The file system function set (such as it is) is new and this app is not. It does not work with the newer file functions. You can open recording .wav files in other apps. No need for catastrophizing reviews - the app not only works, it is one of the few best synthesizer apps in the store. Eventually one hopes for a minor file-system-storage-compatibility update from the developer. Meantime, work like an old timer and enjoy a great synth. Show more

A finest example of truly versatile MASSIVE synth that’s intuitively designed not to feel like it’s overwhelming or all over the place! It’s a semi-modular synth, meaning there are fixed number of modules that you can hook up in any way. Once you start experimenting with it, the range of sounds is very wide, and the sound quality is great even without fx applied (the only way to test a synth is with fx Off). As far as semi-modular synths go, Tera is one of the most straightforward ones I’ve ever seen. It’s got a sliding UI that you basically slide from left to right to get to various units. But this is done nicely (not like in Reason iOS), and there’s accelerated scrolling so you can quickly get from one side to the other. Now when I say it’s easy to use, I mean making it do exactly what you want to do quickly. There are a LOT of variation/complexity in what can be done in terms of chaining, filter types, sound sources... can’t even list them all. I can list modulation, you get 4 LFOs, 4 ADSRs, 4 MENV (this is like envelope but you can daw path and more stuff, really cool!) With so much going on, the app runs very efficiently, which is very important on iOS because latest iPads have very limited resources when compared with even much older laptops. Overview - UI is simple/quick to use. Each of those knobs you see, controls amount of whatever it says, the slider underneath controls modulation intensity of this item (up - normal, down opposite), and the box underneath is a modulation source (LFO, env, etc..) Some can have more than one of these. If you scroll to the very right, you’ll see Amplifier, this is where you start. You see 2 input sources with a blend knob on it. For example you can put Filter-1 here. Then scroll to Filter-1 section, which also has an Input box, and you can put OSC-1 there that’s it - you got sound. Or you could put another filter there, a mixer, or something else, but this is basically how you chain things. UI might appear a bit boring looking, like a schematic, but controls are all well placed so it’s super quick to use, and that’s a whole lot more important than flashy colors with limited sound capabilities. There are 2 screens, Synth and Modulation, that control the synth directly (there are also Arp and FX screens). When you tap on modulation box in the Synth screen you get a popup of the thing (LFO, ENV, etc) so you can adjust it directly without going into MOD screen (though you get even more options through MOD) Presets - are alphabetically ordered so you don’t need to mess around with silly slots that have to be rearranged by hand. You have 8 categories (folders) and all are accessible to put your own presets there. There’s one dedicated user folder too, but you can’t create your own folders. Instead of using the user folder I just put stuff into existing ones like Leads, Bass, etc, just a tip for you though - make sure to name all your presets starting with “!” so that alphabetically they’ll show up first. I use the User folder for work-in-progress presets, and finished ones into categories. You can export/backup individual presets, but not the whole folders. Hopefully developer could implement this function as I’ve made a bunch of really crazy presets already, would be nice to back them up all at once. In summary- Absolutely must have musical instrument. Produces Wide range of *usable* melodic content, and you can also make it scream and make noise and all kinds of weird evolving sounds, heavy bass, and percussive sounds too. Personally, I tend to use it most for more melodic leads. Can’t believe I only just got it! Instantly became part of my top favs group along with LayR, SynthMaster One, Zeeon, Factory and Kauldron. (All of which I highly and equally recommend) Two requests for the developers: A small shortcut-tab on the Synth screen to quickly jump to [OSC 1], [Filter 1], etc would make the workflow even quicker. Oh, and mass-export the presets for backup purposes. My iPad is 512gb, so I prefer backing things up selectively, and with so many cool presets I’ve made so far, it would be very hard to back them all up one by one. Show more

After making several recordings, discovered they do NOT appear in the iTunes file sharing window. They can NOT be pasted into other applications, do not export into Audioshare or Audio paste, cannot be shared via Airdrop (says “failed”) cannot be saved in Dropbox (says “error”), and cannot be mailed (crashes the program). Basically, any recordings made within the app are unusable. Show more

I’ve just spent a few minutes creating my first patch and, already, I’m in awe of the balance between depth and simplicity in this modular synth. The ease with which one may modulate nearly everything with almost anything is breathtaking, and the waveform options are great. Of course, the mind can’t help but wonder what would happen if all the effects parameters were modulatable, but with 3 oscillators, 4 LFOs, 4 insane envelopes, and a sequencer, I feel confident that I’ll have plenty to explore. Next, I’ll have to test how in runs in AUM and AB3. Show more

I was excited to see the AU3 support added, but I haven’t been able to get it to work using AUM on iOS11. In the update description you list iOS10 required. Does this mean exactly iOS10 or “at minimum” iOS10. I don’t want to downgrade. Show more

The variety of sounds this synth can produce and the quality of the sound it produces are certainly worthy of much praise. Now with AUv3 it will get even more use than before. Tera is a winner. Show more

Great synth, easily one of my favs, but in all honesty.... I'd be a lot more excited update wise if this became an audio unit. I use addictive pro more than this now because it's an audio unit and I can use it directly inside of Beatmaker 3, Cubasis and Auria pro. Any update that doesn't support audio unit is kinda...meh. The best all-around iPad synthesizer app available - hands down - is Korg's iM1. Now: I absolutely love iM1, but I don't use it. I play with it, sure! Sounds killer, and it's a blast! What I actually use is Tera - a port of a pc soft that's been around for a while, adapted to the iPad's environment. In a nutshell: Tera is an extraordinarily flexible, extremely powerful polyphonic synthesizer app - easily capable of taking the user/listener into deep sonic waters - the trade-off being that a rich synth tool like Tera requires time, patience, and perseverance to master, especially if you're an inexperienced software synthesizer user. Not that I'm trying to discourage anyone from buying Tera - Tera does come with plenty of great sounds right out of the box, but it's true capabilities - that make it sparkle like a diamond - come from when the user digs into Tera deep, and creates his or her own sounds. The limitations that the prospective Tera user should be aware of are the polyphony (8 notes) and the UI (Tera is super rich/super deep - so much so, that the Dev had to make compromises in regards to how to manage all of it with the iPad's limited screen real estate) July 2016 Update: I've continued to push Tera hard, and I'm happy to say that it continues to deliver above and beyond what is expected. Brilliant! December 2016: There are some absolutely superb software synth apps here in iOS land - as an example: Korg continues to surprise us all with such gifts as a virtual Wavestation and Arp Odyssey - but in spite of all of it, Tera for me is still my go-to synth app - by a wide margin. Tera remains untouchable. July 2017: Still my favorite synthesizer app - It continues to sound insanely rich amongst a crowded field. It is the only non game app I've ever purchased and I bought because of all the great reviews. It's a wow! I'm stunned. You can tweak sounds to your liking and store them. You can record them as a song! Unreal. Buy it. You won't care about the price. Show more

I rarely take the time to write reviews, but feel compelled to give praise where it is due. With that said, I need to say that I have a problem; I'm addicted to iPad music apps. I've downloaded nearly every one. I rank this one at the top of my collection. It's recreation of some of the early analog synth sounds is amazing. Having owned the Roland Alpha Juno 2, JX-8P, MT32, JV-880, currently, JD-800, and JV-1080, I would say that they have nailed it. After seeing that in writing, I think my problem is bigger than just apps. The interface is a decent effort, but could use a little more work. For instance, being able to type the tempo, instead of tapping or using the virtual knob would be helpful. I could be wrong, but I haven't yet figured out how to sync the tempo with the DAW, or the preset, but that could be user error. The dice don't seem to creat a random patch, but again, could be user error. Overall, I really like what I'm seeing after only a few days of use. Show more

While many ios synths focus on recreating the past Tera Synth moves forward by adding thoroughly modern functions that work effortlessly with the Ipad’s touch interface. Draw wave forms, Modulators and use the great built in step sequencer / arpeggiator to patch together your dream synth. The support is amazing to. I had a midi issue while recording into Ableton and I emailed the developer who responded almost immediately with a thorough reply that solved my problem, the issue was my mistake nothing wrong with the synth but they still took the time to figure out what I was doing wrong in Ableton. Totally 100% worth 5 times as much. Show more

This synthesizer is versatile, efficient and unlike some other powerful IOS synths, Tera Synth sounds really good. It can be harsh when wanted but also can have a really unique warmth that's is very effective. Thanks Virsyn. Show more

I write as a 30+ year veteran user of modular synthesizers of every kind. First up, Virsyn has accomplished something important here. The ability to create an analog-style, modular structure while retaining the kind of playability and polyphony is one of the things that software synths do well, and hardware instruments do not, if they do it at all. Terasynth is not the first software instrument to accomplish this, but it is one of the very best. Secondly, it's modular functionality and it's clean and easily interpreted interface is not common at all. Virsyn has done this better than anyone. The interface is somewhat reminiscent of the Arp 2600, but it is FAR more powerful. The modularity is pretty deep allowing fairly complex signal chains among both audio and control signals. Three VCOs, a HIGHLY versatile set of filters, a very powerful Waveshaper and a full set of Effects round out the audio signal sources and processors. Four voltage controlled Envelope Generators plus four very capable, multi-stage Envelope Generators, 4 Voltage Controlled LFOs and Virsyn's highly capable Arpegiator provide lots of control and modulation sources - though true modular fanatics will always want more. This all combines to produce a very rich synthesis environment. Modulators can modulate other modulators, some control modules can be plugged into the audio stream and some audio signals can be used to modulate others. This is great stuff! No doubt about it. But it is not as flexible as a true, hardware modular instrument. There certainly are some limitations. Nevertheless, as software instruments go, Terasynth goes at least as deep as any other iPad-based synthesizer in this regard other than, perhaps Jusuto or Audulous. But neither of those are anywhere as near as accessible and playable. At minimum, Terasynth is certainly far deeper than the vast majority of all the other software instruments available on the iPad. Finally, this first release, like most others, is a bit flawed. The sound quality is excellent and the instrument is highly versatile, very easy to understand and use (and did I mention ...this baby is deep?) Nevertheless, some of the functionality is not as stable and predictable as it should be. when patches become complex enough, with nested controllers or looped control signals, unpredictable results occur. Also, some modules do not perform in accordance with what modular aficionados might expect them to. For example, all four of the VC LFOs have a Sample & Hold output. That's great. But since there is no signal input to the Sample & Hold, we assume this to be sampling from white noise to produce a stepped random output. That is the normal practice among most other modular and many non-modular synthesizers (both hardware and software- based). This is not the case with Terasynth. At higher sample rates it is very obvious that source of the S/H module is a sine or triangle wave and thus it creates repeating patterns instead of random ones. The LFOs do have a separate "Random" output, but it produces a slewed (or sloped) random output (sliding from note to note, rather than jumping among notes) and at very slow rates, it is obviously NOT random but is derived from a sine or triangle wave and produces only a slow moving periodic waveform. Getting true, stepped random patterns appears to be impossible. Despite these flaws (and to be fair, most users will hardly ever go very deep into this intrument's capabilities), Terasynth is an excellent product. The flaws should be easily corrected in future releases. Wish list: Aside from fixing the little problems described above, 1. Expanded modularity - allow EVERYTHING to connect to EVERYTHING else. 2. Allow the user to chose the source of the S&H "module" in the LFOs. 3. The effects have their own built in modulators. That's good. But exploit the modular framework to allow us to also patch in OTHER controllers like the LFOs or the excellent MultiEnvelope modules, for example. 4. I know this one is nearly impossible but ...how about in addition to modularity and polyphony, add multi-timbral capability - the ability to produce more than one sound at a time, as you can with a true modular instrument. Other iPad software modulars do this successfully. I bet the obviously skilled programmers at Virsyn can crack this problem too. Do these things and perhaps add a few more modulators and maybe some logic modules (AND/OR gates, switches, etc.) and Terasynth could easily become the single best synthesizer available on the iPad. Three days with this synth and it is far and away my favorite (I've bought or used every prominent one out there). I'm a guitar player who mostly uses keys for rhythm tracks/chords and atmosphere/texture, and I'm not a major tech-head, so I usually find a preset approaching the sound I want and do minor tweaking. This hits the spot perfectly, and though I've yet to explore the depth, it is there. Definitely wouldn't have regretted paying the full $20 price. The UI and design is a great bonus, and I've yet to uncover any glitches or audio problems on iPad Air 1. Show more

The same people who gave us so many powerful hits, just keep on giving us these amazing synth tools!wow! I'm speechless !That said ...please make sure that in the next update ,the ENTIRE state of the synth is saved within each user defined patch.too much global stuff for things like an arpeggio should be a part of the programs as saved to make it easier to use live. One of my favorite synths so far. The routing is a bit weird to me. I'm not able to create specific sounds I'm going for, but that is fault on my part. There is the manual, but I wish there were more tutorials or tips, although I'm sure it's not a complex synth to fully understand. However, tera synth comes with hundreds of presets, and can always roll the dice for new sounds which is great and user friendly. This synth sounds amazing and totally recommend getting it. I would like to see: -create custom scales. -better workflow for saved patches. -"graphical output level meter" would be cool. Show more

The physical modeling simulation puts this over the top as the most powerful synth available on iOS to date. The UI is minimalist, devoting all the resources to sound—and it sounds like a monster. You won't regret it. Show more

I've only messed with it ten minutes but so far there is no preset I don't like. The sound quality is also excellent. It appears extremely diverse and I am confident that once I figure out how to program it, the sound possibilities will be endless. It is worth the money in case you are hesitating. Edit: After fiddling with it, I realized that it is easy and straight forward to edit and create sounds. One suggestion is to allow to save presets as favorites and also the ability to create new preset categories or folders. PS: don't let the non flashy looking UI discourage you. There is a lot under the hood. Edit: It would be cool if there was a graphical output level meter. Show more
