    Great but loses edita
I use this app every and I love it when it works. A massive bug makes it lose edits to ABC tunes. I spent hours tweaking a few tunes last night, and this morning they all reverted to the previous version. Store backups of your edits elsewhere. It’s so frustrating. Show more

    Really useful.
Great for tune storage. Easy to access or search for tunes. Easy to edit the ABC notation. Sorting by title, meter, key. The import functions are nice, too, from thesession.org and other places, or from a local web server. All around, a well-done app. Show more

    Needs iCloud sync
App works well and is mature. The ability to search and find tunes on the web is great. But in this day and age I assume that whatever I do on my phone will be the same in my iPad and vice versa. No so with this app. Anything I put in one place has to be manually moved/copies to the other. Show more

    Won't import tunes
I've used Abcnotation a good bit. My band has a book of about 2010s are set up on the web. But I'll look at it with a browser, I threw the ABC code. When I tell this program to import it, it just says they didn't find any ABC files in index.HTML. Show more

    Crashes
This app has crashed repeatedly. Every time I've opened it for more than one minute it closes itself without warning. Not particularly easy to use, hard to add tunes to. How do I get my money back? Show more

    Bought for bagpipe music
Very good app for sheet music, in general. You can add your own music (in .abc format), you can personalize playlists and collections, and it has a MIDI player. It does ok with bagpipe music. Show more

Hit and miss for choral music
The example screenshots don't show it, but lyrics work well. Multi-voice music displays properly, but only the top line plays back reliably, which limits its use as a tool for choral composers / arrangers. Show more

    can
I downloaded the app to my Iphone. It won't open, so I can't use it. When I try to contact the developer, I get the support screen and there is no contact information. Itunes can't help. What a rip off. I wish someone would just contact me about it. Show more

    Great music organizer-LOVE IT
I've not used ABC notation much but understand how it works. This app let's you import whole tunebooks that are available on the web either in total or individually. After you have tunes downloaded & properly in the app, you can sort by title, key, time signature or abc notes. You can then set up tunebooks within the app, say you're making a set list or want all of your waltzes in one place, like a database you'll see them sorted into these tunebooks while not changing the total list of tunes. I have both versions of this app for itouch and iPad and they work slightly differently. So far the itouch/iPhone app is a little easier to figure out, possibly because I've used it more. Looking for a way to add a single new tune in the iPad version & haven't found it. Wish the web developer site had a click here to contact. Great Tool for musicians at any level! Show more

    Does the job nicely
This app does what it says it will. You upload your abc collections using the built in web server. Then you can create tunebooks and manually attach selected tunes. A bit tedious but it works. I use it for dance tunes. On my screen the music is too small. It would be nice if the app optimized the view for you. And really, to play from it would require a bigger screen. But as a memory aide, a nice little program. Show more

    Chord chart addition please?
I'm new to the ABC music notation format, but now that I know about it I certainly see it's power. This cool little $2 app makes it shine. A feature that I'd like to see added is the ability to just show a chord chart for a tune. I'm envisioning the chords displayed in landscape format with nice, large characters. That way I could hand my iPod to a guitarist or a piano player and they'd be able to read the Chord chart right off the device (without squinting). Cool app. Show more

    My new musical companion
This is the app that I've always needed, but didn't know existed. I've known about ABC notation for a while, but it didn't seem that useful, as it meant that you're stuck in front of the computer. ABC on a handheld is *fantastic*. The notation files are tiny, and they render into music nearly instantly. I currently have just shy of 5,000 tunes loaded, and can scroll through them hundreds at a time. Try that with PDFs! The app itself is a great step up from the free version, definitely worth the $2. The import function includes a true web browser and server, so you can import text from the desktop, as well as by clicking links. From the browser, I can get a PDF of a tune and print sheet music, making it really easy to get new tunes to my band. Being able to hear tunes play is great, and the adjustable tempo and voices are perfect. The ability to make playlists is very welcome. The only thing I'd like to see is the ability to add a song to a list from the tune list, instead of from within the create playlist area...I'd like to be able to collect new favorites right as I play them, and not have to back out and go to the playlist screen. But that's minor. Five stars all the way. Show more

    Finally!
The five stars are for having made the app at all. The fact that it actually works and does so smoothly and well is even more amazing! Thank you. Seriously, as a frusrated fiddle player who was dying to have some way to carry around all my tunes, this is a huge relief. The core functionality is all there. You can import any abc file and you can search your list. And the image rendering is fast and smooth. UPDATE: Amazing app and the developer has been incredible about responding to suggestions and adding new features. Since the first version he's added: -editing the abc notation -playing the tunes -multiple tunes lists !!!! (priceless) -built-in import from abc tune repositories such as Norbeck and TheSession.org -and many small improvements to display, search, etc.. One again, thanks so much for all the work you've done! Fantastic app and I use it all the time. This is now the best ABC application in any platform, and the fact that it is mobile makes it ten times better. No more scratching down the names of tunes at a session on a napkin and then loosing it, I just pull out tunebook, look it up in thesession.org and then import it into my "to learn" list, an can immediatley confirm from the music that I have the right tune. Awesome. p.s not that it really matters, but it's a shame that the overall rating of the app is affected by people who clearly just didn't understand what tunebook is FOR and then went and gave it a low rating. All the written reviews are 5 stars as they should be because out of the millions of apps out there, very few bring actual function to the iPhone and are this well done! Cheers and keep up the great work! Show more

Not perfect, but none better on any platform.
This is, simply put, one of the best abc programs available. For any platform, not just the iPhone. The user interface is simple and clear. The tunes sound ... not bad ... in MIDI and the staff and note presentations look good. Editing is simple, and grabbing a tune from the web is about as easy as can be. The only real complaint that I had was that tunes were difficult to organize. Then, this morning, there was a new version... Now, tunes can be added to tunebooks (I'm not clear whether these tunebooks are more like tags, or more like folders with copies of the tunes JH labs web page hasn't caught up with this version yet). You can also search and sort by key, meter or title. In addition you can search by an arbitrary string of abc. There seem to be a few glitches. For example, I'm not sure that the sorting by index works properly. The app still merits five stars because this is about as good as it gets in an all-round abc app. Show more

This is a great little app
Perfect for keeping your tunes handy for a quick refresher during practice or at a session. The player is excellent, with a speed control and a choice of instrument voices. Display rendering is very readable. It would be nice if tunes could be organized into playlists, or sorted for browsing. But even without these features, this is a great little app and I'll be using it a lot Show more

    Great!
File folders in the next update please!

    Love. It.
K, so, this is great. There's so many times out at sessions when someone says, how does that tune go, I can remember the name, but not how it starts! Since I've now got O'Neill's and several other ABC file downloads in the ol' database, now I can play them the first few notes. Or even the whole thing, if I want. Works great and just as I hoped it would. And THANK YOU FOR THE NEW VOICES!!!! :) Show more

    Very useful, thanks!
I'd been thinking about writing an app like this myself, so I appreciate Jerry making this available. Thanks for adding the ability to import my own .abc files. There are a few rough edges on the program that can be worked around, but it definitely gets the job done. Show more
