Still works in 2020 in Mojave!
Love this little tuner. The code must be fairly clean as it hasn't been updateed in 7 years yet still works in 10.14.6 without any performance issues that I can tell. The GUI is still slick looking 7 years on. It would be cool if the tuner could be scaled, but it's perfect the way it is. Looks fantastic on a 4k monitor! It sits quitely in my menu bar until it's time to teach guitar over Zoom. And I find myself practicing more at my Mac with headphones on so I probably get more use out of it now than I did five years ago. Here's hoping that Agile recompile the code for Apple Silicon along with Guitar Toolkit, which is still one of the best teacher's assistants on iOS. Show more

    Works alright but not great
Hardly ever see's both of the E strings. The meter is registering, but rarely does it give a tuning measurement. Makes this app quite useless in practical applications, and is EXTREMELY frustrating to intonate with. Show more

    No longer works
On macOS Catalina it's impossible to configure a mic input. This software hasn't been updated for years. Do not purchase.

How to fix the problems with SteadyTune
UPDATE: With 3 monitors, it turns out SteadyTune will only load and work from the primary monitor, and that was why I couldn't invoke it from the other monitors. Plus, the app is 5 years old. Come on, Devs! This is a great tuner, so update it. Original review: Like many people, I too had problems getting SteadyTune to work correctly. I’m using macOS Mojave, running 3 monitors each with multiple screens. There are two problems that I and other people have encountered: 1) can’t see the menubar icon, and 2) the tuner window doesn’t load. Problem 1: apparently SteadyTune issn’t compatible with Mojave’s dark mode. Look closely and you’ll see it. It become visible when you click it. Problem 2: I solved the tuner window not showing up problem by simply closing and reopening the app until it loaded. Hopefully this information will be helpful to others. I contacted tech support three times and never received a reply, which is a shame because SteadyTune is really a fantastic tuner. I’ll give 5 stars when the app becomes compatible with dark mode and is more consistent when loading. Show more

    Mr.
Junk. Never worked right from the start. Keeps having me tighten or loosen strings until they want to snap or fall off. Don’t even know if I can get my money back. Show more

Gotta use common sense with this app!
I am an elementary choral director and my students just love turning that green light on! There have been times that I have been stumped during classtime, with not getting a reading, but readjusting the level and quality inputs always saves the day! I can’t remember the exact amount, but I did buy a couple of tuners and downloaded some free ones, but this “steady tune” app out classed them all, hands down! Show more

Refund please- this isnt what I need
I understood it would play the notes so I am sure I match the correct sound, this was a waste of money, I want my money back.

    Doesn’t follow reference tune
Set the reference tune (A4, which it displays as simply “A” in the lower left) to 441. It confirms that it’s set to that. But the visual tuner continues to act like A4 is 440. So it simply won’t work for differing values of A4. Also, you can’t move the tuner window, its tied directly to the icon at the top of the desktop and can’t be moved or resized. Finally, it seems jumpy, I compared it to a tuner I’ve been using on my phone and it’s more easily confused by voice. It’s not as sensitive and accurate. Show more

    Please add 432 reference pitch!
The ability to simply set the reference pitch manually would be an even better option. EDIT: this can be done, but the pop-up w/presets makes it a bit less intuitive. Always write your review after you’ve played around w/the app for longer than 5 minutes! Show more

    The great houdini of tuners
At first I thought I got ripped off because it wouldnt open. It does open, but i use a dark heme on my mac, so I didnt see the icon at top at first (duh me). So far it is working great. I havent tried to use it to intonate yet, but it has many options and was well worth the $7. Im giving it 4 stars for now but if it works well for intonating my gear, i will give it a five. If you're having issues, make sure and select your instrument. It seems they have an algo that takes some slight buzz into account (both hiss and fret). Great job on this though - thanks guys! One feature I'd recommend for guitar is 6 string in drop C tuning as its being used widely in metalcore - I do love all the options you have for 7 string (those are useful to me as well), but only standard tuning for 6 string is a bummer, although the 'Every Note' option is very useful. Good design, simple, and it works
This tuner looks great and it works as advertised. I own also own a Korg Sledgehammer Pro and a few Snarks. The Korg is more accurate than the Snarks. I did a quick test tuning my acoustic and SteadyTune is as accurate as the Korg, a pleasant surprise. My only complaints are also suggestions. First, In dark mode, the menu bar icon is barely visible. To the developers, please fix soon…I’m pretty sure a lot of us are using Dark Mode on our Macs. Second, it would nice to be able to detach the app window so I can move it to another screen while using a dual monitor setup. Show more

    Doesn’t Work With Bass
App is useless for bass. Only detects the G string every once in a while. “No Notes Detected” for the E, A, D strings. Volume is all the way up on the app. I’m using it with Apogee Duet 2. Waste of money. Bass players beware. Show more

    I Can’t Open This App.
It opened the first time and then won’t again. I will change my rating if someone can help me make it work.

The easiest way to say in tune around a Mac
Click the menu bar icon, tune your instrument and play. Perfect for those of us stuck at our computers most of the day anyway.
