Very helpful to a new mandolin player

I was looking for a tuner app and found this instead. It will play the notes of the strings for you, but it isn't a chromatic tuner. I quickly got over my disappointment, though, when I found that it absolutely will give me the easiest fingering for any chord with a simple spin of a wheel, and it will play it for me so I know I am getting it right. It has more complex fingerings for when I get better (someday)! It is a great tool! I have learned so much in a short time. Show more

How can you not give this a 5 star rating, this app is a MUST if you are just a beginner on the Mandolin. It's a great resource, and you not only get to see the various chords and all of their positions, but you can hear what they are supposed to sound like. Very nicely done. Show more

I had this app on my iPad for 5-6 months before I realized what a great practice tool it is. First, the tuner is perfect! Second, the chord database is pretty good. Could it be better? Sure, but not too much.we should learn to find the chords we need on the fly at some point. Third, the auto-strum is perfect for picking a chord and scaling to. Whether practicing modes or scales and riffs, it is sure nice to play against selectable chords. Finally it shows scales and modes...what more do you want! It to play itself? Show more

I'm really happy they include fingering suggestions on each chord (ie second finger for this string position, third for that one). A lot of chord listings just show you the positions without the fingerlings and this is really helpful. Haven't used the scales yet but very happy with the chords. Show more

Great App. Why can't you add the left hand option like guitar companion?

Fantastic easy to use, the chord diagram interface alone is amazing. Simple, quick, everything you need, the 'play chord' part is a great addition.

This is great for beginner pickers like myself...it's a quick way to bring up a chord or scale your working on....I use it everyday. My only complaint is the lack of the very basic major and minor scales. Show more

Can you flip the view so you can see the neck the way a right- handed player would see it, holding the mandolin?

Very helpful, nice to hear the chords and see them, better then a book!

The fingerboard is oriented for left handers and no way to change if you are right handed. Same for Guitar Companion. Also there is no way to change time so everything is 4/4 for metronome. Make these improvements and I'd give a 5! Show more

Very useful for various tunings and related chords in all positions the whole way up and down the fretboard. Was able to easily tune a new mandolin fresh out of the box with this app and was playing chords in a very short amount of time. Show more

Excellent tuner and chord demonstrator. Very handy tool for mandolin setup, learning and tuning.

Sometimes won't stop playing a note. It has a nice look but the finger placement is a little confusing. Doesn't show what fingers to use. The add at the bottom drives me nuts. This app could be really nice. It just needs some refinements. If all this is fixed I'll give a better rating. I'm using an iPad3. Show more

I am just beginning. I know a few chords and was hoping this would help me move forward. All I see are dots and numbers. There are no instructions on how to proceed or progress. The string play only on my first strum. No progressive tutorials. The fretboard is too high up on the iPad to reach naturally with my fingers. Bummed I paid for the Ad Free version. Show more
