ever created for iPad. The wealth of professional features it offers is just astonishing. Yet its most distinguished quality is probably its confounding capacity to emulate so musically the human feel of pro drummers performances in any genre, as you will see. Here is what Gilbert Medam, professional composer and arranger, creator of the pack collection as well as designer of the new UI writes: In the musical consciousness, rhythm is without question a most fundamental element. Combining movement with numbers, it is found in music all around the world and at any period of human history. Musicians, particularly drummers and percussionists by nature excel in precise body movement, coordination and inevitably inspire listeners to join the dance. On the other hand computer systems excel, by design, in powerful processing of numbers. We are constantly, Marinus and I, attentive to this simple fact when refining and expanding DrumPerfect Pro. Because we want our app to excel in coming as close as it can be, to a perfect integration of both performances. In this new version, if you are passionate about rhythms, drums and beyond, you will find, we think, the best companion for your music adventure and production. Its flexibility will surprise you. Program on multitrack/layers, multi-velocity sampling, the most intricate patterns, improvising songs. Unleash your wildest experimentation in the creative and fun process. It is the high end app of choice for: - drums/percussions professional track production - live performance with the brand new AUv3 player - practice and training for musicians in any musical genre - easy loading and playing of your own library of midi files. - study, understanding and experimenting from the massive collection of world rhythms available in the packs. High-quality music packs available as IAP, in many different music styles and ready to be used in your own productions.

    Dear Developer
I opened up your app again today because I have always wanted to take advantage of what it offers. I’ve owned it for years, but the frustration it caused always defeated my efforts to sort it out. However, I have an exciting project that really needs a human feel and a realistic acoustic sound, so I was determined to finally understand how to use your app. And, with hours of effort, I finally started to piece together enough information from the manual and quick guide to begin to feel like it’s going to eventually all make sense. Not enough to actually do what I want yet, but enough to feel confident that I’ll get there. That’s when I decided I’m never going to recommend your app, and I’m going to try to find an alternative as soon as I finish this review. Because once I started to see how it works, I realized that you could have just explained and demonstrated it it to your users in a few thoughtfully constructed tutorials. Or you could have introduced improvements to the interface. Or—given the number of years since the app was originally released—you could have done both. So, congratulations. DrumPerfect Pro isn’t the only music app that I found challenging to learn, but it is the only one that made me feel contempt for its creator. Your app is an insult to musicians whose time should be spent making music, not untangling some mad developer’s brain (while paying for the privilege). You should be embarrassed and ashamed. Overly complicated
Okay. I just got the stock kits to trigger with a Roland Octapad spd- 30, so I decided to move forward with the app. I soon discovered there’s no easy way to disable pattern play, and simply play kits live. I poked around and erased the patterns, but upon a reboot I’m back to digging around on how to disable. Next, I decided to purchase the rock kit (demos of all kits not loading BTW) and I can’t figure out where to access the new kit. Where the new kit I just purchased? It’s seeming like this is way more complicated than it needs to be. I’ll be looking for a refund soon, cause I don’t have time for endless futzing Show more

    Feature request
Hi I absolutely love the app the only thing I am missing is the ability to select all the midi patterns at once or multiple ones at that and export them all at once but separated files for each pattern. Could this be a feature? Thank you for your time. Show more

Historically love the app, but experiencing frustrating crashes

    Extremely Difficult
I’ve been using pro audio at major label and arena concert levels for decades. There is nothing intuitive out the layout and the graphical user interface. Eq’s and compressors and such are not located in the mixer page which runs contrary to every audio mixer design since the 40’s. Simply peaking at the drum samples causes a destructive edit of the drum kits. MIDI defaults only to channel 10 and not Omni like every piece of midi gear in the past 40’s years. I could go on but why bother. There is practically no decent internet tutorials. The few that do exist have a very think foreign accents further exacerbating the frustration of the user experience. I can’t recommend this program. Just use Garage band. It’s free and there’s little this offers over it. Show more

    Love it
So far this is the best drum app for IOs I have used so far. Once I got past the learning curve of the workflow this app has just been solid! Customer service was there when I need it, thx Marinus! Show more

Good app with quite a bit of depth.
Yes, it does take a bit to learn and there isn’t a whole lot of demo videos on this app, but once you get the hang of the layout, it is not that complicated and it is quite fun programming new patterns and songs, just spend a couple hours with it. I do feel Drum Perfect Pro is underrated but could use a few things to really make this app shine. Some features are kind of hidden like live view drum kit and the effects section isn’t the most clear. The drums are decent with multi samples and velocity layers for getting a real drummer sound but not great. I feel like some of the Tom sounds fall short and that the developer can do better with included kits and with making more kits available to choose from. I must say that I do like some of the crashes a lot and hi-hats though. But as far as kicks and snares I would like to see more along with better sounding toms. It’s not very straightforward if you want to import your own midi drum loops, I’ve tried several things and when I finally was able to get a couple into the app, they didn’t play anything. Maybe the mapping is different but there should be the option to change mappings as seen in other apps. The included loops are alright but there isn’t a whole lot without in app purchases. There’s definitely room for improvement but the developer seems to be interested in keeping this app going based on the version history so I look forward to new features and hope they come soon. It’s always exciting to me to look under updates in the App Store and see an app I like with new features. Show more

Just Want To Beat The Drum All Day...thank you
UPDATE 04/23/2019: The initial (quick) developer response got my DPPro wired up in AUM as a Audio Unit Extension. I have not run the combo for more for a few minutes now, but I wanted to get back to this quickly and add some stars. If things seem to keep working I'll buy some more drum packs and add at least another star.... I searched through the DPPro v.3 manual and I would not have found an answer to my original confusion. I might have stumbled upon the solution by chance or never have even encountered the problem if I had not been looking for AUE functionality from the get go. So all I can suggest is the developer reflect the changing nature of the iOS digital music 'eco-system' and add a blurb in the manual for ignorant new users primarily interested in AUE superpowers. As an aside to drum-beat AUE developers in general I'd just like to say I have not been impressed with the stability of the Beater's overall stability when left running in my typical long-playing "generative/randomized" music scenario. The 'big-name' popular synths are stable and can run for days without fail but the AUE capable little-beaters often don't get through the night. ORIGINAL 04/21/2019: Complete fail to work as Audio Unit Extension. Following Version 3 manual instructions fails to load any presets. The iPad image showing loaded presets is not happening on my iOS 12.2 iPad Pro at the moment. Attempts to drive DPPro as the proffered image suggests with PolyPhase (etc) has not worked either. As iOS and AU are moving targets I'll wait and see if DPPro gets its poop-in-a-group. That's what usually happens with music apps at least. The DPPro seems to work as a stand alone app, but, I was looking for a drum machine that was actually stable when running as an Audio Unit Extension when I paid my money. Until the iPad image promising Audio Unit Extension integration with AUM actually works as advertised I would say avoid DrumPerfect Pro v.3 as of mid April 2019. Hope to be able to revise my star rating upward in the future if updates correct at least the main complaint I have. Show more
