Shoom is an expressive XY pad synthesizer. Or, more precisely, three identical synthesizers in one app. It is capable of playing any pitch in the audible range and doesn’t necessarily limit you to a particular scale. Nevertheless, if you do want to use scales, Shoom can deliver anything from common 12-tone equal tempered to xenharmonic and microtonal. Features: • Three independent synthesizers • 8–20,000 Hz pitch range • Slide freely or snap notes to scale with adjustable glide rate • Set notes to infinite hold using a dedicated toggle • Microtonal and non-octave repeating scales support • MIDI note input (including MPE), CC control and clock sync • Optional remapping of MIDI notes to the pitches of the selected scale • Bluetooth MIDI support • Inter-App Audio support with main mix and individual synth outputs • Audiobus 3 support (including AB MIDI) • Ableton Link support • 120+ bundled presets • Import and export of presets and CC maps Synthesizer engine features: • Adjustable polyphony, up to 30 voices • Two oscillators with 4 waveforms and PWM, and one noise generator • Oscillator FM cross-modulation • 4 pole (24 dB/octave) resonant low pass filter with overdrive and pitch tracking • 2 variable slope ADSR envelopes for amplitude and filter cutoff • 2 LFOs with 9 waveforms, up to 3 out of 12 simultaneously assignable parameters, trigger and global running modes, fade-in and phase controls • Y-axis position / MIDI CC#74 as modulation source with up to 3 of 15 simultaneously assignable parameters • MIDI channel pressure / polyphonic aftertouch as modulation source with up to 3 of 15 simultaneously assignable parameters • MIDI velocity modulation of amplitude and filter envelopes • Note pan randomizer • Built-in stereo delay and reverb effects

Remains one the coolest sounding synths for iPads
Amazingly expressive, still essential in 2022.

    A dream come true
The possibilities offered in this app are great, intuitive design, being able to create your own tunings by assigning specific tone frequencies to each note and then making your own scales it’s a dream come true for me. Also the presets are fantastic as well, creating my own synths it’s a rewarding activity. Thank you very much. Show more

Just about the best drone-oriented synth there is, hw or sw on any platform.
The recent addition of individual outs makes it an order of magnitude more amazing. This guy is a genius.

    Thank you for updates
This is actually a great app. If making drones with a ton of virtual analog polyphony sounds up your alley, buy this.you can also do expressive theremin style leads too

    Not for the norm.
Love the sounds & update. Just ran it thru AUM, loving what I can do now.

    Deep and Fun
And it sounds fantastic. Do read the reviews. It is more soundscape than a traditional synth. And if you are willing to invest some time, you can do a lot. Have fun. Show more

    Experimental and Ambient niceness
First- Thanks to the developer for including Bluetooth speaker support. I've found this lacking in many other synth/music apps. I mainly work with ambient/experimental/avant-garde type stuff and I looove this app. I find Shoom very easy to extract inspirational loops, sounds ,drones from. I mainly work from a collage type approach and, once again, I find this excellent for that sort of use. I like the layout and the controls. Just great. Looking forward to more releases from this developer. ?? Show more

    Highly Performable
Here's the thing about Shoom ..it's not the most powerful whiz-bang, gizmo synthesizer ever created for the iPad. It has no 900 watt, voltage controlled, multi-mode flagging delay timber-shifting filter, highly complex modulation routing scheme, modular-synth aspirations or anything particularly inovative. It's actually a pretty simple, straight ahead instrument (actually THREE instruments, more on that later). Instead it has a conventional two-VCO, VCF, VCA voice path, a couple of ADSR envelope generators, a couple of LFOs, a VCA, delay and reverb. Pretty pedestrian by today's standard. So what makes this application so powerful, you might ask. Two things. First, the fact is it is highly performable. Everything is simple, direct and easily accessible and the layout strongly encourages interaction with its simple parts which, when combined, create something far greater than the sum of its parts. Under the hood, there are actually THREE identical synthesizers at work here and all three of them, while separately accessible are played from the same surface - color coded so you can keep track of what is going on on all three instruments. Switching between and controlling all three instruments is about as simple as it can be. Everything works as you would expect if you are experienced with just about any conventional keyboard synthesizer made in the last 40 years or so. The mod ranges are deep, which is GREAT. For example, you can really warp a VCO when you modulate it with an FM oscillator that sweeps 10 octaves! Any set up of the three synthesizers can be saved as a "session". Switching between sessions is instantaneous with no glitches. The sounds just ...change. Period. That is great for live performance and improvisation. Tuning systems and scales can also be freely selected and are stored with the session. Finally, Shoom just flat sounds GREAT. The audio quality is powerful, strong, clear and clean. Digital artifacts appear only in the near-supersonic range. So just about any patch comes off sounding as good as a high-quality hardware analog system. Hopefully the future holds some more advanced features and gizmos like a sequencer or arpegiator and maybe some more modulators (even just a couple more LFOs would be great), an additional effect or two and modulation routing (currently quite good) will be expanded even further. Overall, Shoom is a great sounding, highly interactive and playable synthezier despite it's conceptual simplicity. I really like it because it's design strongly encourages interactive creativity and live improvisation work. So ...get it. Show more
