    Lacks tunings
The program offers a lot but lacks so many 6-string guitar tunings.

    Brilliant app! Serveral frustrating points.
I really hope this app is still in active development. I wrote to the developers a few weeks ago and haven't received a reply yet. I love so much about this app and wish that I could have used this 35 years ago. I would dearly love for the developers to consider a few minor changes though. The tunings that I've been experimenting lately aren't available in the default options in the app, and I can't add my own tunings. I think I have an idea which may solve several constraints at once. It's also not possible to clone a project and also change the tuning on the cloned project. I don't understand the reasoning behind binding the tuning at the project level, and then immediately. preventing changes to the tuning. GuitarLayers is such a powerful learning tool. Separating tunings from projects would allow for a whole new level of study and experimentation for guitarists that want to compare chord shapes, scales, and arpeggios across different tunings. Request: Please separate the tunings from the project settings. Several possible suggestions to approach this: Add 'tuning pegs' on each string of each fretboard. Then users could simply adjust the open fret-zero string note on each individual string on a fretboard within a project (up/down by half steps)? This would helpful, (especially for classical guitar players with guitars that play better when tuned down), would be an option to tune up or down by half steps. And it would have the immediate affect of ensuring that every possible tuning would be possible, and that tunings could mannualy be changed at the fretboard level, which would alieviate my point about adding a feature to allow changing the tunings on a cloned project. - If the above suggestion is too complicated, perhaps just allow changing the project-level tuning when cloning a project. Cheers, and thanks very much for your time and consideration. Show more

Scales, chords and every option lesson content
This a well thought out and well designed application with all the features, a storage file for all personally created scales and a well designed web page with some good learning material. I am pleasently suprised. I have had 20 guitar apps in three weeks looking for the right one. I consider myself an IT professional since its my career. When I first logged in I did have to get accustomed the interface and the design. When you log in you create your own folder and start storing content there. I was unsure at first but the logic kicked in. I have been looking for an App that has all material required but an app that also me to build the learning scales/content I need and modify as I go. I was also pleased when I was able to adjust the layout of the UI. Everything can be printed and the print layout is a one pager and obviously well thought of. But then I wanted learning material/content to support my study of the guitar and all the voicings. I navigated over the webpage and found a good mix of quality videos, a forum and additional resources. I'm very happy with the App. As an IT professional I have seen people put together an app in 2 days. This is not the case. This is a well configured, developed and functional application for my MacBook. Show more

    sound would be totally awesome
I love this app. Great conception, great learning and teaching tool. Great way to create new ways to practice. I too think it would be so awesome to hear sounds, although I know the developer didn't intend to do this. still, would make an awesome app even more awesome. Show more

    Very poor first impression
First time I opened the software it asked me to rate it, then it crashed. Careful for what you ask for. Running Mojave 10.14.2 on 2018 MacBook Pro. No other apps acting up. The UI is obtuse at best. Very odd selection of prominent customizable items like the fade and positioning of the note name, yet the fretboard nut is poorly represented and always faded, making it difficult to read. There is an over abundance of "<" and ">" forward/back icons sprinkled around in the UI with no labels or context help to clarify what they do. Five sets of "<" ">" on the main interface, all doing something different. Was hoping to find a chord namer function, nope. This software category has promise, maybe from a more experienced developer. moreOrLess is trying to tackle a difficult concept, hope they get some UI help and make this a great product. Save your $40 until they address reliability and fix the catastrophic interface. Show more

Great, but some improvements would be highly appreciated
This app is very useful and very ergonomic but some suggestions : - You cannot delete one individual note from a shape. Fortunately, most of the time you can find a suitable shape, but it’s a wasting time reviewing all differents shapes before findind the good one. And sometimes I was unable to find a good shape, for fingering purposes, so I have some note positions I cannot remove . The note removal is global where it should be individual. - In addition to the global zoom, a vertical zoom should be implemented to adjust the fretboard heigth, and to display several fretboards , i.e. for rehearsal . - No sound all all ( notes cannot be played ). For training or mobile situations, or without instrument, it can be useful to hear the notes. The final goal is playing music ;-) - May we have a user defined default color set instead of the default white color ? Now, I have to create a default shape with default colors then clone it. Other ideas for future versions: Add MIDI Clock or ReWire sync to automatically switch between groups or scrolling while using a DAW , and playing a song... Show more

    Love this app
I use this constantly. It requires a bit of learning, but it's absolutley incredible if you need to make charts of chords, scales or arpeggios.

Its a great Teaching, and practicing tool ! !!!
This piece of software has been great for reviewing my notes, scales, harmonies, chords, triads, complex chords and polytonal chords, for experimenting with different structures and theoretical concepts and for teaching students Music theory and structures based on simple building blocks to build complex theoretical structures for composition. Great app that needs fixes
I’m a guitar teacher and I can tell already that this app is going to be invaluable to me! I love that you can break scales down into different positions, easily print them out, etc. I will start using this with my students on day 1. The only downside is the app is pretty new I think so it does have the occasional crash and glitch, I hope these will be fixed over time. Also there is a great note section where you can put a text explanatoin to go along with the fretboard, however as far as I can tell you can not print the fretboard along with the text, you can only print the fretboard. Kind of defeats the purpose of putting in the explanation if you cant print it out for students, so I’d like to see that changed. Aside from these issues, this app is the BEST app I have ever seen for demonstrating chords, arpeggios, and scales, I’m really excited to use it with my students and help them visualize their scales one section at a time, and give them really nice full color printouts as well for many different diagrams! Amazing app for guitar players!
Love this app! With the layering, and ability to color code - you are able to instantly see patterns and shapes you have never noticed or thought about before. I am only an hour into using guitarLayers for the first time and am blown away at how amazing and powerful this tool is. I have been wanting something like this for years! Can’t wait to dig deeper into what guitarLayers can do! Show more

Best money I ever spent on an app
This app is well worth the money. I finally found a way to really organize all my scale, arpeggio, and chord charts in a manner that makes it very organized and easy to study. There is a small learning curve at first but the owners manuel (Download from their website) is well written. Once you figure out how to use this app the possibilities are endless. There are a few features missing that would make this app even better and that is adding a sound engine to play back your selections and a printing option so you could add your favorite charts to a binder. They have a user forum on their web site which will become very useful in the future when more users begin to share their projects. They have a lot of video tutorials on the web site however I could not find a way to enlarge the videos and the screen is so small on the site it is hard to get much from the videos. Buy this app now, I have a feeling that after they make a few updates the price will probably jump. Show more

Wow! This is a great program.
This is a very powerful program. I’ve only tapped the surface during the past few weeks that I’ve been using it. It is really helping me organize and integrate some of the things I have been working on. The thing I really like about it is that it takes full advantage of the visual and shape oriented qualities of the guitar and guitar chords and lines. When trying to learn or integrate new scales and/or licks sometimes It helps to temporarily focus on the spatial and visual nature of the chords or lines I’m working on. This program makes it a lot easier to do. I highly recommend this app. I’ll likely post updates over time. Show more

    No sound!
Well, concept is cool. However there is no sound! Shouldnt the notes on the scales be at least clickable? I want to be able to hear the scales and patterns.

    One crash after another.
So far this app is totally useless. I would hope that the developers dig in and correct these crash issues. Fast.
