In 1965, the first radio station in Qatar was established. It was broadcast on Fridays and occasions, the Holy Quran, religious programs and news. It was the first nucleus of the establishment of Qatar Radio officially on June 25, 1968.
Qatar Radio started broadcasting on a medium wave for five hours in Arabic and two periods: morning for an hour and a half, and evening for three hours.
And then increased to nine hours in 1969 and then to 13 hours in 1970, and rose again to nineteen hours in 1982 until the transmission became round the clock in 2002
Early on, as part of an ambitious plan to deliver Qatar's voice to non-Arabic speakers inside and outside Qatar, the foreign program was created in English in 1971, with a one-hour transmission until it reached 19 hours in 2004.
In 1980, the broadcasting service in Urdu, which found great resonance between the language-speaking community in Qatar and the rest of the Persian Gulf, started to broadcast one hour a day on medium wavelengths. In 1989 it was broadcast to 3 hours
In 1985, a new French-language service was launched, which began broadcasting three hours a day on the medium wave, a unique service in the entire region.
Since 1992, Radio Qatar has provided its listeners with a new service by establishing the Holy Quran Radio, which deals with the Holy Quran and its sciences, the Hadith and the books of interpretation, as well as the treatment of many contemporary issues.
