I use this everyday

Though it says you can just spend 10 minutes a day on it, it hooked me and I spent about an hour a night. The levels are thought out well. Some I struggled with before finally making it to 95% average in a level. I arbitrarily made that the threshold before I’d move up. After making it through all defiant levels, I was happy to learn I could create custom levels as general or focused as I wanted. All the default levels were I-IV-V-I maj then minor, but after all those, I created ii-V-I. During Ii-V-I drills in random keys and many octaves, I discovered I failed to get 100% on rounds because I often confused two intervals — flat 5 and sharp 5 (si). So I created a drill with only those two intervals in random keys and many octaves and drilled the heck out of it. For a while, I was no better than about 50%, which was like flipping a coin. Eventually, I heared the difference even in distant octaves and got 10% in rounds. Then I returned to my ii-V-I drill and finally got /get 100% on rounds though occasionally some 90-95%. A funny side effect of using this app is I stopped playing online word games. I much rather use this and improve my musicianship. There’s definitely a mild game vibe I didn’texpect or notice until I realized I’d lost interest in playing playing word games. Transcribing is easier. I suspect it’s helping other musicianship aspects, similar to the way weight lifting and running can help with other sport skills. Regarding the method of playing back the tone’s scale approach down or up to the root, I don’t really know if it helps. I think it does to internalize short intervals 1-3 and 6-8 but not for the intervals I struggled with (confusing the flat and sharp 5). It may have hindered my grasp of those two until I created the custom drill mentioned above. Thanks for the app! Show more

This app has helped tremendously with ear training for me! It’s simply laid out and all the explanations are clear and easy to understand. I love that the notes resolve back to the tonic in a simple rhythm, it makes all the difference when trying to pinpoint a note later! Best ear training app I have ever used!! Show more
