    Really good!
Sounds are rich, deep, resonant and full. Rivals hardware easily. If your looking for a synth with some depth, here it is.

    Whoa
Theres nothing I like more than quirky weird synths. And out of every synth app I've gotten on my iPad, this is by far my favorite. I can (and have) spent hours playing with it, due to its depth and flexibility. Thank you developers, DXi is amazing. Show more

    Very good
This is a really good app with lots of features, and unlike a lot of apps out right now, it actual works!

    Great app
Fixed the iPhone 5 support? Makes an awesome app even better!

    Looks cool but....
It crashes immediately after touching the keyboard. I hope a fix comes soon.

    Crashes on IPad 4 too
Using a IPad 4. Worked perfectly until the update. Opens up but as soon as you press a key, it crashes.

If you don't know what FM synthesis is...
...then all you need to know is you're an idiot if you don't buy this.

    VERY YES!!!
This is an outstanding app! I am a hard-core sound designer and this thing has a ton of possibilities!

    nice.
but please expand the sequencer!! it's a shame to not be able to program this thing properly in iOS.

    Awesome!
Useable, functional, virtual midi, background audio, stellar sound--no brainier. Get it!

    Great FM synth app!
I just sold my dx7 and have been missing it. :( and while this app couldn't replace it, it has been really handy in its abscence. The only thing more I could ask for would be for more control over the LFO. I love the sound when the mod wheel is just a little up but I could sure use some control over wave shape, speed, and depth to get some really dynamic FM patches. Show more

    Messes with my iPhone
The last two times I used this app, the display zoomed in by itself, and even when I closed the app, the display would not go back to normal without a hard reset. I'm afraid there might be a virus (don't take my word for it, I don't know for sure!) Show more

    Cool
I did not like this synth at first. However, I tried it again after a while last night after setting up rtpmidi and using core midi and a keyboard midi controller to control this synth. WOW, I was able to make some sweet bass! I tried to get the same sounds in-app but I just couldn't. My midi keyboard will allow me to go four octaves lower than the in app keyboard does and that has made all the difference for me. I would suggest a future update to increase the range of the in-app keyboard. I see this synth supports midi CC for cutoff and resonance, but it would be cool if maybe it were possible to midi-learn other parameters. (it might be interesting to say, use a sequencer to change waveforms or to LFO the ratio, etc., this is my first real experience with FM so I don't know). Show more

    Totally changed my mobile sound...
Recently I went completely mobile in my production, both to say that I did and also because the workflow in BeatMaker2 is so intuative (spelling error and pun intended). The sampler synth in BeatMaker 2 is incredibly lacking, with amateurish sounding melodies littering my projects. Before I tried mobile synthesizers, I found myself creating melodies in Ableton or Reason then exporting them as WAVs to BM2. I wanted a centralized production environment, trying many mobile synths on the App Store, including Addictive Synth, Animoog, and other classics. While they are good pieces of software, none stack up against DXi for my own sound. The ease of use when manipulating patches is unmatched. Different algorithms to test out on your synths? This app is like Ableton's Operator plugin, but mobile! With the included AudioCopy tool, I love and now rely on this software. However, all I ask: • Be able to hold/tie/slur/accent notes in the sequencer. • Be able to save sequencer arrangements. • Be able to export sequencer arrangements as MIDI/audio. While I am aware that you are able to hit "record" then "play" on the sequencer (as I have been doing), this would be much cleaner. These are minor requests that only pertain to assisting my own workflow. This synth is a must-have for the mobile producer. Squelching bass, buzzing leads, beautiful pads, and evolving textures... All possible with this $2 synth. I would've paid $20 with a fully fledged sequencer part (see my list above). 5/5. Show more

    My bad
While playing the DXi, the pages on my iPad flip, making it impossible or at least difficult to play live. Please look into this. Otherwise, it's a decent synth for the price. OK, I was wrong. I had my multitasking switch on. Problem solved. Show more

    Great FM Synth!
This is a crystal clear sounding 4 operator FM synth, a baby brother to the classic 6 operator Yamaha DX-7 synth. These FM synths have a distinct sound, which is very different than the typical subtractive or sample-based synth. The DXi implementation sounds great and the UI is great, especially on the iPad. The algorithm/operator editor is cool, swiping through the algorithms and then touching an operator to configure it. But to me the most fantastic part is the ADSR envelope editor, which, on iPad, highlights each stage over time as a note is played...on the one hand, it's completely obvious, but I've seen a lot of synths and never encountered it before. If Mr. Mizuhiki came up with this, he deserves some kind of prize, and hopefully he didn't patent it! Show more

    Nice lil DX
    Big sound. Easy to program.

    Great little synth
FM synthesis is a powerful tool which allows for the creation of lush, harmonically rich sounds with a very small set of oscillators. Unfortunately, compared with additive or subtractive synthesis, it's relatively impenetrable - a problem that was made much worse by the menu diving GUI in the Yamaha DX series synths. This app does a great job of creating a GUI that clearly explains the structure of the sound and what the parameters do, making FM synthesis fun for the first time I've ever experienced. There are a bunch of good little synths for the iPad, and a lot more bad ones, but this is one of the best available. To the dev, please make a pro version of this synth with midi input, and over sampling so the higher harmonics don't alias back down. I would buy it all over again. Show more

    Not there yet
This is promising app which emulates a 4-operator (aka four oscillator, but in FM you usually use at least one oscillator as a modulator) FM synthesizer like the DX-100 or TX-81Z. The sound is nice and it has a nice set of Yamaha-style algorithms (i.e. ways of wiring up your carrier and modulator oscillators), and a variety of waveforms (i.e. more than must sine waves) give you additional flexibility. Effects include a basic delay/chorus and fixed lowpass filter which can be used to cut some FM grunge for soft sounds. Audio cut and paste and a simple step sequencer are also nice. Unfortunately, the app is just not very usable because the sound keeps dropping out! Please keep working on it, because I would love to have a nice FM synth on the iPad!! Show more
