Remains one the coolest sounding synths for iPads
Amazingly expressive, still essential in 2022.

    A dream come true
The possibilities offered in this app are great, intuitive design, being able to create your own tunings by assigning specific tone frequencies to each note and then making your own scales it’s a dream come true for me. Also the presets are fantastic as well, creating my own synths it’s a rewarding activity. Thank you very much. Show more

Just about the best drone-oriented synth there is, hw or sw on any platform.
The recent addition of individual outs makes it an order of magnitude more amazing. This guy is a genius.

    Thank you for updates
This is actually a great app. If making drones with a ton of virtual analog polyphony sounds up your alley, buy this.you can also do expressive theremin style leads too

    Needs auv3 to stay relevant!

    Deep and Fun
And it sounds fantastic. Do read the reviews. It is more soundscape than a traditional synth. And if you are willing to invest some time, you can do a lot. Have fun. Show more

    Experimental and Ambient niceness
First- Thanks to the developer for including Bluetooth speaker support. I've found this lacking in many other synth/music apps. I mainly work with ambient/experimental/avant-garde type stuff and I looove this app. I find Shoom very easy to extract inspirational loops, sounds ,drones from. I mainly work from a collage type approach and, once again, I find this excellent for that sort of use. I like the layout and the controls. Just great. Looking forward to more releases from this developer. ?? Show more

    Highly Performable
Here's the thing about Shoom ..it's not the most powerful whiz-bang, gizmo synthesizer ever created for the iPad. It has no 900 watt, voltage controlled, multi-mode flagging delay timber-shifting filter, highly complex modulation routing scheme, modular-synth aspirations or anything particularly inovative. It's actually a pretty simple, straight ahead instrument (actually THREE instruments, more on that later). Instead it has a conventional two-VCO, VCF, VCA voice path, a couple of ADSR envelope generators, a couple of LFOs, a VCA, delay and reverb. Pretty pedestrian by today's standard. So what makes this application so powerful, you might ask. Two things. First, the fact is it is highly performable. Everything is simple, direct and easily accessible and the layout strongly encourages interaction with its simple parts which, when combined, create something far greater than the sum of its parts. Under the hood, there are actually THREE identical synthesizers at work here and all three of them, while separately accessible are played from the same surface - color coded so you can keep track of what is going on on all three instruments. Switching between and controlling all three instruments is about as simple as it can be. Everything works as you would expect if you are experienced with just about any conventional keyboard synthesizer made in the last 40 years or so. The mod ranges are deep, which is GREAT. For example, you can really warp a VCO when you modulate it with an FM oscillator that sweeps 10 octaves! Any set up of the three synthesizers can be saved as a "session". Switching between sessions is instantaneous with no glitches. The sounds just ...change. Period. That is great for live performance and improvisation. Tuning systems and scales can also be freely selected and are stored with the session. Finally, Shoom just flat sounds GREAT. The audio quality is powerful, strong, clear and clean. Digital artifacts appear only in the near-supersonic range. So just about any patch comes off sounding as good as a high-quality hardware analog system. Hopefully the future holds some more advanced features and gizmos like a sequencer or arpegiator and maybe some more modulators (even just a couple more LFOs would be great), an additional effect or two and modulation routing (currently quite good) will be expanded even further. Overall, Shoom is a great sounding, highly interactive and playable synthezier despite it's conceptual simplicity. I really like it because it's design strongly encourages interactive creativity and live improvisation work. So ...get it. Show more

    Masterful
Being the proud owner of nearly every synth in the d*mn app store, it takes a special kind of synth to really grab my attention these days. This synth has done just that. There are no words for just how incredible it really is. Pay the ten bucks. We need to make sure this guy keeps developing apps for years to come. Show more

    Fantastic...
One of the first iOS instruments I bought was Yuri's Xynthesizr; it didn't take long to figure out that he was a very creative and innovative programmer and musician. I have spent lots of very creative hours with that app, and still do. Shoom is every bit as interesting, maybe more so. I can easily imagine lots of very late nights messing around with this thing, and I'm looking forward to diving into it. I just spent about 15 minutes playing around with his demo files, and I can't put it away... Thanks for another really great app!!! Show more

    Almost there...
Giving this 5 stars because it sounds really, really good, and it's a good concept without much (supported, at least) competition in the App Store. It needs a few things to be perfect: a built in arpeggiator, and the ability to record movements on the xy pad would put this over the top. Also, the ability to respond to midi notes would be a plus, but as the whole point is as an xy pad synth, not totally necessary. Also, I thought the mod options were severely limited, as the layout doesn't make it immediately apparent, but if you click on the mod destinations for the lfos and y axis you can change the destination. A freely assignable mod envelope would be great too. And finally, I haven't checked yet, but if this doesn't already respond to midi bank and program changes, that would be amazing. All that said, I have a feeling at least some of these features will be implemented, so if you're looking for a really fun to play synth app for textures, drones, bleeps and glitches, definitely worth buying. It's alright
I don't see anything spectacular. It will train you to use lfo's well. To me it's similar to TC-11 but with a lot less options. But it's also cheaper than TC-11. It makes drone sounds like everyone says. I am not entirely sure how to fit it into my workflow. I would approach it with the mindset of a fun experimental toy. Show more

    Five stars when ...
I have over a hundred iOS synth/effect apps This is definitely a welcomed app to my collection. I really think the synth has a phenomenal personality. The user interface needs some polishing as things don't seem intuitively laid out. I'd like to see a cut audio switch and a free lfo. Some lipstick on the gui and a full screen mode for performance Show more

    Shoom: Awesome Synthesizer!
Wow! Shoom creates some unbelievable otherworldly sounds on my iPad Pro. Have never heard anything like it. Would be great for creating soundtracks, ambient pieces, etc. Just started with it and looking forward to creating space-music on my iPad Pro! Show more

    Great Drone Scales Galore
Among other things, this app is great for generating drones. You can use MIDI CC sending apps to modulate the many parameters in Shoom. Lots of scales to choose from. Being able to select different presets for each of the three synths, and play multiple notes on them which can be held lets you create very complex and textured sounds. Show more

    Wow!
Amazing, amazing. The quality of the sounds and controllers are beautiful!?

    Shoom is brilliant!
Shoom is an immediate favorite app of mine. Coming from the developer of the excellent Xynthiszr, Shoom fills a major need in the iOS music world. Shoom will now replace the (sadly abandoned) Dr. OM, NoiseMusick and Droneo apps in my arsena;. Shoom is incredibly good at creating drones. With its three oscillators, you can make some long drones with space for some soaring spaced-out leads on top. The sound pallette available is remarkable, and programming is a breeze. This app will appeal to those who may not have a breadth of knowledge when it comes to sound synthesis, as the presets alone are immediately playable. But, if you know your way around programming oscillators, filter envelopes, etc., then Shoom will be even more excellent. I can't recommend this app enough! Show more

    Superb Application
This thing is so much fun. Well thought-out and well executed. It sounds fantastic and instantly sparks creatvity. Easily one of the best iOS synths available.

Holding out for midi note input
Supports midi cc and clock ONLY. Can't play notes from a controller or sequencer. Update: dev is very responsive about this and has updated app description to clarify. I will anxiously await a version with more complete midi support. Show more
