Does not work on iOS 13. Changing presets does nothing.
It used to work OK. Too crashy for real time use. Shockwave has the same issues.

    Pop ups
Nags you to rate when you’re playing

    Still the best.
For an “all purpose” synth this thing is my number 1 choice by a large margin. Whenever I just want a voice or pad without wanting to experiment much or design or get into the weeds this is the silver bullet. Show more

    Stand alone doesn’t work
Emailed the developer several times over the last year but apparently he has no interest in fixing it or responding to emails. I have several of his apps and have no trouble with them but I can’t recommend this one. Show more

    Great Sounds with Caveats
Keyboard performance is laggy and sometimes completely unresponsive in the app. I still recommend it despite the performance issues.

    So buggy
    Still... just like the rest

    Best synth now unusable
I used to be able to set the global pitch bend rating to 24. And for no reason, it disappeared. Developer won’t respond to this and my shockwave emails. It’s a shame because these were my go to synths for giging with my mope controller. It’s useless as an MPE synth now. Show more

    Legato problem
    1. When setting after touch to control the filter, legato mode does not work. I get a bunch of stuttering notes. 2. How do I map breath control to filter cutoff? Trying to assign breath in the map controller section but can’t figure out how... tapping, hold press, swiping, nothing works. Show more

    AU3 not working properly
I can use is as an AU3 extension in Garageband but not in Cubasis or NanoStudio 2. My error. Wonderful synth

Wonderful MPE synth with vintage flavor
I’m a ROLI Seaboard player, always looking for instruments that will play nicely with MPE. I mostly use my MacBook for sound generation, but sometimes traveling light is the order of the day, and Volt has fast become a favorite on iOS. A lot of MPE-compatible apps sort of end at “compatible” — the function is there, but it’s not very musical in its application. Volt makes is easier than even ROLI to map parameters to and apply modulation using 5D touch, and the sounds are much more geared toward the classic synth tones I’m always chasing. I will say that Roli’s MPE synth offerings are still more responsive to, and integrated with, the Seaboard, but their iOS offerings are inflexible, walled-garden, demo-level instruments. Moog’s Model D app still wins out as far as dead-ringer vintage sounds, but it’s not nearly as natural to play using MPE. So all hail Volt, and kudos to any developer who puts in the hours to make something as expressive, versatile, and sleek as this synth. Any instrument this good at this price is a no-brainer. Enjoy it! Show more

    Really awesome but having issues
This is a really beautiful synth app in terms of both sound quality and its interface. However the latest version is creating some audio problems on my iPad (6th gen). With some of the presets, as soon as a touch a key, the VU meter goes full blast (into the red), and I hear zero audio. When I remove my fingers from the keys, the volume is still maxed out in the red almost as if it’s stuck in some sort of feedback loop... but still no audio at all. What’s more interesting is that if I switch to any other app while Volt is in this state, I can’t get audio from those apps either. So it seems like Volt is causing some kind of system-wide audio problem. I’d love to be able to use Volt in a live performance situation because it sounds fantastic when it works. However, this problem makes that impossible. Show more

    Great synth
This synth is fantastic. Beautiful GUI, great sound. I have an over all questions that applies to so many iPad apps, why is there black borders around the software app? I have the new iPad Pro with the great screen that goes practically all the way to the edge yet then your app and many others don’t take advantage of that extra screen space? There is a black border around the app’s GUI.... Why is that? Show more

Fix your app and I’ll change my rating
I could not use Volt because the preset scroller will not access any sounds at all:( But I emailed Kai and he responded immediately and discovered it was a bug with my iPhone and os already on fixing it. He even showed me a workaround. Loving the sounds! Show more

Rich sound, simple, effective controls; limited modulation routing
Volt is one of those synths that just sounds fantastic. The synth engine is very streamlined: everything is boiled down to a few well chosen powerful controls that interact very well together. Simple to use yet very effective. Volt is quite cpu hungry (like most of the latest top quality analogue modeling iOS synths), so don’t expect to be able to run that many instances of the au in real time or without bouncing tracks. My biggest disappointment with Volt is with the routing options for midi modulation sources: eg pressure, key slide, etc. If you want to control multiple parameters with a single source, you are limited to applying the same modulation amount to each parameter. That basically makes it near impossible to use the a single gesture/source to do complex morphing between different sounds. (At minimum, being able to reverse the polarity of the control value per destination would help with that. Another option that would be user friendly (and fit with the streamlined design of Volt), but harder to implement, would be to be able to take ‘snapshots’ of the synth’s settings, assigning one snapshot to the min value for a modulation source, and one to the max value. And to use the modulation source to interpolate between those states.) Fingers crossed, that will be improved with the next update, but there are also stability issues with Volt on my device at this point (iOS 12, iPhone 7+). Last minor issue: the interface in au mode can be a pain to navigate in some hosts (eg Garageband on an iPhone), needing to scroll up and down on top of left-right, which makes the synth a pain to program in those hosts. (I think this has to do with the fact that the interface isn’t resized depending on au window size (and for hosts that don’t give you control over au window size, you can run out of luck..) Show more

    Great with a Roli Seaboard
Much better than the software made by Roli for their Seaboard block, VOLT works great with MPE
  • KlattG, 11.07.2018
    Very expressive MPE
Wow, this is one of the first apps that truly utilizes MPE with simplicity and depth. Loving it with the ROLI Seaboard block. The patches are dreamy!

    Excellent IOS Synth
Money well spent. Limitless capability. Great Sound. Works seamlessly with my other Apps.

    Can’t Use presets?
Just downloaded and none of the presets are loading, not through beatmaker 3 or if I open the app by itself. What gives!!?

It says it works with “roli products”
Just bought it thinking about in using it with my lightpad block and despite being connected/recognized doesn’t trigger any sounds. Am I doing something wrong? I own a Rise 49 but is too big and heavy to carry around. I want to be able to use this on the go. Please clarify this. Show more
