    Fantastic Concept!
A great idea implemented well! This is fun to play with and helps bust “composer’s block” by seeding bigger song ideas. Bravo!

    Must have!
This thing is so good! Only thing I wish it had is the ability to chain patterns together. The problem would be how to sync each players head to move on to the next pattern? Maybe this is why it’s not an option? it’s not possible in our realm ? buy it!!! Show more

An Inspirational Sequencer Needing a Couple Features
This is hands down the most immediately musical multi-track sequencer I’ve used on iOS. I love it, it pairs wonderfully with so many things, from other iOS synth voices to hardware synths (Fugue Machine and the Elektron Digitone are a match made in heaven). It’s clever and elegant and keeps throwing unexpected and wonderful results back at me. It has a few features needed before reaching greatness. * A MIDI learn function, or documentation on what of its own parameters can be controlled via MIDI would be great. Being able to use the pitch slider from some midi controller like the Rozeta suite’s XY pad, or targeting the individual playheads octaves with MIDI LFOs would be awesome. * Muting or starting/stopping individual playheads via MIDI CC would make this an excellent performance tool in conjunction with a MIDI controller (or polytimbral synths with per-timbre mute like the Digitone :X). * A setting to control key change behavior would be greatly appreciated, e.g. allowing you to switch from a minor to chromatic scale while keeping the exact note sequence, rather than a minor third becoming a major second. * Some version of gate-length per track would be excellent. Currently if I want one playhead to have a noticeable release between consecutive steps I have to do a LOT of work. Obviously gate length in a sequencer like can take on different meanings, but something that allows a noticeable release phase on one playhead and legato articulation on another would be absolutely amazing. * A non-velocity automation lane. Many synths won’t let you change what velocity mod does, so another CC of automation lane would be astounding. (Bonus if the CC is also a per-playhead parameter) This sequencer is INCREDIBLE and I’m very excited to see what’s next for it! Show more

    GarageBand IPadOS support?
Lovely app, tons of possibilities. But. I play in GarageBand on theAir Pad 3. Fugue Machine does not show as an AUv3, only as an IAA. And will not respond even then. I know the whole Apple decision to go AUv3 has caused a fair amount of headaches for you (amazing) developers, as the current & admitted issues that AudioKit is having with my D1 & FM AUv3 plug-ins shows, but can you let me know here if this is gonna get resolved? Only Twitter, etc’s for your contact support here via your website, and I’m not doing them at the mo'. Thank you very. Show more

    Insanely easy and effective?
Thank you for creating this application. It has opened my eyes to the portability of making music on the fly. I am learning so much each time I sit in front of it. looking forward to any app you choose to focus your energy. Show more

    Kaboom
That’s the sound of my mind being blown. Just purchased this about 10 minutes ago and doing nothing but playing the preset patterns, my brain is melted. Unbelievably simple on one hand, but so complex in terms of results. You see this basic little pattern on screen and think “There is no WAY that is making this music.” Then you just play one head at a time and break it down to the elements and well whaddya know, it was! So flippin’ cool. Can’t wait to explore this more. Wow. Show more

    New World meets the Old....
So wonderful creating collages with Fugue triggering my old poly synths which have all been updated with midi kits.

Much More Than Meets The Eye!
Hi Alexander. I wanted to personally thank you for your wonderful invention. I have avoided this type of tool until now because I did not realize that something like FM could be used as an improvising instrument. But I got curious when it was recently on sale... and, wow, what an awesome surprise! As I explored the various parameters (some seemingly benign ones like “Start”) I realized I could do much more than just generate some patterns. The control of pitch, tempo, octave, direction, in and out of playheads all engaged me in a progressive, real-time creative experience that I had never had before. The capability of recording the four individual playheads was a tremendous asset in creating finished mixes, allowing me to orchestrate the real time improvisations as true modern classical or ambient finished tracks. As a jazz improvisor breaking the bounds of my own concepts has always been paramount. FM allowed me to do that in a brand new way. So, thank you so much for making FM! BRAVO!! TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS AMAZING TOOL! Show more

    Thanks for the Update
Not having used Fugue Machine since the update, but I can see there's even more stability and composing tools. I appreciate the extent which your app engages me in one of my favorite pass times. (Still trying my hand at a working definition of 'recursive') Show more

    1.5.11 Update greatly improved! ??
Update: The piano roll works like a dream now. Still nothing on the App Store like Fugue Machine. It’s a lot of fun to play with! —— l saw the latest big app update and loaded it. Still checking it out but things seem a lot better now! Thanks to the developer and also for their response! Many developers won’t do that. Plus 2 stars! ?? —— Kills creativity with the worst Piano roll editor I’ve ever touched! Terrible! It’s a nightmare! Auuuughhhh!! ? Working with the notes, being physically way too small, and you can’t zoom the piano roll at all, I spend 9/10 of the time ‘fighting’ with the note editor and cleaning up mistakes. Auugh Auugh! It’s an instrument wanna-be. You can’t even position the play head/s! All you can do is start/pause them and start over?! It’s a really cool idea done poorly. Obviously all these 5-Star reviews haven’t really tried using the app because it’s user interface is so restrictive. It’s an exercise in tedium... (Oh, on 1G iPad Pro) Show more

    Sooooo gooooood!!!
This an amazing and very well done sequencer. Great tool for creating complex or simple yet interesting melodic sequences. The multiple playheads each doing there thing really bring the patterns to life. I'm a score composer for WNYC's Snap judgment and I use this all the time. I also use it as my main melodic sequencer in for my live set sending each play head to separate synths. Highly recommend! Pretty much the reason I got an iPad. It's a game changer!! Show more

    Mind-boggling cool ?
I can think of features I would like it to have, but I've so far only scratched the surface of what it can do, so it might already do everything I've imagined my dream music app doing. Wow! ? Show more

    Bach Master:)
I have used this app since its inception. The level of creativity and fun derived from this app is infinitely greater than the price tag. I have used this for Ableton productions, triggering analog gear and getting me out of compositional ruts. The only thing more exceptional than the product is the developer himself. He has personally emailed me several times with thorough answers to help me route the app to the external world. Show more

    Such a good idea
What I love: making things I might not have thought of, guiding it in a way that isn’t arbitrary and doesn’t have to have the blandness that other “inspiration tools” might have. What I want: exporting MIDI files. I like to make things on the phone and then open them in my DAW (which is not Ableton) and it seems like a no-brainer to include this option. Also, more sounds. Not a whole synth necessarily, but some more options. And most importantly: when a playhead is going in reverse it acts like a tape playhead would and triggers the note at its note-off. I would find it more useful musically if I at least had the option of it triggering the note at its note-on position on the timeline when playing in reverse. (When I superimposed a 16th note figure in reverse over a quarter note figure, since the original notes were all 16th in length, the reverse sequence sounded early. Could I get it to do something different by changing note lengths? Yes, but I liked the original notes as they were. Show more

    Easy and complex
Elegant simplicity makes Fugue Machine easy to use immediately but it’s makes refined complexity possible. You can dive as deep as you want. At its deepest level it’s a kind of Sudoku puzzle maker for the composer in us. Show more

    Love the app
Really awesome personality to the music you can make with this. I’m curious if you’ll implement using different kinds of piano or our own sample as the not being played? I see I can do midi for each tape head but I haven’t done that or know how to link it up yet with anything else. Would love to know if that’s in the works or not. Either way it’s a great app!
