    EQ request
Sound quality is excellent and it works with Dragonfly. I’d like the ability to adjust L and R EQ indepentently. I have modestly reduced high frequency perception in one ear, easily solved with EQ. Audioforge App has this but sound quality isn’t as good as Onkyo. Show more

Good but needs polish and bug fixes
The app has a great set of features and is easy to use. Volume seems lower than other apps with same source. The music stops as expected when removing Apple AirPods Pro from ears but has difficulty resuming once they are put back and you press the button on the pods to start playback again. Sometimes when trying to resume with the app in this situation it seems stuck. The play/pause button doesn’t update and toggle when pressed and the app must be force closed and reopened to resume playback. iPhone 11 Pro Max all updates installed. Show more

    buyer beware
If you are not using itunes (i.e. you have moved to music) and you are planning to load a large number of flac or other uncompressed music files look for other players. If you do not not have a large iCloud drive to hold the fat uncompressed flac files then look for another player. Finally, if you are looking for application support then look for another player. I have found no e-mail address, no iphone and no FAQs for the app. The instructions to transfer files into your iphone assume that you have itunes. I guess Onkyo realized that music was quite different from itunes and added a file browser to download stuff from the iCloud drive. This works – but only partially. After a few downloads the application ceases to download and the only way to continue is to restart the iphone. When files are not completely downloaded or they cease to respond the app aborts. I do appreciate a few things particularly the possibility to see music organized by either composer or genre. And then, of course, you must be sure to have organized your metadata correctly. Used to be great. Now very buggy.
Really was a great app, but navigation is now impossible. Many screens are dead ends. Once you open them, the only way to get out is to reset your phone. What happened to the back button? Show more

Not compatible any more with Soundroid Typhoon DAC
Used to love this app (paid for upgrade BTW) for all my flac/DSD tracks. BUT now with last update I find it is no longer compatible with my Soundroid Typhoon DAC. Everything downsamples to 44.1kHz. What happened???? Show more

    Hi end player
This is a true high end player and will play back 24/192 and DSD (DoP) and will play back FLAC and other lossless formats. The EQ is DSP and works very well. Turn your iPhone or iPad into a streamer. I use the EQ to cut the glare due to glass in my car. Show more

Love this app! Only one thing will make it better.
I love this app! I only wish it had the option to show the bitrate of the file. Like 24bit/96khz. I have many hdcds that we’re converted into flac using dBpoweramp and the hdcd codec. I would like to be able to see what bitrate the file is playing so I know its playing correctly! Thanks for such a great product! Edit: in the latest iOS version, the app stopped working with my 2016 Toyota Camry. It will not connect at all. Hope this gets fixed. Had to start using VOX instead. Show more

Will Do Until Official Apple Support
[Updated 14 May, 2020 - This app used to support the Onkyo music store, which essentially paid for the music player app support and development. The music store is gone (in the USA) but the app is still here. Thank you Onkyo. I’ve tried six other “HD” or High Resolution players and the Onkyo player remains the best I have found.] Onkyo works well if one has audio files not (yet?) supported by Apple. It handles everything I’ve thrown at it (mostly FLAC, which Apple does not support and likely won’t) I was loving VOX, still do, but I do not like “subscriptions;” a model they have adopted for many essential features. I would rather follow the Onkyo model, which is pay once to access “High Definition” encodings. There are some things about Onkyo that bother me, but it is the dark UI design and my inability to see its on-screen widgets without my glasses. But that’s my problem so I won’t ding the app. Good enough to call good stuff. Enjoy the show. Show more

I paid for this app, less than a year it’s free! Got ripped off!! What next!
Use to be great app, in less than a year it’s not so good anymore. NOW added ads!!!!! I paid for this less then a year ago because I did want ads. How about a refund! Would be a better app without the ads and higher number off starts. Guess they are okay being average. Show more

Almost there, HD version on iPad needed
I’m a user of Audioquest dragonfly and ifi iDSD black label series. If you have a DAC like that can be used on iPhone or iPad, this is the right app that has the most consistent DoP function you need to unlock the full potential of your device. That is the reason I choose to pay for this app over some of other free alternatives out there. The user experience on my phone is just among the best. However, Dear Onkyo developer and PM, I think it is time for you to consider adding an upscaled HD version of this app to iPad. The UI is just horrible to use on iPad, especially on 12.9in pro version when it won’t work with split windows. It just doesn’t scale very well and doesn’t turn to landscape view with the default upscale on iPad OS. You know if you connect a DAC on an iPad, it is very inconvenient to use a app without a landscape view. Hope this give you an idea what to work with. Many THANKS Show more

    Do not pay
This app is a music player. And it does that. My issue is quite often I’ll leave the app and it will completely reset the app and stop the music. Sometimes all I have to do is swipe up and it acts like I closed the app. Can’t recommend anyone ever spend money on this. Show more

    Siri issues.
I ask Siri to play music and it pauses. I ask Siri to pause music and it plays. Can you sort it out, please?

    Was 5 stars until ads
What is going on here?? Please remove the ads for the customers who already paid $9.99. No way to contact support?? UPDATE 12-15-2019: iOS 12.4.3 and 12.4.4 on iPhone 6/6 Plus will not connect DAC’s! Don’t update your iOS! Apple, please fix this! Below is the previous 5-star review before the ads. Excellent sound quality. Bought the HD Player pack as well for my hi res FLAC files. I now use an AudioQuest Dragonfly Red USB DAC instead of the headphone jack. Sounds much better that way. The app’s real-time DSD conversion feature is great for even better sound. My CD rips loaded onto the phone through iTunes are there automatically and sound great. Easy to drag my FLAC files through iTunes into the app. The DAC lights up with the right colors so I know the app is sending the right sample rates. Album artwork is large and unobstructed and the black background is nice. The only glitch is sometimes the sound cuts out for a second when playing the FLAC hi-res files. I believe others have said this is an iPhone issue and not an issue with the app. Just an FYI: If you rip your CD’s, make sure to do lossless 44.1/16 rips if you want the best sound. I used the AIFF format. Initially I had ripped to 48/24 FLAC for my computer then converted to AIFF 48/24 for my phone. Some say 48/24 is somehow better, some say no difference except you take up more space, and others say you introduce undesired results with the sound quality. I can tell you that the last two are absolutely true, so stick to 44.1/16 for that CD collection. Show more

    Middle management strikes again
This is a solid piece of software ruined by idiotic middle management who, looking for a feather in their cap, decide to add ads and ruin an otherwise perfectly useful product. I know the engineers didn’t do that. I, like many people, hate ads and will not tolerate them. I would be willing to pay a few dollars to remove them. But $10 in an in-app purchase that can’t even be shared? Absolutely not. Onkyo burns good will treating their customers this way while the original app had built good will. I own Onkyo hardware but when a company “pulls a Sony” I not only refuse to give them my money with future products, I become an evangelist against them. So, middle managers, do the math: you have received no payment from me, I block ads, and now I refuse to buy your product and persuade others not to as well. That looks like a loss to me. Show more

    No Gapless Playback????
Seriously guys, at $10 for the full app you’d think this app would have that BASIC capability, but it doesn’t. Ruins the experience for some of my best music. It’s a shame, because in every other respect, this is a fine app. But no gapless? Disappointed! Show more

Excellent, but please update for iOS 13 and add CarPlay
10/3/19: please update to provide support for iOS 13. Add support for CarPlay and iPad, too. This is the BEST app for playing high resolution music; please please please make it easier to use in the car and on iPad! 11/5/18: still no iPad UI. Also, needs to be updated for iPhone XS Max compatibility. The artist/album/playlist buttons at the bottom of the screen are now inaccessible. 11/22/17: strange that Onkyo updates the UI but didn’t include iPhone X support. 11/21/17: Still no UI for iPad, and I continue to have problems with the app playing music when I shut off my car’s Bluetooth connection. No other app I have does this. I love it when this app works right, but Onkyo needs to step up its support for iPads and fix the weird Bluetooth issues. 12/30/16: All my Bluetooth problems have been solved with this latest release, and everything is working beautifully. Thanks, Onkyo! 11/16/16: HF Player has become even buggier for me after the iOS 10 app update. Not only has the problem when switching outputs not been solved, but now if I have the app open and paused and then switch to a Bluetooth output, tracks play back at a reduced speed. Closing and reopening the app is the only way to stop this, which is not Particularly safe when I'm driving. Other apps I have do not do this, so I believe this is an HF Player problem. Workarounds such as turning off handoff and deleting and then repairing my phone with my car and my headphones have also proved unsuccessful. I love this app, but please help, Onkyo! -------------------- Advances tracks when I switch between outputs (Bluetooth headphones to car Bluetooth, for example) or pause playback, watch a video in Safari, then restart HF Player playback. This has only happened since I upgraded to iOS 10. Please fix, Onkyo! Show more

    Great when it works.
I bought some FLAC and dowanloded it to my phone now trying to download to my iPad and the app just won’t download it. Sits at 0% the entire time
