    Hall of fame IOS synth
This remains a great app (as does, in its more-complicated way, Attack, which gets abuse from people who don’t bother to learn it) for people who like to program their own patches. The first-rate wavetable oscillators are easily tweakable and can be rewritten. Importing audio to tables can be an adventure, but that too can be done to good effect. Images can be converted to wave shapes. A text-to-table feature exists and can give interesting, if German-accented, results. Spectrum controls and modulation extend the sound palette still further, and the two oscillator outs also have have a distinct multiplied output. Tying the wavetables together with a stereo-spreadable analogue-modeled oscillator with PWM and a separate ring mod to the first wavetable. The filter section offers the standard choices, but with high-quality sound and atypical flexibility in routing, tuning, driving/distorting, and modulating, with three lovely, syncable, speed-adjustable looping envelopes. Two audio-capable LFOs, ten open mod-matrix slots, along with the many mod possibilities in the main sound-engine sections, and a lot of other quality-of-sound-sculpting features keep the synth fresh. There are plenty of handy, high-quality effects as well. We could do with an arpeggiator that does faster and, especially, slower tempo divisions, though the present functions do what they do very well. Sequencing would be great, but there is no great hardship in hooking up one of the bazillions of MIDI sequencers in the App Store - unless you want to use the internal recorder (yes, there’s one of those too - it has four tracks and it works well when inspiration cannot wait for a DAW). The on-screen keyboard remains as good as it gets on this platform. This is a huge benefit for actual mobile use. Why more developers fail to put this kind of effort into the OSK - on a mobile OS - remains a mystery to me. So, does this sound “dated” or not worth using? Do the presets need updating for current taste? Maybe, but why use such a synth as a preset player? Whether you are making the preset sounds your own or you are building your own presets from the tables on up, the presets are at most starting points. Yes, the synth could use an update to make use of new standards revisions. That is no reason to avoid this instrument. For all that lack of updating, it remains not only easy to use, but it still works to create beautiful sounds. What’s remarkable is how well this was done from the start. All these years later, it remains among the few best synthesizers for Apple’s mobile devices. Show more

    Eats up battery when off
Try using this app and then close it and watch how fast your battery drains. Check your battery in settings. Nave will be at the top of the list consuming 80-90% of your battery. This has been going on for years and Waldorf doesn’t care. That’s why they get a 1 star from me. Show more

    Still no update
Too bad this hasn’t at least been made AU by now. Nice synth but AU’s are easier to work with.

    Dated
Should stay at the sale price and would love to at least see some updates and new patches. Pros: Beautiful interface (standalone), fully featured as a standalone synth with recorder. Very precise and tunable sound. Cons: Hasn’t been updated in years, No auv3, Most patches rely heavily on internal fx, eq, and compressor. Nice list of patch designers but the sounds are aging. Patch navigation system should have a way to favorite presets andvisualize all banks by category. No MPE. Show more

    Nice but presets don’t stick
Really like the sounds but the presets don’t stick. They always reset back to 5th Chord by Richard Devine. Thus, unusable.

    Classic. Masterpiece. Shining (5) stars.
Nave really is a masterpiece! Seven-plus years later, even without an AUv3 update, and it still remains one of the most impressive synths of any form, hardware of software, tablet, Mac, or pc. Nave has been, and remains, in my top three synths in regards to features, fun, and musicality. Through the years I have purchased nearly all of the most popular synths, groove machines, and mobile daws, and without fail, I keep coming back to Nave. Nasty basses ☑️ Clean deep basses ☑️ Synapse tingling leads☑️ Crystalline chimes☑️ The most mind boggling, ear-tickling, chest pounding, face-melting sonic delights☑️☑️☑️ The team at Waldorf really created something truly special and timeless with Nave. To boot, the great sound designers they selected to showcase what Nave can do are brilliant. So whether you are a sound designer, a knob twister, or a preset junkie, there is something for every synth lover here. Now that some of the good is out of the way, for the bad. The only negative comment that I can personally make of Nave is that, although timeless in sound and function, it does lack the ability to take full advantage of the more recent advances in iOS, namely AUv3. This limitation doesn’t take away from Nave being a five star synth, but having the ability to run multiple instances of it in something like AUM, along with the available AUv3 sequencers, would place it in a class of its own, and then one above that. So, if you are on the fence, and you can live without the need for multiple instances, you cannot go wrong. Total insta-buy...really. To Waldorf’s Nave team, Thank you for the years of entertainment, relaxation, and happy accidents you have blessed me with. I really cannot thank you enough. Sorry it took me so long to write your well deserved review. And please, if you ever do decide to update with AUv3, call it “Nave 2” or something catchy, and I think a great many of us would be happy to fork over the cash. I know that I would. Nave Fan. Incredible Synth, please add AuV3!
Absolutely love this synth. Insane sounds and presets and really easy to design your own. Only thing I’m missing is AuV3

    I’m begging Waldorf.....
AUv3. This is still one the best iOS synths hands down. The interface is so nice. It has all the classic Waldorf sounds I’ve grown to love over the years. It’s not missing anything synthwise. And yes, you can charge me for an update that includes AUv3. No complaints. Please Waldorf, AUv3! Signed, Longtime Waldorf Fanboy. Show more

Amazing wavetable synth, but eats battery and has a memory leak
Amazing sounds, great interface and arpeggiator. Unfortunately, still no AU plugin version, but I can live with that for now. The biggest issue is that it eats battery like a hog and if you forget to kill the app explicitly AND reboot your device, you’ll find your iPad out of battery within a few hours, even if it’s not being used / the screen is off. This is probably due to background audio, but it’s definitely annoying and should be fixed. I see the developer has responded with the suggestion of disabling background audio. This still doesn’t explain why the battery goes dead after force-killing the app. There are plenty of other iOS apps with this “background audio” option which don’t continue eating battery after you force close them... and they don’t require you to reboot your iPad. I don’t want to turn this into an advertisement for other apps, but please: fix this properly. Show more

    Doesn’t work after iPadOS update
App simply crashes now. I know it hasn’t been updated in quite some time but hopefully this can be addressed.

    Desert island app
If you only buy one iOS synth, buy this one. Easily my favorite wavetable synth and is just as good as most hardware you find. Very underrated and not much info out there but it inspires me every time I use it. Worth every penny. Show more

Nave Destroys all synths. You will not find anything Close to it.At 1st Use it has so many parameters your brain falls out. Go at it for an hour and it is beyond belief. The app allows you to take the sound of any thing you play put a mix of bit crushing , reverb, flanger, delay, sample and hold Lfo, EQ it, compress it,add in A k+strong wave, and Formant wave setup the wave, spectrum for 2 oscillators and waves and finally add an U-ber wave to it,thats your sound. Now you get your screen shot camera out and max the screen size That is the Visual of your Sound. Then adjust the the picture by strip, flow, crossline, and the color, size of peaks, and orient by touch and you will be amazed at what your Sound looks like, take a screen shot and start stacking. If you showed me this I would pay a $100 for it Wow! Audiobus update is cool
10/10. Please add AUv3 capabilities, along with Attack Drums. That would be great!

    Add Basic Sequencer ?
Update please for ios11. iPad Pro and gettting cracking noises on sustained chords —— I agree with most positive reviews, it's great. HOWEVER, can we please add at least a basic sequencer for recording. I have to play entire tracks in real time all the way through and if one measure is off timing, I have to re-record over ...and over. Please add a sequencer with quantization.... Please. ...And soon, I have work to do. Professional tools need profession features. Thank you Running on an updated iPad Pro, using professionally Show more

Great creative environment. Good work on this.

    The magic carpet synth
If this thing was packed in a metal box with knobs, you would pay BANK for something as special as Nave. Wonderful sounding, bursting with creative potential. There's a lot to take in but after a few hours you will be creating crazy, lush, chaotic, brutal, hypnotic works of art. There are some stability bugs I've noticed using my 3rd gen iPad on iOS 7.0 so save often. Pulling up menu items can seem unresponsive at times. Bugs I'm sure will be resolved in future updates. This synth sits right up there with Animoog, Thor, and Magellan. Thank you Waldorf!!!! Update 2016- still blows me away that this app completely destroys hardware synths. Amazing. Keep up the good work Waldorf! Show more

    Beautiful sounds needs AU
It sounds fabulous, I would like to multi-instance it. AU support would accomplish this
