    Cool App !
Very entertaining music player. I like the customization options, for a personal experience. It also works with the mic or a line-in input, where you can see the visualizations of those sounds. The developer also responds to requests. Nice ! Show more

    Too limited
You can only analyze music files that are part of you Music Library. It doesn't work with FLAC files. Huge limitation! Better to look for a better quality product than get this one. Show more

    Great App, Great Support!
SoundView is a great app, and watching the different displays is fascinating for my clients. It’s nice to be able to show where sounds occur along the frequency spectrum. The support from Rare Works LLC is also incredible! When we had a problem with an update, they worked with us tirelessly until we got it back up and running! Show more

Pretty pictures but no useable data
Makes a nice display but there’s no way to measure what frequencies it’s displaying except on a very vague chart at the top of the page.

    Very useful in certain situations
I use this app when teaching Fourier transforms. It's also quite useful for 'casual' display of power spectra, despite its limitations. Watch a youtube video on overtone singing, for example, and pop this up while you do. It is not a professional spectrum analyzer, and isn't designed to be. It is a fun toy with some practical uses. With that in mind, it's exactly what it should be. It would be great if it had a handful of adjustments, but still very useful in its current form. Show more

    pretty worthless as an analyzer
Was looking for an inexpensive spectrum analyzer. Have to keep looking. It does show you the spectrum, but analyzing without a grid and a marker is just making a picture. The oscilloscope function does not give you a way to adjust your timebase or trigger. What was the point in putting out an app this limited? For the others that couldn’t find a way to pick your input, its in the system preferences/sound. Uses the Mac’s preferences, not the app. Show more

Good quick look at the spectrum
I’m using this app as a quick spectrum analyzer using an external mic and USB interface. It is obviously more rudimentary than apps that cost more than 10 times the price. But for a quick look, I like it. The reviews that said it should analyze a file should read the description first. Show more

Don’t be like me, read the description!
Cute App. I just assumed the app would allow one to open an audio file and analyze it but as the developer says, it only works with the built-in mic or the line-in. I fail to see the use of such an application other than for educational purposes if one can not analyze a pre-recorded file. Would certainly be much more useful if one could analyze a file rather than random background noise. Suggestions to the developer: 1) Add weighting options (A,B,Z etc..) 2) Support to analyze an existing audio file. 3) Put X/Y labels on the sepectrum and options to turn grids on/off. Show more

    Doesn’t Analyze MP3s
Thought this would be a Mac-native version of Spek, but I was wrong. Doesn’t have a way to upload media for analysis - only works with microphone and line-in audio.

    No free demo
Had to pay for this up front (OK it was only 2.99, but still…) only to find out it would not do what I was looking to do - actual RTA of an incoming audio signal with the ability to measure a particular frequency. Show more

    DON’T BUY THIS
I downloaded this because I wanted to use a eq visualizer for a video for YouTube and I regret it. It is inacurate and doesn’t even do all the things you’d expect. It doesnt even have all the fucnctions ou see in the pictures. SAVE YOUR MONEY> Show more

Waste of $ Cannot use any other audio interfaces.
Do you really trust your sound analysis to the built in Mic or Line Input?! Why can't we select any valid audio in? Terrible.

Very nice app for the price
I am a comm systems engineer and wanted a cheap spectrum analyzer to check out the spectral content of some songs. This was exactly what I was looking for. The only thing missing was the ability to select internal sources as some of the other reviews said. I decided that for the price, it wasn't worth deducting a star. That said, the displays are very nice to look at, especially the flames option of the spectrum view. The controls are basic but sufficient for zooming to the audio spectral region I want to look at. The windows are fully scalable which is nice to tile it to fit your screen. It seems very stable so far. Kudos to the developer. Show more

An audio app that can't open audio files?!
This app is a failure. I have recordings I thought I could analyze. But turns out I can't even open them with this. The app requires line in. So unless you are someone just testing external audio sources all the time, or if you feel like copying everything to another device and routing it back in - don't bother with this app. Developers at Rare Works (Rarely Works?) can code fast-fourier transform algorithms but can't code an "Open File" feature? Absurd. Show more

    Missing obvious and trivial feature.
This needs a source selector, so that you can select whatever audio your computer is playing as the source, rather than only the microphone that's hooked up to the input. This feature would be trivial to implement, so when I bought it, it didn't even occur to me that it wouldn't have this feature. If they did implement this feature, it would get five stars, but the app is crippled without it. Show more

Nice Little App for the Price
it works, i mainly wanted it for the spectrum analyzer part which comes in handy. The program had no problems using the USB mic pre connected to my MacBook Pro, very convienent. A couple suggestions would be tailor the display for audio people, meaning add the graph lines (like in the waveform view) and segregate the horizontal axis per typical audio analyzers (i.e., 20 Hz, 100 Hz, 500 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz, 8 kHz, 16 kHz, 20 kHz) so that the view is typical of most RTA and FFT systems. It can be used as is, and I do, but it would be helpful if it was a little more compliant with audio realm standards. Show more

    Great but Problems!
I love this app, surprised that there isn't more like it, the only problem I have with this app is the input. This apps current input is what ever microphone you have plugged into your computer, It needs to have an option that the input can be chosen. In the preferences just put a button that allows you to switch input from itunes or your computer and microphone. I can only give it a three without that input option but i can give a 5 with it. Useful, but could be slightly more so
Full audio spectrum analysis is a great tool to have; I only wished that this app could use the computer system sound as an input source. By the time the sound has come out through my sound system and back in through the built-in mic, most of the sound bunches up around the lower frequencies. Would like to be able to look at a more immediate analysis, but maybe that means I should invest in something more expensive. Works well with direct-in recording, in any case. Show more

    Room for Improvement
As an live engineer I love this app. I use it to isolate feedback frequencies as well as monitor recordings for later EQing. A VERY handy app for any audio engineer. Love the new full screen, but would love a new GUI that puts all three windows in the same place with slider bars to adjust view. Also, support for COREaudio devices and other plugins would be a fantastic addition. A live log of the spectrogram you can scroll through would be insanely useful as well. Overall, there is room for improvement but it is a great starting place for an inexpensive Mac native RTA. Show more
