SampleFinder lets you quickly gather music samples for your project. With hundreds of samples across multiple folders, it's tough to test them with Apple's quick-preview feature (space bar). The last thing you want is to give up at the first hurdle. This app displays the entire contents of your sample folders in a single list. You can search, play and select samples, before saving them to a folder of your choosing. They're saved as copies, so nothing is ever lost. I find this really useful, I hope you do too.     Amazing! No idea this existed
    Someone came out with a similar app on ios a year or two back. I tred to convce her to roll out on Mac, hasn't happened but little did I know - we already have a solution. Brilliant! Show more

    An almost perfect tiny sample browser
    For quickly thumbing through a new set of samples, SampleFinder is almost ideal. It's better than Finder with or without any extension out there. I've found that it allows me to browse and search my samples without the ingestion-organization overhead of other more involved software, that can be cumbersome when you just want to have a quick peek at a new library as it was delivered, not as it was reorganized by the ingestion process. I have been buying apps for well over a decade and it is rare to find a developer so available, genial and responsive. This is a hidden gem for music sample management on the Mac platform. If you keep your samples in a single hierarchy, this is a great tool to plumb the depths, one directory branch at a time. It's faster than Finder and with the last update, it is just about ideal for the task. You can sort the results and autoplay unattended through each sample file in any directory structure (or through any searchable subset). It's not going to be everything to everyone, but here is how I have been using SampleFinder. When I have just downloaded a new sample pack and want to quickly have a listen through everything inside, this is now my go-to tool. It allows me to do two tasks extraordinarily well: search and browse. I don't download samples from inside my DAW. I download them to the filesystem. That's where they live. I also manage my samples inside the filesystem and use filenames that are up to the task. I'm from the school that the name of a media file should be long and cumbersome and tell you everything about the contents of the file you need to know that can't be revealed in metadata. It's so much easier that way. SampleFinder makes it super easy to search by keywords that exist in file and folder names -- WITH complex search expressions! It gets all the small details right too. It doesn't choke on tens of thousands of samples. There's just not much to choke on here. It remembers the last location you selected upon quit and defaults to the proper audio device. All the small things that get in the way if they're done wrong, and I've seen them done wrong. If you have simple sample management needs, beyond Finder, this may be perfect ... and the price is right. If you have complex sample management needs, again this may be perfect, for a subset of those needs. I for one appreciate the simplicity. I'm of the philosophy that it's better many small software tools that do one or two tasks well rather than a complex monolith. The developer seems to share this philosophy. He should charge more for this little jewel. Show more

    WOW! Great update. Great app!
    I downloaded the last version of the app and emaied the developer both my praises and some feedback for improvements & within a week he released a new version with some of the updates! Great developer everyone - quality app here for sure. Digging for samples ahead of time might not be part of your workflow now, but when you try this app it sure will become a part of it. It supports almost all file formats so even your FLAC files can be previewed. Looking forward to seeing where this app goes. It'll surely become an integral part of people's workflow - it already has with mine. :D Show more

    I needed this, and it was worth it
    I have about 3 Terabytes of samples in my sample folder, in different folders. The Mac/Space Bar combination has been quite slow lately (Mac Mini 2012 4GB RAM). So, I tried this. I have to say that so far it’s been great. It can be slow on some of my larger samples, but then, I have a huge sample library. The sound is pretty decent so far, but I have just started using it. All in all a great buy for $2.99. A couple of things that could be better: 1. support for other audio formats like ogg and flac 2. The ability to retain things by sub-folder instead of seeing every sample in the main folder. Yeah, you show the path, and I can search, which is great and useful, but there are times when I only want to see the gong samplesin a specific folder and scrolling through every sample is tedious. It would be cool to just see all the directories like a finder view. Maybe in the next version? I recommend this if you need a very basic, solid sample browser. Show more
