NoSleep is an application that you use to prevent your Mac from going to sleep. In 'no sleep' mode there is an option to also disable the screen saver. Note: 1) The purpose of NoSleep is to keep the Mac awake so you can read the screen while not otherwise actively using the Mac. 2) It is not a menubar app. It is a regular app that appears in the Dock. 3) Will not prevent a laptop from going to sleep if the cover is closed to prevent overheating issues. Visit our website for other information and a demo. This app was conceived for musicians who use their Macs to read music as they play their instrument and consequently do not want their Mac to go to sleep. What can NoSleep do for me? It keeps your Mac awake for a given period of time. NoSleep updates system activity periodically as soon as it launches, until it is quit, or, for laptops, the battery charge level drops below a specified amount (which defaults to 10%) As soon as you launch NoSleep it prevents your Mac from sleeping until quit, or the battery charge level drops below a specified amount . You can schedule the time it quits so that you can leave it unattended. Do this in Preferences. Preferences Window: Use the Preference pane to specify quit time. Also use the text field on the preferences window for creating a timer to quit the app at a time you can specify as a (fractional) number of minutes. The timer is created as soon as editing stops in the text field, say by tabbing out of it, and each edit resets the timer. If the value of the text field is zero no such timer is created, and any previous such timer will be removed. Finally, in preferences you can specify a battery threshold so that NoSleep stops keeping the Mac awake at a certain level. This helps prevent the Mac from running out of energy when unplugged.
What’s New
Maintenance update. Previous Updates: The 'Sleep Time' was showing the system sleep time, now it shows the display sleep time. Other minor improvements. 1 - Option to disable the screen saver while preventing Mac from sleeping. 2 - "Always sleep after" is now an option via a checkbox. 3 - Displays the current battery charge and if battery is in use for Macs with a battery. 4 - Battery threshold control is hidden if the Mac does not have a battery. 5 - Option to hide battery threshold control if the Mac has a battery but it is using AC power. New informative labels: One label displays the amount of time the Mac has currently been idle, and the other displays the sleep time set in system preferences. These new labels appear in the upper right corner of the main window. FIXED: The date-time picker control for creating a timer to quit the app was not properly displaying the date and time. Also, alerts display that time similarly formatted to avoid confusion. NEW: In the main window, each timer displays its time remaining until it quits the app. (Note that if you have two timers running then the first expired timer will quit the app.) IMPROVED: For Macs that do not have a battery (desktop Macs) the battery threshold slider for disabling the app when the battery is low is hidden since it is not applicable.

This is NOT NoSleep by Pavel Prokofyev
There is a free application by Pavel Prokofyev, also called NoSleep, whick works great. But the one Apple is selling here is a mess. Notice all the one star reviews. Then notice there are no reviews between 1 and 5 stars. This typically indicates fake reviews by the developer, who is trying to counter all the bad reviews by real people. The free NoSleep can be found on MacUpdate. It's a couple years old though, so it might not work on the latest MacOS. I'm still back on Mojave, and it works great there. Show more

Does not prevent my Mac from sleeping when closing the lid
I’m not sure if that’s what this app was supposed to do (it probably wasn’t), but this should have been clearer in the description.

    Bogus Title.. VERY misleading!
I had used a program called 'nosleep' from Pavel Prokofiev which is free and works. I see this program in the AppStore has very poor review - it's NOT the same program. If you want to close the lid and keep awake (say in a coach airplane seat and you don't have room to keep the lid open while you listen to tunes..) then search for his name on line. I found it on code (dot) google (dot) com - search for nosleep there.. Show more
