    hard to use
it's basically a pdf reader. the table of contents is not click able, so when you want the readings that are start with page number 1000, there's no way to skip right to that section. wish there was. way to bookmark pages. also you can only search by hymns and not page number. Show more

    Worst app for music
If you need page turns, and expect an intuitive response on your iPad, this app fails! I had disastrous experiences leading Masses using this platform. GIA, please match the quality of your online music offerings for modern day musicians with the resources provided by your competitor! Show more

    Love this app
I use it every Sunday. Once you get used to it, very user friendly. It is a GIA Publications app and therefore geared to their music, but entire GIA hymnals can be downloaded, searched, music edited, annotated. Plus access to Dropbox, so imported music can also be added, annotated, etc., in .pdf format. The only issue is with the sensitivity of down arrow to next page which tends to move you over to next hymn in your set list instead of to next page of current song. But I’m told the next version will have a correction for this. I would love to be able to download and search digital copies of hymnals from OCP, for example, but not really fair for a mostly proprietary app. Unless GIA wants to ultimately transform this app into a stand-alone. IMHO, I think Hymnals App has the perfect structure to work in that capacity for choir singers everywhere. I tried ForScore but it is too steep a learning curve for my purposes to be used exclusively instead of this app. I’ve come to depend on this app and am excited every time a new version is released! Nonfunctional
Purchased several hymnal accompaniment editions through the app to use while playing services, but for the last 6 months or so it crashes immediately upon opening. It’s totally nonfunctional- can’t trust it to be reliable even for rehearsal, much less a Sunday service or a wedding or funeral. Very very disappointed. Show more

Basically a pdf viewer little to no functionality
Search function is by title only, not by composer or Gia pub # Navigation while playing an instrument is all but impossible No ability to print from the app. Example because you can’t scroll back and forth while playing Service list - to re order song you have to delete the whole list and re-enter exactly as will be played, Show more

I like the app, but it needs a few tweaks
I can’t figure out how to erase old notes. I tried to find someone to help me with this at the GIA booth during NPM, but no one there new much about the app. Also, the page turns are difficult after an update that was done over a year ago. You used to be able to tough anywhere on the right side to go to the next page of the song, now you have to press the arrow at the bottom, which is awkward when on a music stand or while holding it. Please consider add a “single song mode”
——————- 5/22/2021 Also, please consider allow us to search by composers or lyricists. This could be really useful. ——————- 8/22/2020 I think one suggestion to solve the page-flipping difficulty for pianist in the keyboard edition is to add a "single song mode" feature where tapping anywhere on the left or right side of the page jumps directly to the next page instead of the next song, when it arrives at the last page, flipping left automatically goes to the first page. Since it is tough to press the arrow button accurately without accidentally flipping to the next song while playing and conducting the choir, I think this "single song mode" feature could make the keyboard edition much more user friendly. Otherwise I would give it a 5 stars. On top of this feature, I would suggest allow searching the content of the lyrics as well. I believe we can only search for a keyword in the title of the song instead of from the lyrics. Show more

    Consult with a Musician
I really want to like this app. I am the Director of Music/Organist & Director of Liturgy at a large parish. I purchase a lot of music and music resources from GIA, and purchased the Accompaniment Editions of Ritual Song 2 and the Guimont Lectionary Psalms. As has been stated in other reviews-page turns are AWFUL. I, like most organists and pianists, hate page turns. This takes that stress to a much higher level. The editions are not cheap, and the user interface is horrid (i.e. putting together a setlist, searching for songs, a lack of a “performance mode,” etc. It would be better if you could use it in conjunction with an app like ForScore, but that’s impossible. The OCP Hymnal app blows this app out of the water, and it boggles my mind that GIA Publications haven’t even tried to correct this app in the > year I have had this app. I have been asked by several musicians and choir members about a digital app for Gather, RitualSong, etc, but I tell them just what I’ve said here. Please, for those of us that are GIA customers, do something to fix this. Show more

    Not practical for musicians, accompanists
UPDATE 2/14/2021 - App now crashes whenever I try to open a purchased hymnal. Loss of money. Would give ZERO stars. As a pianist and choir director, I recently have made the transition to paperless — using my iPad for all music and leaving behind the world of music binderse! Unfortunately, I find this app not practical for keyboard accompanists. For multi-page scores, the scrolling feature is frustrating and is less intuitive than Forscore, which I have found works much better. Just simple searching for a score is also frustrating in the GIA app...in addition, there’s no way to view two pages at once. I recommend that GIA offer the option to purchase just the accompaniment book as PDF (without needing this app) that can be imported into Forscore (or similar apps), matching what is available from OCP. My workaround is to take a screen shot of the score from the GIA app, then convert it to a PDF and import into Forscore. If I had to do it over, I’d not purchase the app and hymnal and, instead, purchase the paper sheets, converting the sheets to digital and then importing into Forscore. Show more

My "Go To" for being a prepared choir member!!
This has been my go to app for Sunday ever since it was released. I feel like my attention to Mass has been greatly improved since I'm not looking for our next hymn to sing. I would like to see the hymns available for direct purchase to cut out having to Dropbox it and to be able to get rid of the GIA requirement to buy 5 copies of pdfs when all I need is one copy. Additionally, the Cry Out Solemnities should be available for hymnal purchase. Please fix the Search function so you don’t have to re-enter the search if you were not successful the first time. Also the search function needs to be more forgiving. Leave out a comma and your search will not come up with the desired song. I'd love the app to become the iTunes of church music. Give me one place to buy and you'd have my money (and appreciation!). Thx!! Show more

    Unreliable page turning
Better to scan PDFs into ForScore. Page turning is fickle and comparatively slow to respond - unreliable in performance. Two-page mode unavailable. GIA would do well to partner with ForScore AND/or release a PDF. Show more

    Mark up is terrible
The “edit” mode for marking the music is terrible. Is there any way to fix this. It is very important to be able to mark-up the music. This app is useless without this capability. Show more

    Page turning a nightmare
Agreed with other reviews - page turning on this app is a nightmare. Any keyboardist is used to flipping from one page to another using a flipping stroke. Having to tap the arrow to slide down to the next page is very awkward and cumbersome. Ito rare to flip to the next piece after playing one (with the exception of mass settings). It would be much better if flipping pages moved within a piece and the arrow moved to the next piece. Show more

Need to be able to write notes!
Ever since the last IOS update, the note-writing function does not work. This is a very important function! Please fix! Also, I agree with other reviews that page-turning has become a nightmare since your last product update. Either the page doesn’t turn or I end up at a different song entirely - often not even the next songs but several songs ahead or back. With COVID restrictions, I am often the only musician or singer, and I can’t keep the music going when my music suddenly jumps unexpectedly to something else Show more

    Frustrating!!
If there was a lower rating I’d give it. I can’t use the Gather 3 hymns and I can’t delete books from my library. I can’t believe I spent money on this app! It seems GIA is trying to screw the church musicians over with this app. Never again! Show more

    Agreed
I cannot agree more with the first review that after the previous update page turning has become a nightmare. It makes me nervous to use the arrow on the page because more than half the time it turns to the next song, very unnerving during Mass. Show more

I use it because I have to
The app updates have made it immensely more difficult to turn pages. I tap and tap and it does not always turn. And sometimes, it turns to the next song entirely. I struggle to use the app, and hope that the touch ability will improve (and maybe even be customizable someday?). Show more
