Great app, perfect for MIDI work with a DAW
This is the app we've been looking for!! No more need to buy a keyboard, this app can connect wirelessly or through a connection to your Mac/Pc and be used to control instruments in your audio program! A perfect tool for musicians and media professionals!! Developer consistently updates the app. Definitely worth the money. And yes, it is a piano. It doesn't make music for you...It requires a person and talent!! We recommend it!! Show more

    Mooo-tastic!
I purchased Pianist Pro mostly to use the Scale Piano interface with Propellerhead Reason/Record on my MacBook Pro. At first Pianist Pro worked great on my iPad, but I couldn't get it to trigger notes on my MBP. I contacted MooCowMusic tech support, and found them extremely helpful. They responded to an email within 18 hours or so, just like they promise! More importantly, they helped me configure Pianist Pro to trigger notes in Reason. And I have to say, I had doubts when I read that using the OSC to Pure Data configuration suffers very little latency, but there's really not very much present over a decent WIFI signal. And if you set up the Mac's iPad-to-computer (Ad Hoc) Networking, the latency drops to nearly nothing. Believe it! I have yet to spend too much time actually playing the app since I wanted to get this setup working (I've only had it one day). But so far everything seems well thought out and conveniently located. There are multiple methods for changing where you are playing on both the piano keyboard and Scale Piano keyboard. The on board sounds are great, although I'll probably be using those in Reason and Record more. The one interface change I would suggest is some way to keep the scale and key chooser window open while playing the Scale Piano "keys". You naturally want to change scales/modes for shading or flavor, and while you can do it with the current UI, you are only left with 1/4 inch keys to pluck. All in all, this is a great application, with great support behind it, and comes at a very fair price. Show more

    Resources
I've been buying tech toys for over 25 years... and I can usually tell how good a product is mearly by it's manual.. Read the resources section in the manual. The designer explains in technical and non-technical terms. Maybe I'm blind, but it's the first time i've seen this done. 5 stars for that alone. I'm sure the program needs it's tweaks and stuff...which I'm not gonna comment on...but I'm confident they will come. Thanks for designing the program, it's a tool I'll use heavily. Show more

    Great Features!
If all you need is a piano app for the iPad, there are others out there that are free. However, if you do any "real" work with your iPad as a keyboard, take a closer look at Pianist Pro. The selling point for me is the MIDI interface capability through OSC, allowing the iPad to be used as a note entry device with Finale and Sibelius. It takes a bit of work to set it up, so read the provided documentation closely. If you want to record live, an OSC connection is never going to do the trick...it will always be late. But if you want to use Finale's speedy entry or Sibelius' step entry, Moo Cow's program works great through OSC. Think about it...a small M-Audio 25-key keyboard will set you back $125; whereas you already have an iPad and for the price of the app you can get the same functionality. Actually, my M-Audios hang up on me frequently...no problems with Moo Cow's Pianist Pro. I'd like to see an easier way to connect OSC to a Mac (or PC) and am looking forward to seeing what the new MIDI APIs in iOS 4.2 will yield with programs like this. Show more

    I think it's great!
Very fun. I'm on this app all the time. A bit pricey but it's worth it because a regular piano... Costs a lot! Love the look of the app, but I wish that when you are recording songs that you would be able to record with different sounds like piano and electric piano together, ect... Should also add more sounds! 5 stars if you do! Show more

Pianist Pro alone justified the purchase of my 64gig 3g iPad
Pianist Pro in my view is the historical marker for the first substantive transition from bulky keyboard gear, or, an acoustic piano to an ultra portable keyboard system. It works flawlessly with absolutely no key strike latency! I use a bare bones 88 key MIDI keyboard controller and the $69 Line 6 MIDI Maximizer adapter. It is that simple and that reasonable. There is far more to a piano app than a 99 cent price tag. This app is the all inclusive MIDI keyboard/digital piano/acoustic piano game changer. Incredible. Show more

    I'm in awe
Absolutely stunning UI and a deeper feature set than I ever dreamed possible. I'm bowled over that this is a $10 app and not a $30 app. Bravo to the developers, designers, everyone involved. Show more

    Great
I was worried about the price, which I'm still upset about. But it is a very nice app. :]

    Worth 10 x the price
OSC with Pianist is simply fantastic and cutting-edge. Using the Pure Data software is a little tricky and requires some configuration but the reward is great. My compliments to the MooCow people, I lost my OSC configuration with the new 1.5 version of the software, and couldn't quite remember how to regenerate the .pd script file. A tip, use the help file built into the app itself not the online version. Then it will appear in iTunes as a shared document which you can save to your desktop (right underneath your favorite DAW!). Thanks to the helpful email support, on a weekend nonetheless, I was quickly guided through the proper setup. A great sounding app as well even if you don't plan to use OSC, they must have optimized the grand piano in the new version because it sounds very very good, but that's a guess on my part.
