SmashTunes is a very nice menu bar item that lets you control Music as well as Spotify. It displays information about the currently playing song as well and can also display artwork. SmashTunes offers hot keys to control Spotify or Music too. These hot keys control both apps system wide. Besides that, SmashTunes makes sure that Spotify is paused when you start listening to Music and the other way around. Features: - Song information in the menu bar - Music and Spotify control from the menu bar - Artwork display - System-wide shortcut key support for all control functions - Media key support - Song ratings and love tracks - Direct playlist selection - Automatically rate tracks that are loved (and love tracks that are rated) - Dislike tracks You can use SmashTunes for an hour, after which you are prompted to take a subscription for a year. SmashTunes follows the standard Apple End User License Agreement: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/.

- Random artwork was displayed in rare cases when there was no track playing - The keyboard shortcuts for the rating submenu were not displayed - Added a small timeout for skipping to the next track when using a keyboard shortcut with the option key as modifier. Using the option key, would skip to the next album.

    Excellent App that is Better Than Apple Music
    This app fulfills a huge gaping hole in the current functionality of the Mac. Currently, there is no way to keep an ever-present display of your misic on the screen. Now, with SmashTunes there finally is! I love being able to see the full name of the track, artist, and album—as well as duration. And with one click I can see the album artwork—something that is completely missing from Apple main Music app right now. With SmashTunes I barely have to interact with Apple's Music app and that is a good thing! Show more

    What a Marvalious App!
    I was looking for an easy way to see what was playing and rate my music. I didn't expect convenient features of hot keys (they work for me Meemaw312), easy customization, great readable font, and even cover art if you want it. Five stars if my suggestions for time remaing count down and dimmed stars for no rating make it. :) Show more

    Playlists from the Menu Bar!
    The functionality of this app goes above and beyond similar menu bar iTunes controllers that just let you pause and skip. You can see a menu of all your playlists as well and start them directly from the menu bar. This is way more efficient than going back into iTunes just to change a playlist. Show more

    Does what it says
    RE: Version 3.1.4 Nice to see updates over the years I’ve owned this, thanks! However, recently Playlist menu isn’t showing my playlists any more….that makes me sad. From my version 2 review…. I’ve been using a different iTunes control program for many years…that has been abandoned. I found SmashTunes by luck. I reallly wanted several simple things. A. The ability to play any of my playlists, from a menu. B. The ability to at least stop and start the music with a hotkey. C. I didn’t want to have to swich into iTunes to do the above. I wish it did more things and was more flexible and customizable…but hey, it does EXACTLY what i NEED so I’m happy to have purchased it. When there are upgrades I’ll enjoy them. Thanks SmashBits.     Clean and simple, does the job
    The main reason I bought this app was to see the song that’s playing in the menu and it delivered flawlessly. Playback controls are nice perks, too. My only complaint so far is the lack of support for new Apple Music functionality: likes for songs (ratings are here, but they’re not that relevant anymore) and the ability to start a radio from the current song. Dislikes are coming in Sierra and they would be nice to have, too. Still, the app does its main job perfectly, so I definitely recommend to buy it. Show more
