Helpful, with room to improve & expand
I love the engagement this provides. I like to make as many connections as possible while learning, and repetition is key for me, too, which is why I find this app so effective. Sometimes it was helpful for me to look at a keyboard while using the app to figure out the correct answers through understanding (rather than guessing). I didn’t always have one available, though, so would like to suggest adding a small keyboard diagram that can be toggled on or off during game play. There are glitches and room for refinement. There are ways to give feedback, though these are glitchy, too. Based on the description of the app, I had an unrealistic expectation about the number of levels and frequency of additions. I was surprised to have completed all the levels within two months. I hope new material will be added soon for more scales and the circle of fifths. I would like also to see the addition of short explanations or definitions. For example, there are levels that ask you to identify or build dominant chords, but I had to go elsewhere to get a reminder about what those are. All in all, this is a good app. It has been very helpful to my learning process. October 2021 Show more

    Cannot create profile(fixed)
I’ve been trying for a couple of weeks now to create a profile, as I purchased a year subscription. Everytime, it freezes at the “enter your email” screen. I tried to email compoze directly and it failed to send after multiple tries. If I can get this resolved the review will recieve more stars but, right now, I’m just disappointed. UPDATE: The CEO reset my profile for me, saving my progress and this all resolved within a day. Great app! Show more

    Issues Opening App
I was looking for an app to have my private student use on days that we don’t have music lessons. When doing research I found this app and saw that it had wonderful reviews so I recommended it to my student. So far my student loves it and works wonderfully! Unfortunately for me, I am not able to use the app. I downloaded the app with success but every time I try to open it all I get is the Score Skills logo and a loading screen. I have downloaded the app over and over again hoping that would fix it but it didn’t. I emailed your company with the email listed on your website but received an automatic response saying my email was rejected. I would love to use your app so if there is any way to trouble shoot this please do!! Show more

    Hit and miss
The beginning starts off great and easy for beginners. I was hoping to add this as a tool to my studio. Unfortunately, it gets hard pretty fast around the 4th level. Some of the levels afterwards are a bit easier, but then it gets hard again. It would be better if this app introduced more notes on the staff first before all the complicated rhythm patterns. Also, some Of the musical examples play really fast and Some Of the musical examples become unmelodic. It would be better to train someone’s ear by giving melodic notes within the scale (solfege) building up slowly. There are also some unusual matching/pairings. I understand what they’re trying to convey, but real music & music theory doesn’t match things as the app does. Show more

    It started out good...
But after being stuck on the Semitones and wholetones lesson for weeks, I realized there is no actual instruction on how to find a semitone or a wholetone. Which then led me to realize that the reason I got through up to that point was because I actually had enough background to understand the the assumptions behind each lesson that otherwise some people may not even get past themselves. Now I’m stuck and even watching tutorials online and knowing what these tones actually are, I still have no idea what I’m looking for in getting the right answers. So after paying the yearly subscription, I’m officially quitting accepting the sunk cost and moving to a different app. Show more

I love this app but what’s going on ?
I recently started to use this app and by far it’s my favorite app and it really helps me learn music theory while making it fun and interesting. My app all of a sudden is not opening and keeps crashing and I’m starting to rethink this thing? What can I do to get it fixed ? I need this app to help me learn.. Show more

    Costs money after 5 minutes
I tried it and loved it, for the first two lessons before they made me pay a $50 membership to continue. Find another app unless you have hundreds of dollars to spend on learning music. Show more

On its way to being one of the best apps on the market
The customer appreciation and service is off the charts. The developers are clearly listening to their users and adjusting the glitches based on direct feedback. If you think it’s only for beginner and intermediate, and you’re advanced, Think about it for your students. I strongly recommend checking this out and giving feedback. The developers take all comments in stride and communicate whenever possible. If you are advanced, but enjoy checking out new apps,You will be challenged directly by the developers even if you don’t feel challenged quite yet in the beginner levels on the app itself. Highly recommend this on the ground level as we all learn and grow together. Show more

Front page for $40 a year
Utterly self serving of Apple to put this up as the app of the day. I completed the free stuff in 2 minutes. The app crashed twice in those two minutes. Not something I would spend $40 on an annual subscription. The activities were actually pleasant though. Show more

    Scammed
They charged me after I canceled my subscription ?

    canceled
I bought a subscription to this app because I really liked it but then it kept malfunctioning and I couldn't even sign back in to it??? I noticed the makers of the app, in the reviews, keep telling people that its fixed and they apologize but it still has issue- seems like a scam to me. Show more

    Great but needs work
The Duolingo set up for music theory is a brilliant idea but there are many areas that need improvement. For instance if I get the wrong answer in the matches there’s no way to take back your answer or progress so I have to start the quiz over, this can be very frustrating seeing as how common the matching questions are. When I am required to write a note the app automatically zooms in to where I can even see all the lines to place notes on. It would be very helpful to add short explanations before introducing new musical concepts instead of just throwing us into the quizzes guessing (granted most new concepts are pretty easy to figure out without an explanation). Not Free
This app is free for 5 minutes. I’m sure the app is great from the reviews, but if you’re looking for something free this isn’t the app. In order to get this you have to pay a monthly subscription which I am not interested in. Once again, the app seems to be fine when you pay for it from the other reviews. Show more

    So so so glitchy!!!
I am so disappointed with this app. I paid $40 to get the year subscription for what I thought was a really awesome app to learn piano, but turns out this app is so poorly made and disjointed. I love the concept but the glitchyness is impossible to work with. The app crashes constantly. Sometimes it won’t even show you a question but answer options will still show up and you’ll have no idea what to do. The “music writing” program is so clunky and impossible to work and there is no option to not do those. You have to finish them and get enough right to move onto the next levels but sometimes it’s insanely difficult just because the app is hard to use. On top of that it doesn’t teach you what anything means. It’s telling me to find “dominant function” vs “tonic” but never says what they are or what they mean. I’m so incredibly disappointed and wish I could get my money back. I knew this was a Duolingo rip off but I didn’t think it was going to be as bad as it was. Show more

    Great app
So it’s a great app and I completed the first two basics but it says I need to be a subscriber or something to continue.

    Great Supplement
I am trying to learn music theory on my own and have bought a couple books to do so. The books have examples but I was hoping to find something that I could follow along with and “hear” what I was learning. I downloaded this because I was looking for something to supplement, and not expecting much because most of the others were lack luster. I told myself “I’ll probably cancel the subscription after the trial” I was wrong! After using this for only 30 minutes it is well worth the money for someone trying to learn music solo. It is a similar format to Duolingo, and helps to be a visual and audible supplement to the material I am reading. It lets you work through tons of examples and really helps solidify the concepts of music theory. I can’t only speak from my experience, but I will be continuing to use this as I learn. Show more
