Great, could be a bit better.
This app is great for seeing lyrics. Putting it on your desktop was a stroke of genius. It is a lot better than having to keep a lyrics subpane open obscuring track info in macOS Music/iTunes App. I use it pretty much everyday to sing along, badly, with my music. I would love it if the lyrics could reformat based on where a window is, so you could still see them. Also, I’d like 1 display mode where multiple lyric “pages” are displayed side-by-side. Add those 2 features and it would be a 5star app. Show more

    Working great in Catalina
Not sure about the poor reviews. It's doing everything I want to do with the right level of configuration. Also makes it really easy to search for and add lyrics to a song. Show more

A poor substitute for the old Cover Flow but it'll do.
I've had no problems with the app. It finds song lyrics... but it's no substitue for the old Cover Flow which ued to be part of the iTunes app.

    DON'T BUY. DOES NOT WORK!!
The app does not work. They claim "DesktopLyrics is an application that displays the lyrics of the song currently playing in "iTunes"". I was sneaky tempted to trust that product, whereas not even the simplest lyrics of international known hits like Lady Gaga - Shallow or Ariana Grande - sweetener are displayed. They can't expect people to add all lyrics them selfs. Even if lyrics are found, they are cut off after 4 lines with a [...]. This app is worthless and I want my money back. Show more

    Can’t live without it
I’ve been using this daily (i.e. it’s been running in the background without me having to worry about it) for ages. Japanese lyrics? No problem. Hindi lyrics? No problem. Korean lyrics? NP. They all look great. As a second screen I have an old display rotated to portrait orientation to edit documents, and have Desktop Lyrics use that screen for my lyrics and album art. The vertical space is nice, but before this I was using Desktop Lyrics on a single screen and already loved it. It’s just even better with more space. You can customize it up the wazoo to display how you like it, and it just works as it should. Life is good. Show more

    A Waste of Everyone’s Time
What you want is the lyrics of the song displayed, for whatever (karaoke) purposes you have in mind. What you get is this: Artist - Song Name (Year) This track doesn’t contain any lyrics information. Please consult the FAQ (Documentation -> FAQ) to discover how to add lyrics to your music files. You can also use DesktopLyrics built-in ‘Lyrics Search’ functionality to manually add lyrics for this track. I equate this to theft. It’s hard to understand how there are any ratings above 1 Star, which made me consider it, while DJing a house party and being asked for a Karaoke session. Clearly the ratings have been interfered with, or the software magically works for others. Save yourself $4.99. If I wanted to consult documentation to discover how to add lyrics - I would google them instead. If I wanted to use search functionality, I’d do the same. Solution: find the properties of the song in iTunes (three dots - like a Right Click). Click Get Info Click Lyrics Show more

Does what it says on the tin
Displays lyrics that you already have embedded in your iTunes songs on your desktop. I use this in conjunction with GeekTool to have an informative Desktop. Yes, it is a bit annoying that you have to click to start a search, then find a decent result, then copy the lyrics, then go to DesktopLyric's Set Lyrics menu item to actually paste them in... it's not really much different from doing the same with iTunes. But it undoubtedly prevents crazy server load, which I believe is one reason why so many of the auto-add lyrics widgets from the Dashboard days of yore don't work anymore and aren't updated. My one complaint is that there's no rhyme or reason to how long multi-page lyrics are on the screen. Some songs have repetitive choruses; others are just long. Why don't the lyrics turn when it seems like enough time has passed? Is it because various BPMs can turn the page when it shouldn't? I've also had the "manual page turn" arrow fail to work for me, which is annoying. Show more

    Mostly seamless
Great app, I use it daily. Main complaint is that if desktoplyrics is open when I close iTunes, it immediately opens iTunes back up again, which is annoying. Forces me to close the app twice. Leaving four stars because of this. Show more

One of the best $5 presents I’ve ever bought myself
With this app, my computer monitor, which is a 60-inch television, now has what I consider to be a perfect desktop background. In the middle of a black background is the album art of the song currently playing in iTunes. Then on the right are the song’s lyrics, which are headed by the song title, artist, my rating of the song, the album title, and the year of release. It took some tinkering to get it set up just like I wanted (including futzing with it until I discovered that an album art height of 1057 pixels is the exact maximum size to have none of the album art cut off by the gray menu bar on the top of the screen.) Since I’ve been adding lyrics and high-resolution album art to my iTunes for years, the app has a lot to work with. However, I do find it helpful to pair this with the free app Singer Song Reader, which fills in the gaps in my iTunes lyrics by searching for lyrics online and then saving them to my iTunes *only* if that song does not already have lyrics saved. Terrific
This app works very well and does exactly what it says it will do, is very customizable, and has never crashed. I use it all the time, it opens at startup. I wish they would make a version for Vox, which is now my chosen music player on my Mac, but this app still only works with iTunes. Show more

    No Lyrics
I played a variety of songs from different genres… and not one of them had lyrics accessible. Just “flushed” $5!

    Great App
I just wanted to be able to see the lyrics to a song without having to go to iTunes and open the info on the song. The MenuBar Icon works great for this. So when I want to see the lyrics, I just hover the cursor over the icon and bam! there are the lyrics at a glance. Thanks for a clean, bug free app! Show more

This purchase is not eligible for a refund
It’s awful APP! It doesn’t work at all. It needs additional 50 dollars for the function that I had in mind. This is the worst shopping experience I ever had. At last, this purchase is not eligible for a refund. Why? Show more

    Great little Application
Been using this for almost two years. It runs politely in the background. Many options for display positioning, fonts, automatic “page turning” for long songs, can use it on a second monitor. I keep it locked to a black desktop where I have it display the Album artwork as well. One four finger swipe and I’ve got art and lyrics, that don’t cover anything else I want to do. One four fingered swipe back to what I was working on. Don’t understand the one star awful and too complicated review. It’s not complicated at all. The preferences UI isn’t gorgeous, but most UI’s that simply set preferences aren’t. It is certainly usable and the available options are there and easy to find. Once you’ve set it up you may look at the preferences UI once or twice a year. The way it displays lyrics and artwork is gorgeous and very adaptable to personal taste. Show more
