A great synth that's easy to use
An astounding number of options in a very enjoyable package. With Audiobus support in place, Grain Science is now my go-to synth for iOS.

    Modulations. A+++++
Finally a synth easy to use, mods are easy, is a bit like symptohm mellowman , each parameter has its own modulations with exception of adsr, 2 sample oscs. Best synth for the iphone for its modulation matrix. Show more

    Grains of Awesome
Since the App Store seems to enjoy eating my previous reviews of this fine app, let me just say: Grain Science is one of the most enjoyable granular synthesizers I've ever used. It sounds fantastic, has an immediately musical workflow (a rarity in granular, I've found), and a responsive developer in Wooji Juice. If you like granular synths, or just want to get started, this is a fine choice. Show more

    Doesnt work with BT speakers
Awesome synth. Only problem is that it refuses to output sound to bluetooth speakers. I checked in both the in-app settings and in the ios settings. No way to toggle it. Please fix! Show more

I really think it is good
The sound design potential is there...the presets are rich and inspiring...my only contention I have ever had with this product is this: the scroll editing HUI isn't as efficient as it may be intended to be...you know, all these explorations into new, cool looking interfaces are delightful at first, but then after awhile they become an obstacle of efficiency. Lets face it, people loved the analog synths of yesteryear due to their immediate tweaking layout. Don't misunderstand me, this synth is just as gorgeous looking as it is sounding, but I believe the space on the pages could maybe be used more efficiently. Maybe try consolidating related elements on less pages. Maybe if you double tap a corner or something and then the interface zooms out to show a grid/mosaic of the parameter pages...kinda like how TB Stuff (or TableTop for that matter) does it Show more

    Sheer Genius!
Best named patch, ever... "One Year Dead for Tax Reasons" The sounds are spectacular. Powerful and unique. NI has nothing over this. Great work!

Requesting support for AudioBus app… Is Grain Science planning on this?

Unique sounds, elegant design, effects can be shaped over time
I have purchased most of the synthesizer apps for iPad and iPod, and this is one of my favorites. Three things make Grain Science stand out: 1. First is the type of synthesis. Most iOS synth apps simulate subtractive synthesis, shaping basic wave forms (sawtooth, square, sine, triangle) with a filter. Grain Science takes a different approach, blending sound samples. These samples can be simple (sine waves again) or complex. If you're looking for a new sound, this app can help you find it. At this price, it doesn't have to replace your other synths either. In fact, you can very easily sample your other synths and use their sounds to build new ones in Grain Science. There are several ways to get samples in, too: audiopaste; iTunes file sharing; and -- this is a really useful one -- DropBox. 2. Grain Science has a full suite of powerful effects. But so do other synth apps. What makes these effects different? In one word: TIME. The strength and texture of Grain Science's effects can be shaped over the course of a single note, so that (for example) the effect starts out soft and then builds...or...wobbles...or softens. This makes the sounds more interesting to listen to. 3. The Grain Science interface is intuitive and elegant. Unlike most synths, it shows what you are doing graphically as well as numerically. And you can change the parameters by touching the graph, as well as the dials. It's also the most elegant-looking synth on my iPod and iPad. One last note about the iPod/iPhone version: it's wonderful to have this much synth power in my coat pocket, where I can whip it out during my lunch break. To get started, though, you need to swipe the mini keyboard down and out of the way. This will reveal the app's control panels. The latest version has a toggled sustain mode that is particularly useful for the iPod/iPhone version, because you can set notes to play while you tinker with the sounds. Show more

Would love FM synthesis in app
Great app. The only thing I would love to see is an option for FM synthesis as a blend mode, in addition to AM and PMW. This would enable a ton of possibilities if you could modulate grain unit 1 with the frequency of grain unit 2. You could probably use the existing octave, tune, and blend amount knobs for the modulation. You would just need to add the engine. Or you could add a knob or two next to blend mode selector when you select FM mode. Just a thought, but I think it would add even more musical possibilities! Thank you for the great synth. Show more

    superb
oh this is one of good ones... very expressive possibilities... spend a little time tweaking and the textures can be breath taking... oh if mr. varese had this in his arsenal what thunderous sounds could he have made. Show more

    Amazing
Exactly what I've been looking for to add some custom ambience to my songs. Extremely easy to use and yet so incredibly deep. Must have app for any iOS musician.

    Yea
First of- I want to make music I don't care to become an expert at obscure synth interface interfacing. I have purchased so many apps that make the path to usage so esoteric...so frustrating. The interface here is wonderfully intuitive. And the sound, wow! That's what got me to take another chance. I went to the website and listened to samples. Such depth, substance, diversity and fluidity. Finally!:) Great support too! Thank you! Show more

    Simply Amazing
It is clean, organized, functional, and sounds simply amazing. Everything just works. No crashing, no sticking of notes. Just amazing!

    Fantastic!
Hidden behind Grain Science's decptively simple interface is the fact that just about every major parameter has its own LFO. I can't stress how powerful this is for adding animation to your sounds! Show more

    Great for drone sounds
I really enjoy droney types of sounds, a la Trent Reznor, etc. Grain Science lets me create my own. I've spent hours on this in the last two days and am having a blast creating backing soundscapes to my tracks. $10 is a no-brainer for an app like this! Show more

    Buggy?
Had some initial issues when playing the default preset... popping in the audio and a crash... but subsequently playing with some of the other presets I have not had the same issues. I know granular synthesis can be CPU intensive, and I'm getting some cool sounds out of it... So I'll delay passing full judgment until I've had a bit more time with it. Show more

    iPhone 4s
This is a great app. At first I thought it wasn't working correctly, you can only see half of the function tab on the screen. But you need to swipe down the mini-keyboard to get to the functions. Show more

    Doesn't fit iPhone screen
Waste of money. It doesn't fit the screen. You cannot switch to anything. I can see half of 4 buttons in the top screen but I can't press on them. This is not ready yet :( Show more
