    Exactly what I wanted
This is exactly what I wanted for my personal devotion at a great price. I wonder if it might be worth adding an option to buy a full midi file from inside the app? Thanks for the hard work. Show more

    Good, but needs work.
I like this because I am always needing a hymnal to plan on the go. But, as an organist, this is not music performer friendly. There needs to be a way to incorporate two page hymns for playing. Other than that,I love this. I look forward to using it for Sunday services! Show more

One verse per page doesn’t work in update - UPDATED
The latest update to the app still shows the option to view one verse per page, but the button is grayed out and can not be turned on. Specifically, I was trying with FlexScore Projection (melody) but I tried it with other views as well and it does not work with any of them. UPDATE: The rollout of the updated app was really rough, but they have been very attentive to fixing all the problems. I appreciate them addressing all the issues. Show more

    Do not purchase this app
I do not even give it one star. No longer able to listen to the tunes or even see the hymns since the last update. Even public domain hymns are said to be copyrighted. Was once an invaluable tool, now a waste of money spent. Says needs network connection although connected to internet. There is not a place to “connect” on the app to clear this message. So very disappointed in what was once a great app for helping learn new hymns. Show more

Suddenly the hymnal is not opening correctly
After the last update on November 2, 2020, suddenly the hymnal is no longer working! All I see is just a blank search box on the purple field. It appears that somehow Hynnary.org has lost my subscription. This is really a big problem. Show more

    Updated Review
Several items that were poorly conceived in the last major update were fixed — for instance not being able to view one verse at a time. The intuitiveness of the app is still an issue. Opening every time to the search screen is tiresome. I wish it opened to my last opened page, as it previously did. They also brought back the 10-key input for hymn numbers—why it was taken away is a wonder. Thank you to the developers who responded quickly to fix the the new fixes. I’m still not entirely clear on why the major update was necessary. In any case, the app is once again useful for quickly pick hymns (and hear the tunes for those of us less musically educated pastors). Show more

    Welcome, and unwelcome changes
I have used this app every week I have led worship as a Presbyterian pastor. Overall, it’s been positive and very useful. I’m glad they have modernized the app with this latest update. It definitely needed it. Double tap for full screen is good. App feels more responsive overall. but who decided to hide often used features of the app (like search and set list) behind a menu button, requiring one additional tap to access when there is so much space along the top? That’s a crazy decision that favors useless space over function. I find moving between editions, with features like transposition and being able to choose verses (which are great), to be significantly less friendly as apparently choosing a smaller fonts and more restricted space was chosen over larger and more expansive. I find this to be true for all the buttons and menus. I hope that these get fixed or adjusted in updates. Show more

    Worthless for accompaniment
Many hymns are spread across two pages. With no way to view both pages at the same time, this app is worthless. Why would you even sell the Accompaniment edition when it can’t be used for accompaniment. Mind boggling. Show more

    Cheated after purchase
I bought the pew edition and was disappointed, since it was nothing like the actual hymnal. Foolishly, I bought the accompanist edition, hoping for an improvement. It worked for a few months. I now have added, deleted and reloaded the app repeatedly and for months have only been able to access the public domain hymns. This publisher should be ashamed of this rip off. Show more

    Doesn’t Work Anymore - Fixed
On or around 4/25/2020 the app stopped working, the problem was most likely related to a server crash. I had trouble getting connected with support, but I finally got through to someone after I posted on the developers forum. The problem is now resolved and I am happy again. I have used this app since it was launched. It is quick to navigate, the text is much easier to read than in the physical version, especially since the iPad can compensate for poor lighting in church, and provides useful suggestions for worship planners connected to the lectionary readings. All in all a great app that I am very happy is working again. Show more

    Revision recommendation
I’m an organist at a church and wanted to hear the hymns before deciding which ones to use. The problem is, if the hymn begins with a refrain, such as hymn 473, you don’t get to hear the verse. Show more

    Wonderful For Choir
I bought the full version of this so that I don’t have to carry my hymnal up to the choir loft on Sundays. It’s a good app - I can save the hymns for Sunday and scroll from one to another. Highly recommend. Show more

Had It, Deleted It, Had It Again, Deleted It Again
I thought a couple years might have made this more usable, but either this is a fairly useless app or I’m just on the same wavelength as the developer. Trying to find hymns on a scripture, I got a list but was not able to actually look at the music. When I got the music another way, I couldn’t go back to my list again. Frustrating to use and not intuitive at all. Show more

Unable to access after reinstalling twice
Am PC(USA) member and this is my hymnal. Purchased app near initial release date, probably in 2013 when hymnal was published. Today I could only access my playlist; songs not on playlist resulted in “cannot open page.” I deleted and reinstalled the app twice. Now my playlist is gone, too, and I’m being prompted to purchase app again. $19.00 is a lot of money for an app that doesn’t work. Please rectify this immediately. Restore my access! Show more

    Amazing resource
I’m a Cumberland Presbyterian pastor and this is one of my favorite ministry resources. I love being able to have this resource with me wherever I go. Being able to hear audio clips is great for choosing hymns, especially ones that I’m unfamiliar with, and also means I can use it in my own prayer time. Being able to search by song title, topic, season, scripture text or by lectionary makes looking for appropriate songs really easy. The only downsides are that occasionally the app does crash (usually if I’ve been really skipping everywhere), and the audio is often limited to 30 seconds due to licensing restrictions. Otherwise, I’d give this baby a whopping 5 stars. Show more

    Doesn’t serve purpose
I’m an organist who decided to purchase this hymnal so that I wouldn’t have to fuss with the two separate accompaniment books and could have it all in one place. However, this is not nearly as easy to use as other book or music reading apps. This has been a difficult hymnal to use in general because there are so many two-page accompaniments, and like in other apps such as iBooks or ForScore, I expect to see two pages at once when I shift to landscape orientation. That’s not the case in this app. Additionally, I would like for it to turn pages for those two-page hymns like any other book, but instead, it turns to the next hymn when I tap on the side of the page (like in every other app) and not to the next page of the current hymn. It’s frustrating and not intuitive. For performing musicians who have limited time, apps with screens representing pages in a book should act like the other major apps do, not differently. Finally, you can’t always see the entire page of a given hymn without scrolling. All of these are issues I had hoped would be solved by purchasing this app. In other news, I LOVE the fact that I can quickly type in a hymn number to find it. Best feature. I decided to give it a few weeks before I made this review, and since then I have, and I wish I hadn’t spent so much money on it now. Show more

    Why pay twice?
What in the world has happened? I once had access to a fairly awesome app but now its asking me to pay again. I purchased this app several years ago and did not understand it to have a time limit subscription. Please let me know what needs to be done to access the it for worship planning purposes. I’ve tried deleting the app and downloading it again from the App Store to know avail. Show more

    What?
I purchased this app and several hymns still do not appear - what is going on

There seems to be no support
I've used this app for some time. I bought a new iPad and it will not download unless I buy the app again. My two inquiries to support have gone unanswered. I'm not paying another $20!! Show more

    Good but could be better
As another reviewer stated, having music for the entire song would be helpful, especially when learning a new song. For me, though, the most beneficial upgrade would be the ability to send the lyrics to our projection laptop (using EasyWorship) instead of having to type everything in for new songs. Otherwise, this is very helpful to me. Show more
