    World scale
Long awaiting such precision, to be matched only with the 11 3arabat Kanun, 3oud and violin. True to the soul of maquamat, beats any conventional keyboard, and most of all easy to use. Good job Fadi Hardan Show more

Great app! Very useful for learning and as a teaching aid for byzantine music. Hopefully more sounds are added in the future.

Great for Byzantine scales and Arabic scales
This app is a great aid for anyone teaching and learning Byzantine music. It has all the scales preloaded. I will definitely use it to help teach... And maybe I'll finally learn the correct way to sing Soft Chromatic :) Show more

WorldScales has potential, but version 1.0.0 needs work
For learning about and demonstrating different tunings, it is filling a needed niche for iPad apps. Hopefully, this is a work in progress, because with a few tweaks (some major and some minor-- pardon the pun) it could be a very strong app. TUNINGS/SCALES: WS works as described and is pretty intuitive. 12 knobs allow you to tune the notes within an octave. Change the root key shifts the values on the knobs respectively. It also allows you to set frequency ratios (e.g., the interval of a 5th can be a 2:3 ratio of frequencies, a Major 3rd can be a 4:5 ratio). You have to choose the note you are setting the ratio for, but it can be a little unclear which note you are tuning with this method. It always brings up "2/3" as the default ratio, even if you are tuning a different note of the scale. So it might be nice if it used a few other JUST intonation intervals for other notes besides the 5th. SOUNDS: There are a few useable sounds in the included list. Some of the samples are a bit rough in terms of playability. Some samples have too much attack for melodic playing, or there aren't enough multi-samples across the keyboard, so high or low-notes sound stretched too far. The piano sound uses octaves instead of single notes. There is quite a bit of aliasing on some samples when you play very high on the keyboard (especially the synth waves). I think the samples/sounds is the aspect of WS that needs the most improvement. USER INTERFACE: The interface is pretty logical and simple. Little arrows on the sides of the root key and transpose parameters blend in with the background and are difficult to see. Some buttons require you being very accurate with your tap. But the overall set up is pretty clear. SCREEN KEYBOARD The keyboard is only good for auditioning the scales. Changing ranges is clunky, requiring that you press the arrows on either end and it shifts the keyboard by only a few keys. For now, expect to play the app with a MIDI keyboard. I'd love to see WS's screen keyboard evolve in future versions so that playing is more functional and shifting ranges is more fluid. It would be a much better playing experience if it went in the direction of Animoog or Garageband's keyboard. But any improvements would be welcome. VALUE If I knew the app was going to get better, I'd say $4.99 is a ok price. But honestly, I'd have been happier with this app if it was in the $1 to $2 range at this stage. If the samples were better, it would be easier to recommend. Show more

Worth more than it costs, by a huge margin.
I've been waiting for something like this for a long time. I'm learning Byzantine chant, and the ability to have appropriately tuned scales to practice with, ison to play as I practice pieces, with keys labelled with the solfege. I'm loving this and I've barely started with it. Show more

THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR ALL MY LIFE :)
My name is Joe Kandalaft, Lebanese singer and keyboardist. I just got what I have been waiting for all my life, I really can't find the words to describe how amazing this app is. Every person who loves Arabic music should get it, and for the person who created it I say: ENTA MALAK "You are a king". Show more
