Love all the features but uses lots of battery in the background even when not playing music. Looking for a battery friendly alternative.

I use this app to allow me to shuffle by Album. However, another nice feature is the ability to remember where it last played, even after a full battery charge. My iPod touch is of the last generation and won’t do the latest Apple Music updates that remember playback but instead erases my whole shuffle if I pause too long or charge battery to full power. What I would like in this app is the ability to also shuffle by song...thereby allowing me to fully replace Apple Music/iTunes altogether. Any chance of that? That would convince me to give this app 5 stars. Show more

App used to work alright, primary gripe was you can’t look up a song and start from there, you have to know what album it’s on, and you have to find the album in the shuffled view - takes forever when you have 100s of albums and/or improperly named albums. Now however it’s not even shuffling by album, the ONE thing this app is supposed to do. Even when not connected to my car, the app periodically just reverts to normal shuffle and the only way I can discern to get it to work again is to reshuffle. Show more

Why is it Apple breaks you app every time they do an iOS (12.2) update? About every 5 albums or so get the Playing a Different List overlay message...IT IS ANNOYING. Show more

Great app! Keep it up!

I bought this years ago, thought it was ok, but stopped using it. I recently reinstalled the app after what must have been tons of updates. It is totally different, and is now hands down my favorite music app. The interface is way better than the Apple Music app. I mainly listen to classical music and love being able to skip by album. This is a great app for people who enjoy listening to full albums! It’s just missing one feature I think would be key: filter by “Album has more than X tracks” to make it easier to ignore singles and incomplete albums. Thanks! Show more

When I initially purchased this app, it worked fine. Each time I hopped in the car the album I’d been listening to would resume where it left off. Occasionally, if I’d been away from the car for a while, using other apps, it would “forget” the playlist in progress, and the iPhone music player would revert to the first track in my library by alphabetical order. Upon opening Smart Shuffle a prompt (from my iPhone I believe) would let me play from the last remembered song, which usually wasn’t exactly where I left off, but close enough. The problem is that it gradually got to the point that Smart Shuffle would rarely resume a playlist when I started the car, and could never seem to successfully restore a playlist, instead just reshuffling. I have over 500 albums on my phone, and would like to stick with a playlist that allows me to hear many different things without repeats. Constantly stopping and starting over is a deal breaker. I’ve recently added a different app that performs the same function and doesn’t seem to have any such issues. Unfortunate because I prefer the look of the Smart Shuffle interface, especially the screen that allows you to swipe through albums horizontally. Show more

Why still mo ability to select a playlist, play songs randomly assigning playcount of 1 to each before repeating any song or any album, then start over with playcount of 2, etc.? Show more

I almost feel like this app deserves 5 stars simply because it provides a stellar concept for the neglected album lover. I want to love it, I really do. Unfortunately, this is not everything it ought to be. The concept is perfect. The way you can explore playlists, combine playlists, and add/remove albums for listening is great. Once that is done, the user experience is pretty bad. The interface is slow and doesn’t react in a timely way when responding to buttons being pushed. (I’m using an iphone 7. Maybe that’s the reason. Maybe iOS is bugging. But i think it should work properly on a 1 year old phone.) There’s also no way to actually interact with songs, scrub through the track, rate or love songs. I bought it for a dollar figuring it was worth a shot but it doesnt meet the requirement. If you’re going on a road trip, this will work great. Otherwise, not so much. If only the album shuffle and album selections could be merged into what apple already has in the stock app, we would have a GREAT app. Not yet though. Show more

This app is exactly what I needed. I was an iPod Shuffle early adaptor and shuffling by album was the perfect way to go through my tunes. This app works very well! Occasionally it needs a reinstall to stop it from getting stuck on one album when returning to the already open app. Thank you for this! Show more

I've used this app for a few years now and am a big fan, but a recent update has started really draining my battery. 50% of my battery goes to smart shuffle, even if I'm not listening to music. Show more

This clever app shuffles my music by album. It has surpassing depth. I can select any number of albums using any criteria and hear just what I want to fill a day in the car or a week in my office with concerts. The best part is that the developer—who seems to be just one guy with one app— is VERY responsive to feedback and has fixed any issues that used to arise when I switched locations or car audio systems. Apple makes it really hard to get what I want from their Music app. This developer understands that completely! Show more

If you listen to music in your car the car stereo won’t go to the next album. It just goes to song number one of the album playing right now. You have to press next album on the iPod. Then again when that album is over. If you want to listen to just one album over and over again, no problem. As it goes for playing music on your head phones everything works just right. No problem. It’s only when you’re playing music via usb cord on your car radio. Show more

This app does what it says, which is great for all the Classical music that I listen to. The problem is that when I want to select a new song or playlist, I need to quit the Smart Shuffle app, or it continues trying to play whatever song was next in the playlist that it creates. This app adds the ability shuffle by album to iPhones. It's been gaining features, though, and is now a pretty good stand-alone music player.

I've tried a lot of different apps that purport to do album shuffle but they either don't work or play the same albums again and again while ignoring others. This app does what it says it will do, and does it well. If only all apps were so sensible. Show more

I've been looking for an album shuffler ever since the album shuffle was removed for whatever reason. I have a large classical music library set up with each work as a separate movement and to properly play these pieces you need album shuffle. I downloaded Smart Shuffle a while ago, but it really didn't have the flexibility I needed---specifically the ability to choose a playlist or genre. The new rebuilt version is now insanely powerful and allows filtering by genre, playlist or even how often something gets played. I've been fooling with it and it has finally made my iPhone useable for playing my classical music. Thank you, thank you, thank you. A home run, and it works beautifully so far as I've found. This is the album shuffler to get. Listening with it right now with a big grin. Well done. Show more

Finally… The return of album shuffle. I thought I was the only one who missed this. My only wish is that it should pick up the entire library, whether in the cloud or physically on the phone. For me, the magic of album shuffle is rediscovering albums that you hadn't thought about in a long time. I can only fit a fraction of my collection on my phone, so I have to think about an album in order to have it available for albums shuffle. Would love for this app to develop the ability to stream directly from my collection via iTunes. Show more
