    Meh
Does not track well - background music is irrelevant to what is on screen as far as key signature or even steady beat. Discouraging for anyone, even this music teacher! I don't reccomend for anyone serious about improving their music skills. Nice toy though. Show more

The fact that this is a free app is amazing!!

    Songs
There should be more modern songs in this app to make people want to play this app.

    Frustrating
I am a professional musician and I can’t get more than 50% on rhythm when singing, even on the easiest setting. There must be something wrong with the calibration. I wouldn’t share this with my students because it would be frustrating for them to play or sing something perfectly but get bad feedback. Great interface and accompaniments though, and I love the inclusion of a lesson at the top of each book. Show more

    A great rhythm method!
I’m a trombonist and use this app with my students. I like to assign it as a lesson supplement for them to use during the week to help with reading and the results have been great. Nightly recommend Show more

    Fantastic on so many levels!
This is the best and most engaging music reader app I have encountered! So many levels to fit every student’s needs and truly fun! We will be sending information on this music reader app to all of our young musicians. I highly recommend this one. Exactly what I'm looking for!
I've been looking for an app for my band students that is similar to Piano Maestros but for band/orchestra instruments! Here it is! This makes learning an instrument fun by combining a method book progression, smartmusic listening, and rock band style points! I think this app can go far in meeting the needs of beginner band students anywhere! Show more

    Good start
So far I like using with students a ton. Range is an issue. For instance, trombone book 2 d minor should not be below the staff. Haven’t checked out other instruments but keep making improvements and corrections. I would love to use it even more! Show more

Great app but didn’t work for me
I wish this app could hear my mandolin:-( rooks like a fun way to practice site reading for learning a new instrument. It could detect that I was playing but not the notes. Show more

A great (and fun!) App for Music Education!
This is a great resource for music educators or casual instrumentalists looking to improve their reading skills! The interface is super clean, accuracy of assessment is good (great with headphones!), the backing tracks make playing through the levels so much more fun than a simple metronome or clock track! An awesome app for young musicians! Show more

    Beginning
This is super cool and fun. I will be using it with a lot of my beginning musicians.

    Lots of promise!
There are lots of things to be excited with Noelle's new app. I am excited to see an app that is more age-appropriate and more accessible than its rivals (think sight reading factory or SmartMusic). That said, I'm rating it 4 stars more for what it will be than what it currently is. In its current state, it's more like a 3-star app. The price is a bit on the high side. The flashing cursor lags behind the beat which could cause confusion for the student m. It did for me. I ultimately had to ignore it, though I later saw that this function can be disabled. However, the beat and notes still don't line up perfectly. Also, some of the lines are a bit long early on, though that may be more nitpicky than a true critique. I would also add that, though most books begin with wholes moving to quarter, I would suggest reversing that and having quarters move to whole notes. I use Darcy Vogt-Williams Teaching Rhythm Logically curriculum and I think that approach keeps kids more interested in the initial stages. Truly, I am excited to see where an app of this calibre will go. It shows a lot of potential and I am fortunate to provide my two cents in feedback. Best of luck, Noelle! Show more

Fun game for my sight singing and sight reading. The monster is fun to feed. Getting better and having fun!

    Great potential
The app has great qualities like forcing students to look ahead and quickly recognize notes and rhythms. The downside is that it is not optimized very well for the beginning instrumentalist. In level (book) 2, clarinets go over the break, and brass go below the straff on concert F instead of building range and working partials. Show more

Fun game for sight reading, highly recommend
I’m a piano teacher and I love using this app with my students. It’s got a lot of game-like qualities so it’s a hit with younger students and I myself enjoy playing with the app just using my voice (great for sight-singing!). I’ve used other apps like Rhythm Cat but this one is much comprehensive and allows you to actually play your instrument while using it. Easily 5 stars. It’s worth it to get the in-app purchases so you can include eighth notes in your practice. Show more

    I LOVE THIS APP!!!
Hands down one of the best ways to have fun and practice at the same time. The real difference with Monster Musician Reader is that it was created by amazing musicians/performers/educators for students of any level. My students love playing along with the original music in each track, and trying to master each level makes the game really fun. Definitely worth checking out for private lessons, classroom teaching, or if you want another way to practice on your own! Show more

    Secretly Teaching Myself to Sing
I have a lousy voice. It’s bad. I mean really bad. Yet, I persist in singing in public, karaoke, around my family and friends, and strangers at work. No longer though. I’m already making marked improvements as I use this app to work on improving my ear and voice for note, rhythm, and pitch. But don’t tell anyone please. I’m hoping by this time next year I’ll be able to shock my family when I bust out the Christmas carols with a voice that doesn’t send them searching for reasons to leave the house. Show more
