It took me a little bit to get it figured out how to get MPE midi data out of my iPad and into Ableton’s instruments, but once I did it worked awesome. Ableton supports MPE as of version 11 in a few of their most popular instruments including Wavetable, Simpler and Sampler. Once you get midi in from KB-1, you can map the notes, and x/y touch positions of slide and glide to any parameter you want in the Ableton instruments. I left a 1-star review on Feb 21 that I need to update/correct to a 5-star. In that review I said I couldn’t get KB-1 to connect to any instrument, but that I thought the app had a lot of potential. I emailed the developer at the same time, and he responded very quickly and pointed me to the solution. I didn’t check it out until now, and it did solve the problem. The app now works perfectly and it is as awesome as I expected it to be! The fix is that the destination app needs to have background audio (or the setting to allow the app to run in the background) must be set to be on. I admit that’s a no-brained that I should have looked for, but I assumed that would be the default operation for those apps. Apparently it’s not. Changing that setting was all that was needed. Now KB-1 works great and I am completely satisfied. Show more

I’m kinda new to midi and all that…. My question is how to make it work lol…. It says standalone but I can’t get it to work!!! Lol please help

OK, 6 stars. An excellent product. I have found no other MIDI input as versatile and useful as this.

I needed a MIDI controller for when I travel without a keyboard to work out ideas and do simple note input into Sibelius. This one is perhaps overkill, but it works flawlessly over Bluetooth without bothersome latency for something i really needed. What I really like is that on the surface of my iPad I can have a six-octave keyboard, significantly speeding up note entry. One less piece of gear to pack, this app is totally worth its price! I love this app. The app itself is a solid 10, but the lack of a proper manual or tutorials is a let down. Half the features I have to dig around to remotely understand and many others I still have no clue. Overall though you won’t find a better keyboard variety in any other app I’ve seen. Show more

The best keyboard app for playing multiple apps at once killer

Great idea and good implementation but constantly getting stuck midi notes in AUM. Sweeping across the keyboard fixes it, but it really ruins the flow. Hitting panic doesn’t fix it. Tends to happen when many fingers are in contact with the screen. Please fix this otherwise great app. Show more

This type of tool should’ve been standard for all music applications that come out today on iOS. Especially the DAWs. This app is very well implemented as a standalone and Auv3. The settings page for Auv3 could use an improvement to show more info on-screen. Someone left a recent review that stating this tool didn’t work in Cubasis. Maybe it didn’t once but, it works well now! Now if Cubasis would give me the option to make KB1 the default keyboard, things would be golden! Reward yourself with the future touch keyboards for iOS. This is what I’ve been looking. Gives you Roli style MPE without the hardware. One thing I found was that it does not work in Cubasis right now. Even as standalone. Works in AUM, BeatMaker 3 and Korg Gadget, but no sound in Cubasis. Hopefully Kai can address this in fixes ?. I’d really like to see this work in Cubasis. Show more

Very nice! Thanks for developing this. I can see it’s going to be very, very useful. But, please consider adding drum pads with configurable notes per pad. That will make it perfect. Show more
