    Needs some TLC
Great percussion app, but needs MIDI implementation. Unfortunately this is unlikely to happen as it would appear to have been abandoned by the developer.....shame

Not just a toy. Lots of potential
Sure it's fun to turn any surface into an instrument but Impaktor also works great with drum triggers! I use my iPhone on a mount and a drum trigger live on stage and it works great. My iPhone is on a mount within reach so I can change presets on the fly. It takes some work but with a little ingenuity, it can be very useful. I do have a few suggestions for the developer; sensitivity is a necessary setting which you have included but just as crucial for drum triggers is retrigger and threshold. This would give users the ability to properly calibrate a drum trigger. Also an audio import function seems like a no brainer to me. We want to play our own sounds too. Adding these features would be expand the demographic of Impaktor from novelty to professional application. Show more

    Wow unbelievable in everyway
This was one of the first apps that I considered truely useable from a musicians stand point. Stable and well written and just fun to use here and there. Thanks guys. Show more

    BeepStreet abandons apps. Beware
I was a long time fan of their apps but my go to sequencer, made by BeepStreet, iSequence was abandoned by them. I had many songs on this and bought every add on pack. Then one day it won't work. It won't rotate, and doesn't fit on my iOS 7+ devices. Certainly not on iOS 9. They abandoned the app. No updates, and no longer offer it. All without warning. So I've lost all my work and money from the sound packs. And I'm sad that my favorite sequencer app is gone. No longer functional. Why?!? Oh well I'll never buy another BeepStreet app. I recommend you dont either. Show more

Latency on iPad Air 2 iOS 8.4
This app shows lots of potential and works fairly well on my iPhone. On the iPad Air 2 the latency makes it unusable. There must be some kind of new bug. Fun but this issue puts a damper on things. Still not fixed under iOS 8.4. Shame on Apple for breaking this developer's app on the iPad Air 2 built in mic. Show more

    Horrible
This app is useless. I am using an iPad Air 2. All I get are repeats and repeats. Triggers when nothing is happening. Multiple triggers instead of clean sound. This is the worst music app I've ever used. Adjusting Mic sensitivity does nothing. Sounds like crud Show more

Awesome, but with a tiny issue!
I have Impaktor for a long time. First bought it on my iphone and had so much fun!!! I was amazed how fast it picked all my taps, and how realistic some synth presets sounded, just like a real drum. Currently I have a little but an issue, on iPad Air 2 there is a lag when using the integrated mic. I don't know if it is because the two mics trying to pick the taps or just they have lag by default. Drumming fast is impossible, because the lag is long enough to confuse me and make mistakes. Strangely using the headset's mic introduces no lag at all, also the same version on my iphone has no lag on either integrated or headset mics. So please BEEP, check what causes the issue, try to use only one of the mics or fix the lag Thanks for this awesome app! Show more

    Truly MAGNIFICENT!!!
I have had this app for quite awhile, over a year now, and it just dawned on me that I have never given it the props that it so absolutely deserves. Anyone that loves music will love this app, not just percussionists. From adults that are musical, down to my toddler-aged son, this app is so organic and intuitive that it is nearly impossible not to come up with some amazing sounds on it, whether you're an amateur or a pro. I've played guitar, keys, and vocals for over 20 years, and I'm telling you, this is easily one of the top 5 music apps in the entire App Store. Trust a brother...& Tap on! *On a related note, I also highly recommend another app made by these same developers, called Sunrizer Synth. It is also incredibly unique and full of magical possibilities. Show more

    Very fun and inspiring
I've had this app a while and I never thought to write a review for it til now. As a multi-instrumentalist it's not one I use every day, but when I want to add some really cool organic sounding rhythms or rhythmic techno orchestrations to a song, this fits the bill amazingly well, The app really makes your ipad an expressive rhythm instrument, or more accurately it make everything in your room an instrument. Very original and a great app Show more

    Terrific
I have to say this app is really great. It sounds great too. It's musical and very useful. You can create just about any type of percussion you want. Make loops and record live who them. I've had this app for a while and it just gets better. Highly recommended for musicians who want some nice sounds and layers to work with that are interesting and new. In my opinion the results are usable in final mixes. Show more

Really cool - but, multitrack export plz?
Love this app. Great fun synthesizing drums and making beat sketches on the go. Only thing missing is a multi track export (wav files for each channel). Let me be able to use this stuff better in my big studio setup! Show more

    Changing my previous review
I've decided to change my previous review for the iOS7 app after receiving some further information. I initally wrote a negative review due to the fact that the previous version of Impaktor was non-functional in iOS8. After placing an e-mail to the vendor, I quickly received a reply stating that they had in fact fixed the issue and submitted an update to Apple, but it hadn't been put up in the App Store. Since I'm sure there were hundreds of other apps in the queue that needed to be approved in anticipation of iOS8, I can't very well blame the creators of Impaktor for the traffic jam at the App Store approval process. I'm giving this a 3.5 stars for the Impaktor drum synth, and 4 stars for the excellent customer service at BeepStreet. Show more

    Ouch! My Jaw.
I've spent $300+ on music apps this past few months. There are some very impressive, rich sounding, and beautifully developed apps in this store. This app however, caused my jaw to unhinge, and plummet down with enough force to break through 2 levels of concrete, ending up in the basement. I had seen this app floating in the store before, and dismissed it as just another silly toy. I was so wrong. 1st: This is no crappy pre-recorded sample player with pads. This is a drum synthesizer, and a RICH SOUNDING ONE at that. I later discovered it's made by the same guys that brought us the Sunrizer Synth, it all made sense then. 2nd: There are no pads or keys, whaaaaaa? (Insert shocked minion here.) You tap or bang whatever surface you want and the microphone picks it up. The best part about this, is that the acoustics and intensity of the sounds you produce when tapping translate directly to expression in the synthesized drums. I have both studio monitor headphones, and audiophile reference headphones. When recorded correctly, I almost can't tell the difference between some of these synthesized instruments, and real ones. This is when I lost my jaw. I miss it very much, eating soup is very awkward now. 3rd: You can tweak the sound. That should be a good enough sentence for my third point but some advanced users may argue that there aren't enough options. While I disagree, I present to you Audiobus, and its popular effects slot, in which you can use other apps to modify the sound 'till your heart's content or you bleed out through your ears. 4th: I don't need a fourth point, I don't have jaw, I'm very much in pain, and you expect too much of me. Just buy the app so we all look alike and the developers can afford my lawsuit. Show more

Works Great. Needs a couple of thingsā€¦.
This works better than I expected, and has excellent sounds. I would love to use it for live performance, BUT it needs a couple of features for that. - MIDI clock out (and in if possible) so users can sync the loop tempo with other hardware - background audio support (so users can switch to other apps for stuff while the audio keeps going) Highly recommended, though. Best app I've ever downloaded!
Very low/no latency time. I like it best when I put my phone on a paperback book and use Bic pens as sticks. The only constructive thing I have to say is that I wish it had a microphone selection option, so you can use iphone headphones with the mic built in to the cable, and still select the microphone on the phone itself. Otherwise, I just use over ear headphones and I 'm happy as a clam. Show more

    Be prepared
This is a great app, but be prepared to not have an idea how to work it lol... I think your skills need to be higher than the average person!! But I still recommend it:)) Show more

    Unique, useful, awesome.
Impaktor is a great example of what iOS music is all about. It's part synthesizer, part drum app, and part noise machine. The "input" here is you tapping your finger on a desk, which registers as a synthesized "note" in the form of a drum beat, plastic pipe noise, or whichever of the several dozen presets you choose. You can create loops or play with AudioBus, and the synthesized rhythms have a human element to them because every hit is different and unique. You can even try tapping with your fingernail, a pen, or other object to see how that affects the output. The resulting sounds are recording-level quality, and unlike anything else in other apps. These range from 909 bass drums to snares to bizarre synthesized notes. My only gripe is that I wanted more! I would love some more hi-hat and cymbal sounds so that I can tap out rhythms like an actual drum kit. But nevertheless, great effort from BeepStreet and definitely worth a look. Show more

    Fantastic
Just Fantastic, No words to describe it. Just Buy it. Thanks BeepStreet. I was waiting for this for a long time.

    Wow'd a skeptic...
I was leery about the sensitivity and the latency, when I read the description of this app. As drummer of 30+ years playing many different genres, I went into this thinking there was no way this app could accurately pick up fast 32nd note intricate drum patterns.( I mean, it took Roland 15 or so years before the vdrums triggering was at a usable level)...I was definitely wrong. I could go on for days about how good this app is, but all you have to do is read some of the reviews. It really is as good as everyone makes it sound. There are only a couple apps that I can truly say are must haves as far as music production, gigging, etc. This is definitely one of them. Show more
