It has promise but fails even its basic functions.
I wanted software that can convert MIDI into tabulature so I can easily learn my electronic compositions on guitar. This seemed like it fit the bill though it was a bit expensive ($20 compared to some amazing and full functional apps that are found for $5 or less.) Here are the problems: * Import function has intermittent problems. For the most part it will not import MIDI properly and just shows a blank screen. * When import is sucessful it creates tabs that make no sense to play. It put a riff I imported all spread out on one string instead of utilizing the others so you can play it in one position. * Anything complex becomes a jumbled mess in some odd tuning. Apparently I need to tune my guitar to A# and add on 10 more frets. * The export to PDF function piles all the measures on top of each other. The ASCII export gave me a blank document. I lost a few hours fiddling with this program and trying to get it to work. I guess it is best to just do it the old fashioned way. Show more

    Not bad for quick notation...
This app is not bad for quick notation, but falls very short for publication and crashes frequently on my recent model MacBook Air running 10.9. To be fair, it also crashed frequently prior to the update to Mavericks. Copy and paste operations cause crashes every time. Anything related to printing also seems to mess things up. However, songs are easy to set up and entering notation is quick and (usually) painless. There appears to be no support for preventing staff breaks during printing (i.e., the clef staff may appear at the bottom of one page while the tab staff appears at the top of another — boooo). Also, there is currently no support for lyrics. This could be a deal-breaker for some. Finally, I’d like very much to see some keyboard shortcut for entering chords that have been previously defined. I love this app!
I got this app a few days ago and am really enjoying it. I have started tabbing out some of my own material and will also be tabbing out things for students. One of the coolest things that has happened, as a result of this app, is that my eight year old son is more willing to try and learn harder things on the bass. This helps him see and hear what the part is and he is then able to practice along. He went from not wanting to learn a song because the parts were difficult to asking to work on it, on his own. This thing is loaded with great features and I am sure it will have many more in future updates. This is $20 very well spent! Show more

    A Complex Process Made Simple
This software has greatly helped me to quickly and professionaly reproduce the tabs which my guitar teacher writes out on paper. As a result, it has added clarity and preciseness to my practice times. In addition, I received congenial support whenever I asked the programmer a couple of questions about the software. It sounds like some great updates are in the works (like being able to remove the staff-based notation to leave just the tabs). Show more

    Great at what it does
After using this app for a few hours, I can say I'm glad I spent the money. It's great for making tabs and then using it to practice. I especially like how easy it is to edit notes that you have already entered. You can change the duration or position of each note (or a section of notes) with just one button. You can also transpose, and copy/paste sections easily. The practice options are nice - you can adjust the speed and automatically loop it, increasing the speed each time. As it's a new app, it's missing a few features - some more noticeable than others. The biggest drawback for me is that you can only enter notes in tablature. Even though there is a staff right there above it, you can't enter notes there or select them for editing. Also, when you print, you can only print staff and tabs together. There is no way to print only one or the other. I submitted both of these things to the developer, who said that the printing is a high priority, but while entering notes on the staff is on the list of things to do, it is a low priority. They may also add MIDI functionality at some point, but probably not for a while. There are a few bugs, which I'm sure will be worked out soon, and don't really cause all that much trouble - I couldn't get all of the notations to show up, and every once in a while when I resize the window, the little red bar that follows the music skips down to the next line as if the window were still smaller (simply resizing the window a little bit solves this problem). Overall, a great app that is worth the price, especially with the additional features and options that will hopefully be added soon. Show more
