    Brilliant App!
I learned all the notes in an hour. Whatever system they use, it works wonders! Worth every penny!!

    Great App!
I am learning to play the piano and have been using this app to learn to sight read notes. It is extremely helpful and intuitive to use. I'd highly recommend it for anyone wanting to learn to sight read music or improve their abilities. Show more

    Fantastic Tool
Unbelievably good too lol for developing the nuances of sight reading beyond the basics.

    Best app for sightreading
This app is amazing if you want to learn to sightread. This would be even better with some rhythm exercises.

Pretty handy to learn to read music without your instrument
I really prefer to play by ear as it is better suited for campfire jams and the like so I have not spent much time trying to read music. However, sometimes there are tunes that are difficult to pick up by ear so I occasionally, and painfully try to read the sheet music. I usually just try to listen and read enough until I memorise the tune. Although I still choose memory and playing by ear, over the past month or so I have gotten quite a bit better at reading music as a result of this app. I like this software because I can learn while I am not playing an instrument (on a plane, bus, etc). Also, I can choose modes with all sorts of sharps or flats that I do not regularly play which helps me absorb reading in keys I rarely play. This app was money well spent, as is the "Ear Trainer" app made by the same company. Show more

Great app for practicing sight reading and chord recognition
It is highly customizable and you can use it with your digital piano. I wish they had the metronome functionality do enforce steady sight reading. Nice app nevertheless.

    Good concept, BUT....
I am updating this review as I have been using the app for a while simply because I cannot find anything better....and that's not a good thing as the app has its flaws that make the drills too easy....despite the few glitches I came a cross before, I don't find them that distracting when they pop up. No the major flaw in this app is the very limited number of chords when you run a drill....flashing the same cords over and over at you.seems kind of useless.....the drills should include more than the eight we,are, given to work With Show more

Great app for a beginning/recovering sightreader.
I got the free version of this and within 24 hours, I could see how useful this would be to me, so I've just purchased the paid version. Although I took an ear-training class in college, I'm way better at playing by ear and allowed my never-fantastic sight-reading skills to atrophy. I'm returning to music after about 7 years hiatus and am wanting to turn reading music into a skill set as strong as that of just being able to pick up a (literary) book and read it... I'm excited to be able to level up my musicianship with the help of your great app. I downloaded about 30 different note-practicing apps, and am slowly removing the ones that don't seem to be as useful to me. Your app really stands out as a keeper; it's really robust in the free version -- there are a lot of ways to use this app if you're serious about wanting to improve sight reading and playing. I was really excited to see that (for iPhones 5s and newer) it includes an option to play a practical, human-powered instrument into the microphone. At first I thought the microphone wasn't responding, but then I realized you have to play a sustained note long enough for the microphone to register the note you're playing. Once I started to find the rhythm, it started to register the notes more smoothly and quickly. Since I'm just learning to sight-read on my alto instrument, I don't mind it being a little slower. On my soprano, it can get a little tedious to hold shrill notes for that length of time. For a quicker passage through the exercises, note by note, it's more expedient to use the built-in, touch-screen keyboard within the app itself (and with my headphones in, I don't have to worry about terrifying the neighborhood cats and dogs). I haven't tried to plug in any midi instruments as of yet. I liked what I saw of your ear training app as well, though I wish it had the microphone option that this app has. I'm really looking forward to exploring all the ways the paid version will help me to expand my skills. In just 24 hours, I've retrieved some of my long-neglected sightreading powers from the mists of the past, and have learned several other things for the first time ever. Thank you, thank you! Also, as a sometime Celphone-game-addicted person, it's nice to be able to replace solitaire or some of the other something-to-do-with-my-hands-while-I've-got-a-few-moments [or hours] games I used to play on my phone, and instead play around with something that enriches my quality of life when I'm not on the phone. Kudos and much appreciation for making such a strong app. Wonderful work. Show more

    A Big Help To Me
I would have given Note Trainer 5 stars except for one issue. That issue is that in order to use the advertised MIDI interface, you have to separately buy a Lightening to USB camera adapter which costs $29. I did not know this until the developer explained it to me when I asked him why it wasn't working. He said that he would add the notice of the need of the adapter in future advertisements of the Note Trainer product. Now that I have the adapter, the application works nicely as advertised. There are no bugs in it that I have noticed. It really does help me learn to sight read music more quickly, and in a fun way. It performs well on both my iPad and iPhone. Show more

Great app! Get it, and use it!
This app gets you reading music very quickly... while playing a game. Once you learn to read notes, you can move on to more difficult challenges, by reading minor and major triads, minor and major 6s, minor, dominant and major 7s, inversions, and all of the above in different keys. I've been playing at least twice a day (15 minute sessions), and the progress is hard to believe. Thank you, Note Trainer! Show more

Excellent for Notes to Keyboard connection
With a MIDI keyboard this app is perfect for drilling your note to keyboard connection. The fundamental skill you need to see notes and know immediately where to place your hands on the keyboard. This is the main reason to get this app. You can also use it without a keyboard - where you just "name" the note by pressing a button on the screen but what you'll soon find out is that "naming" notes is the really long tedious and frustrating way around to reading music. So once again - the main reason to get this app is to hook it up to a keyboard and drill your note to key connection. It drills single notes as well as Major, minor and 7th chords - in all inversions. It drills notes /chords by key signature, so you can practice reading a particular key signature for a piece you're working on. I recommend drilling root chords in C Major first until you're solid - then add complexity afterwards. This simple drill will set you up for everything that you may do afterwards. The notes/chords are presented on a Grand Staff in sets of 30, 60 or 90 and scores you at the end. Four Stars: I only gave it 4 stars because the menus/settings interface are a bit clunky. They could be more clear and straight forward. Almost any other app has a more elegant interface. But the core interface for drilling notes/chords is solid. The other thing I wish this app could do is drill musical versions of related notes/chords. Chords that are normally related like I IV V or or I ii V - might also be interesting if it could drill different types of voicing and interval exercises. It would be great if we had an option to create our own drills! Any great app! Could be improved - but what it does it does well. Show more

Things I wish could find in a theory app
As a music theory student I was hoping this app would be more advanced, but I'm not surprised I haven't found what I'm looking for. So far this is the best app I've come across. However, Two things would make it better in my opinion: open voicing and more choices for answers. Most of the time they're a dead giveaway. If not more options for answers maybe a setting where you can type in your own answer? There's a lot more I personally would like to see upgraded (I.e: Roman numeral analysis, secondary dominants, modulation, etc...) but maybe that's too much to ask for in an app, at least for now. Great refresher course
I use to sing, this has been an easy way to relearn how to read music again. I'm learning how to play the guitar and this helps so much. Very pleased with this app. Show more
