    Fatal Error
Have been using VinylStudio for years, but whatever changes in the MacOS system (I'm running MacOS MOnterey v. 12.6) won't even let me open this app. I get a box that says: "Fatal Error (sorry)." I'm sorry, too. I might consider upgrading to the Pro version if I felt like I wouldn't be in this same place in a year or two. Show more

    Quit Working
I enjoyed this app, but with recent updates by Apple to the OS, the app quit working. It tries to open, then gives a fatal error. I deleted and reinstalled it, but got the same error message. Please fix... Show more

Finally, my LP conversion has been simplified
For years I've been using a combination of Audacity and ClickRepair on my Mac to digitize my collection of vinyl. The process took hours. First playing the album into Audacity as two large WAV files. Running ClickRepair on the two files. Manually splitting the tracks using Audacity into a folder and assigning ttrack names. Then, burning them to a CD. From the CD, the album was imported into iTunes. VinylStudio does all of that almost automatically. It gives me a simple UI from which I can refine the fade-in and out of tracks. Click repair is built-in. And, best of all, it manages the import into my iTunes library without having to create ancient CDs! Well worth the $25 for the basic version. By the way, my Mac is a late 2015 Intel Core i5 with 16GB DDR3 memory running Monterey. The app was flawless on this old tech. Now, my only request is for an iPadOS version to run on my superfast iPad Pro with the M1 chip. I'd gladly pay another $25 for an iPadOS version. Great app! Thanks. Show more

    Out of this world!
I’m an old DJ with a lot of records. As I sell off my collection I make high quality recordings of each one. I don’t know what I would do without VinylStudio Pro. I recently had to replace the logic board in my old MacBook Pro late 2011 and when I opened Vinyl Studio it had reverted to the free version. I need all the extras the Pro version offers, such as importing more than one sound file at a time, and being able to get album cover tags, etc. So I contacted Paul Sanders and we finally solved the problem The app’s Help menu held the solution with the option “Retore Previous Purchases”. Simple solution, but, well, ignorant me. So I learned two things about Vinyl/Studio that are out “out of this world”, VinylStudio Pro and Paul Strand’s prompt, friendly customer service (rarely found nowadays). Show more

Very unfair review system. You won't post bad reviews
I sent email to the author asking a very key question. They have split the functionality in two. Pushed PRO features to a higher pay model. I asked, are these features (minus the new addional features) something that I loose, that were in the older version, from upgrading. ....CRICKETS.... Since they have had over a week to respond, I must assume what they have done is found a way to create a new version that costs more money for us. Removed features from the lower end model we always had. Then added new features to both. Not honestly a fair scenerio. Legacy users, if my assumptions above is the case, should get a significant discount on an upghrade to the feature rich version, if it is the closest to what we already have. Show more

    No match with Audacity
Very bare and minimal functions! Audacity weas FREE and puts this App to shame. Waiting for Audacity to be upgraded for Catalina.

    Difficult to Use
I have Audacity. It's a much easier program to use. I've been working with VinyalStudio for two weeks and still can't figure out how to copy, save and edit to my satisfaction. I've decided to wait until my Mac Catalina will work with Audcity--even if that's a hundred years! Show more

Simple and well thought out LP digitizer
Once you realize that you need to grant access to the "microphone" in Security & Privacy, the app works as promised. I found it very easy to sample an LP, split the file into tracks, look up the metadata, and put the track files in my library. I've not tried the tick and pop filters or the digital RIAA equalization as I'm using a Parasound USB Phono preamp and digitizer that has excellent RIAA equalization. Your results will be as good as the phono preamp and digitizer used with Vinyl Studio. Parasound, Schiit Audio, and ProJect make high value phono stages that may be used with an external DAC or audio interface. Some are preamp only. Others are preamp-digitizer combo devices. The Parasound has 2 stereo line inputs allowing it to be used to record any signal source from your HiFi preamp. Schiit Audio also makes a separate ADC that may be used with its phono preamp or another of your choice to digitize records. Mike Moffat, Schiit digital audio engineer is one of the best in the business. Don't be put off by the low price. Mike and Schiit are all about good value performance. Vinyl Studio operates any core audio compatible digitizer, saves the sample stream to file, and performs splitting, adds metadata, etc. Show more

    this app is great
After a good bit of time and money spent on other LP ripping software, I was wary of spending another $30 for VinylStudio. But this program is a pleasure to work with. Track splitting is easy, and being able to link discogs info into the metadata is a game changer. Recording straight to flac saves a step, and other features make the effort of digitizing LP’s almost fun. The developers went the extra mile on this five star app. Show more

Software is great but has bugs as well as annoyances
If they would fix a bug and some minor annoyances this would be my favorite recording app; unfortunately it's unusable with my soundcard (Allen + Heath DB4) unless I route the digital information through SoundFlower. That works fine but you’d think the developer would be interested in tracking down a consistently reproducible (and fatal) bug where the software has been clearly isolated as the culprit. Thankfully SoundFlower works well enough though and the software does what it should when SoundFlower is configured. The other problem is the interface is a bit clunky about some things: * When you import album art you have to click the same button a second time to actually apply it to your files -- there should be confirmation that you did; it’s pretty easy to forget this step. * It would be great if it had the ability to auto-apply certain things every time; I normalise every recording and it takes 5 mouseclicks and a dialogue box every time (and again there’s no confirmation indicated that it’s actually applying your normalisation or other effects. * It would be great to save your settings for saving files as well so that everytime I save as mp3 for example it always saves to one folder but when I save as ALAC it saves to a different default folder. I like to keep these in separate folders for various reasons but what that means is I have to save to one, then switch the menu to the other, then go back into the dialogue where you set the destination folder and change it and then answer “yes” to a confirmation dialogue. It would be great if the software could just know that I want ALAC in one folder and mp3 in another. It’s really useful software and it’s a big help for digitizing vinyl. The recording bug is annoying but SoundFlower makes it work fine; I just found it really odd (and potentially disturbing for the longer term viability of the software) that the developer wasn’t even interested in trying to track down the bug. His answer was literally “The software is fine”. Show more

    Essential!
Once your turntable is connected to your Mac, you NEED VinylStudio. I’ve converted about 200 albums, and am still going strong. The interface isn’t the most Mac-like (he has a Windows version as well), but it’s pretty easy to get in and get going. Developer is very responsive (thanks for the 64-bit version!). My favorite things about VS: 1) Non-destructive editing: Record once--try different equalizer settings, obliterate scratches or leave them in for ambiance--your original recording remains unchanged. 2) Add metadata—enter artist & album title, then you can download track names, track durations, track artists, and album covers directly into the program if they are available online. You can also add realease date, genre, label, composer, conductor, comments, and album notes if you have it. (I like to search discogs, add albums in CDpedia first, then I have all the fine-tuned tags ready for VS) 3) Lots of options for recording (I chose aiff) and export file formats (I like mp3, with all that good track info you added!) Great to have easy access to all those beloved albums again. Well worth the price. Heartily recommended! Show more

Great way to digitize your analog!
Priced right, and an easy learning curve. This is THE program to digitize your vinyl, reels, cassettes, etc. Worth every penny and one of my favorite apps ever.

    Outstanding!
This is far and away the most outstanding, easiest way to digitize my 78’s, 33-1/3s, 45’s, and tapes. So easy! I worked for the longest time in Logic Pro X (my music production software) to design a template that would do this very thing, and while it’s possible, I wasted far too much time trying to accomplish the task. What I came up with in Logic Pro X was ultimately not satisfactory, and a quick search of the app store revealed this fantastic app. So easy! I search high and low for my records, and value each one of them. I listen to them so often that it’s better to digitize them so I don’t wear them out and I can listen when away from home. HIGHLY recommended. Show more

    Best software for recording vinyl
I have tried everything since the old version of CD Spin Doctor (OS 10.6.8) This is hands down the best functionality and workflow for recording vinyl and saving AIFFs and mp4s into iTunes. You can get the trackist and art work from the web. I use discogs. The auto track breaks are sometimes slightly off but very easy to adjust quickly. Great software!!! Show more

    Superb Application
I have long been an avid vinyl record collector, but I have been hesitant to digitize my collection. However, Vinyl Studio makes this process a lot easier than I imagined. The app allows you to look up record listings, so that you can easily match your songs (this saves a tremdous amount of time). The app includes many features, including the ability to separate tracks, remove clicks, add album cover art, import pre-recorded soundtracks, and a whole lot more. The best part about this app is that it makes it super easy to add your recordings to iTunes and iCloud. I highly recommend it. Show more

    Great app
Awesome app. Tried to use Audacity first. Vinyl Studio is much easier. Great product. Digitized my Mom’s 78 collection and am now working on mine. Sound quality is great. It will not repair a horrible record but what will? Show more

    Great App!
Transferring music from old vinyl to digital form has never been easier. This app is very simple to use and beats other applications that I’ve tried in the past. The interface (as noted by a previous reviewer) has a few quirks and I’d recommend leaving the “beginners help mode” on to begin with. Once you’ve transferred a few albums and got to grips with the app you’ll find that recording your old vinyl is very quick and easy. Removal of clicks and pops works very well and the hiss and rumble filters seem to do a good job (mind you I’m old and my hearing isn’t as sharp as it used to be). Occasionally the "detect track break" feature misses obvious gaps in the music but manually entering track beginnings / endings is a breeze. I haven’t tried the feature which burns converted music to a CD (does anybody still use CDs these days?) but saving files to my iTunes folder has worked very smoothly. I’ve yet to try converting a 78 record so can’t comment on how well that feature works. All in all a app that has been worth every cent in my opinion. Show more

    Pretty easy to use
I wanted to record all of my vinyl records to my computer. I tried using Garage band but it was just to difficult to get the right settings. I thought about using Quicktimeplayer but it very limited in what it can do. VinylStudio works great. It took about one hour of playing around to learn how to use. It removes clicks and pops and gives plenty of suggestions and tips. I am very satisfied. Show more

    Well designed time saving application
I’d been banging my head with Audacity and GarageBand to transfer vinyl records to AAC format and iTunes. Vinyl Studio has made the exercise feel more like a fun walk down memory lane with my vinyl collection, rather than the tooth-extraction pain of using other tools for a job they were not deisgned to do. The Vinyl Studio UI is a bit old school and not 100% intuitive, but it sure makes the task of recording, identifying tracks, and associating song titles and album art a breeze. Worth every penny.
