    Instructions would be helpful
It’s a great aid to practice but frustrating as a test/game as it requires trial and error to figure out the “rules”. Which are still confusing for me. So I am using it just to get feedback as I practice intervals, using my piano. Show more

    Beautifully made but zero instructions
The app looks quite nice but there are no instructions. Instead, it immediately judges you, with “waah, -20 points”. Not everything needs to be gamified.

    Great sight singing app
The design is beautiful and the exercise are nicely graded to become gradually more challenging. I really like having the tuner there and the continuous intonation feedback. I’ve never had fun sight singing until using this app! Show more

    Excellent!
I’m a vocal coach and music teacher. This app facilitates a lot of the rote work for my students, which means I can make the most of our time together!

    Amazing App!!!
I am a musician who used to use SRF to practice for auditions and just to get better at sight reading, and this app is just as good for free! I appreciate that the creators of this app made Ella a free tool to help educate and improve aspiring musicians all over the world with sight reading. Thank you so much Ella! ❤️❤️❤️ Show more

    Needs Movable Do
Great app, but doesn’t have an option for movable do, only fixed do

    Amazing software
Best software to see how close you are singing to the real pitch of the music . Hearing yourself singing along with the notes can help develop stronger pitch technique

    Moveable do
So far this app is a great practice tool. It even allows you to show or hide solfege, but only using fixed do. I would love for my students to be able to use this as a sight reading tool with moveable do as an option. Show more

    Good for training
I’ve been enjoying this so far. However, I have noticed a bug of some sorts when using it. A few times, I have gotten two stars on a level, and wanted to try again to go for three stars. When I did, I still was getting scores in the 70s and 80s, and yet my accuracy was bugged to stay at 100 and it awarded me the 3 stars anyways. It didn’t really feel earned. I’ve looked into it, and it only seems to happen when I hit “try again”, and leaving the level and coming back seems to reset it back to normal. Other than that, I have been enjoying the app and plan to use it occasionally to keep my aural skills up outside of school. Show more

Great Idea, Just Fix the Execution!
I am a professional choral singer and choir director, so I was excited to see an app that might help myself and my students brush up sight-singing skills. I think the game aspect of Ella works really well. Collecting stars is so much fun! I do have some issues from a musical standpoint, though. My main criticism is that the developers did not consider vocal differences or realistic sight-singing ranges when writing the exercises. Once you are past the initial easy levels, many of the exercises have ranges of an octave and a fifth. It is nice that the app allows you to sing in any octave, but that isn’t helpful when changing the octave still puts many of the pitches in an uncomfortable range. Because the app also penalizes even minimal vibrato, this can result in very unhealthy singing at extreme ranges. On one exercise, I had the option of singing an A5 straight-tone or grumbling out an E3! I can handle this as a professional, but would never recommend this app to my students. In order for sight-singing to be done healthily, the ranges must be smaller than regular performance ranges, with the majority of the pitches being in a comfortable range. I think the best way to improve the app, other than allowing for vibrato, would be to limit the vocal range of each exercise. It would also be nice if you could select your personal comfortable singing range, and the app could place each exercise in the correct octave for you. I hope the developers keep improving on this wonderful concept! Show more

    Great for Aural Skills
I’m a university student at a music school and this app gives you immediate feed back when practicing aural skills. It rates your singing based on tone, accuracy and overall Intonation. This app is ahead of all other apps and It makes you feel like sighting singing is a little bit like a game Instead if chore. It’s great for vocalists or non/vocals who are trying to improve there sight singing download this today! Show more
