Turn any recording into a synthesizer! Now with support for Audiobus and MIDI. MegaCurtisBig uses an unusual hybrid of wavetable and granular synthesis to create tones and timbres quite apart from the standard FM or subtractive synthesis fare. Add this app to your arsenal to create sounds you simply cannot squeeze out of any other synth, no matter how much you’ve twiddled its knobs. Create a synthesizer from any recording, with endless tweaking possibilities. Play the sound forward, backward, or even at a single point! Unlike scratching a record, pitch doesn’t depend on how quickly you move through the recording. You can load sounds through iTunes, record directly with your iPad, or paste audio from other applications. Try it with speech, singing, synths, jackhammers, or birds. Mangle your recordings or create soft, gentle textures. What does MegaCurtis have that the old Curtis doesn't? Smoother Grains • Makes the glitch a little less glitchy and makes the synth a little more tonal Overlap Control • Successive grains can overlap for still more smoothness More LFOs • Modulate position, pitch, volume, and overlap Keyboard Scales • Set the keyboard to a musical scale for easier playability Four Voices • Play chords What does MegaCurtisBig add to MegaCurtis? Audiobus Support • Our number one request Interapp Audio • Courtesy of Audiobus Still Smoother Grains • Yes, a bit more massage for a smoother sound Filter Per Voice • Each voice now has its own lowpass filter Filter Envelopes • Why independent filters? Because envelopes User Presets • Save your work Reverb • Makes everything sound better Expressive Keyboard • Velocity on the y-axis, i.e. touch keys higher or lower for volume control Cleaner Interface • Specifically tailored for the iPad Folded Faders™ • More on this below What's up with these weird square knobs? The Folded Faders™ let you dial in 4096 steps of fine control in the space of 128 retina pixels. Instead of emulating a physical fader, which would only give you a maximum of 128 steps of control in the space provided, we've folded up the fader to lend you much more finesse. Move it slowly, and you can fine tune things in tiny increments, or move it quickly to easily make larger adjustments. It takes some getting used to, but ultimately you get far more control. Coarse Control • Drag quickly Fine Control • Drag slowly Dual Axis • Drag left/right or up/down, whichever is more convenient
What’s New
Fixes grain envelope and overlap calculations.

    Ultra granular classic
The bigger bro to Curtis, and a nice sampling grain synth! I love all the old apps and they are crying for updates so let’s hope this is just the start. I mean donut was my favorite app. Anyhow this app is as glorious or twisted as your imagination seeks. Show more

    Not impressed
Update: With no update in 2 years, still no note hold, text font still ridiculously small, no new features of any kind. Why would I risk $9.99 on Soup Granular and again risk have this developer abandoning it too? —- It's not an update. It's a separately sold app. Without note hold it hand cuffs your ability to do much since you have one hand tied up holding keys. The sound still has no punch. Show more

Interapp audio via audiobus = audiobus
Claims to have "interapp audio via audiobus" which seems to be simply audiobus with no actual interapp audio showing on the interapp audio menus. So If you have not purchased audiobus you don't have interapp audio. If the developer did not slap"tm" on everything this would be easier to overlook. The app itself is very cool take on granular synthesis and fun to play, and I happen to have audiobus so can play with other stuff. Actual interapp audio would be very welcome. Show more

    Will Be Truly Big When...
It finally is retrofitted to take advantage of the iPad Pro. Great app.

    Almost
Great concept, but there are a lot of bugs. Crashes, or loaded samples not working. Had minor audiocopy issues as well. Too bad really, I love the idea. Hope they fix it Show more

    a step backwards
that is what it is from the original Curtis, a step backwards. take everything good about the Curtis reduce those qualities, make it ipad big, and call it a new name...LACKING DISAPPOINTING should i give a play-by-play as to what is wrong with this thing...no, i'll let those who pay for this app to fing out for themselves...like i did Show more

    Seems unfinished
*No midi- this is supposedly on the phone version but not on the ipad? I don't get it. No hold toggle- It's hard to move the cursor and adjust the sliders while pressing the keys at the same time. Finicky sliders- If you go too slow while adjusting the attack/delay/depth/rate/etc your finger will end up in a far off place. This is where I want midi learn so I could use my knobs. Can't select parts- I thought for sure you'd be able to highlight an area and loop it like you could on the phone version. You can't on this one. WTH? I tried the free phone version on my iPad before I bought this and I thought it would be an improvement. It's not. It's missing features like the looping/no midi/keyboard overlay amongst having some UI problems that are annoying. Now, it's $2.99 and I'm going to keep this in hopes that most of these things get addressed because I do like the sounds. I'm tempted to buy the .99 phone version and use that, but we'll see where this iPad version goes at it was just released today. *Edit- reinstalled and midi now works on my ipad air 2 and m-audio keystation 49es. Still no midi-learn Show more
