    Exactly what I needed
I needed an app to quickly play MIDI. Just drag and drop a file in, and hit play. Fast, and it works great. This is how apps should be!

    EXCELLENT !
Very handy for checking tempo and time signatures of MIDI files because it launches instantly. Also handy is it showing the active tracks and the activity of each. I used to have to open a bloated editor to get this info, but now with this I can do it instantly! Thank you dev! Show more

Perfect balance of MIDI playback features
This has become my goto app for quick playback / review of one, or many, MIDI files. Lots of essential features packed into a great looking UI!

MacOS 11.6 seems to have broken the app for virtual MIDI
Use of the app with virtual MIDI now seems broken in MacOS 11.6. The app can still play MIDI to synths on the same Mac if there is a USB MIDI interface with echo-back capability, such as the MIOxm and MIOxr, or a USB MIDI interface with output and input connected together to create a hardware-based loop-back. Mostly works as advertised
I was just looking for a basic MIDI player. This is nearly perfect, but I've run into two minor issues. The first is that there doesn't seem to be any discernible way to send a reset if notes get stuck using the built-in MIDI softsynth. Notes often "hang" or get "stuck" when switching files. The only fix for this seems to be quitting the app and relaunching it. The other issue is you can't drag and drop .kar files, but they will play just fine if I set this app as the default when I double click them. Show more

    Love it.
Close to the 90 synth sound. Great for any GM and GS midi files. Good color and tone.

    Great but lacks Tempo Lock
Really a P.I.T.A. trying to audition midi files in the tempo of the a song you may be composing. The tempo keeps jumping to whatever is set in the midi file and can't be locked to any one tempo. So it is a constant click play to audition - set tempo to say 87 BPM - click next file - then the tempo jumps to 125 BPM - so you you have click arrow down like 35 times - then repeat this process over and over - pretty much much unusable for searching hundreds of files quickly. The MIDI outs are great for auditioning in the DAW - YAY!! - Each new MIDI file selection resets the tempo :-( BOO!! I see the REX player has a tempo lock... PLEASE CONSIDER ADDING FEATURE TO MIDIPlayerX!!! Show more

    Tempo Doesn't Work
Tempo can only be changed by arrow (why not by data input?), and it doesn't actually affect the playback at all (in Catalina here), so tempo is always at 120bpm no matter what. Otherwise a very useful app, but two stars deducted until this is fixed. Added one star back as manufacturer responded quickly and constructively... will give 5 stars as soon as we figure out how to get tempo to work here. Show more

    Didn't do what I needed
I needed a simple MIDI player for updating the firmware on a guitar pedal. I was told specifically to use a simple midi player over the players in DAWs. I could not get the firmware upgrade to work with this MIDI player. I'm a little bummed because I will likely never use this app ever again for anything, but at least it was very inexpensive. I ended up running a virtual Windows 10 machine and using MIDI-OX instead, with absolutely no issues. I did try playing a MIDI track with this app (briefly). For this purpsose, it worked great. Huge time-saver
I have a 32-year-old Roland U-20 keyboard, and after I had the internal battery changed, the keyboard lost all of its default patch data (the display showed nonsense characters, and wouldn't play any internal instruments). The Roland company sent me a .MID file and instructions on how to set the U-20 to receive the default patches. I simply added a Roland U-20 device to MIDI Studio on the Mac, and connected the MIDI In and Out ports to an internal Mac MIDI device. MIDIPlayer X was extremely simple to use: I turned off Auto-Play and sent the data to the U-20. Problem solved, without spending weeks trying to figure out one of those complicated software sequencers. Show more

    Precisely what I needed.
I have Logic Pro X. I bought 3rd party midi files. Importing them is doable but slow and not very "user friendly". So, I bought MidiPlayer X to get a quick listen, in order to decide what to import. Works great! Very fast, simple, intuitive. Just what I needed. Show more

    Great for previewing MIDI files
Just drag-and-drop a file and start listening to it. Do the same with a whole folder and go from one file to the other with the click of a button.

    Exactly what I needed
MIDIPlayer X is a great app for just playing MIDI files, which is exactly what I needed; I have other music apps that can play MIDI files, however, they also do lots of other things, so it is an overkill when I just want to enjoy my MIDI files. Also, MIDIPlayer X uses OS X/macOS's built-in synth, which is based on (or at least sounds just like) Roland's Sound Canvas; this is what I used when sequencing my MIDI songs, so MIDIPlayer X allows my MIDI songs to sound just like they do on my external Roland synth, something that GarageBand does not do so well. Great functionality at a great price! Show more

    Crashes on start
Not usable for me. Crashes on start. OSX High Sierra on 2016 MBP.

    Very fast support
Had a problem with my reading expertise. I mean, when I see push on a door, I’m supposed to pull, right? However, when I emailed them that my music wouldn’t cycle to the next song, they answered right away (even on New Years Day, I might add) to keep clicking autoplay until it turns blue. They weren’t smart alecks and didn’t tell me to go back and read the instructions, dummy. For two bucks this is a great program. Show more

    Works great with digital pianos
If you own a digital piano and want to turn it into a “player piano” this simple MIDI app does the trick. I own a Yamaha P-85 and while it comes with a decent collection of built-in demo songs, I’ve always wanted to add more. Well, this app accomplishes just that. Connect your Mac via USB MIDI cable and enjoy! Thanks MethodRed! Show more

    Great!
This is a terrific bit of software! Once upon a time, MIDI playback was built into Preview. For some reason, Apple decided to drop the ball. Well, MethodRed has picked it up and run with it. Glad to find a lightweight solution—much better than opening Logic every time I want to preview a .mid file. Show more

Best $1.99 MIDI file player in the APP store
Simply the best $1.99 MIDI file player in the App Store. No other app under $14.99 lets you create a MIDI playlist, trigger VST virtual inputs, and save Type 0 files as channel separated Type 1 files. Would love to see a few more features added to a Pro version in the furure: 1) When saving, remove files that were muted prior to saving. (FYI, anything else you change gets saved in the newly saved file) 2) Give users an option to save either type 1 filesor type 0 MIDI files. Currently, all files become type 1 3) Manually type in which bar to start playback from 4) Change key Great job folks!!! Show more
