    App freezes!
This version of the app is not usable! When I open the app is connects to my roon server but then freezes. I’ve deleted the app several times, restarted my iPhone, reinstalled the app and nothing works! The app works on my iPad! Show more

    Unusable since update 831
This review is for the iOS Roon Remote app. The Roon service itself is great, if you can use it. Unfortunately, the last update to this app, which was released about a month and a half ago, makes it unusable for many users. The app now syncs the volume setting of the iOS device it’s running on to the volume setting of the streaming device that it’s controlling, and leaves it that way, even after exiting the app. This can have different results. The volume of my streamer is set more than 4 times higher than the volume of my iPhone. Thus, if I open Roon Remote, from that point on, all sounds coming from my phone will blast me at more than 4 times the expected volume. For people whose streamers are set to fixed volume, this app mutes their phone. No ringtones, alerts, or sound from any app. This problem was reported by multiple users immediately. To date, Roon has issued no confirmation that they intend to fix it. If you are considering Roon, and want to control it with an iOS device, I suggest waiting until they fix this. Show more

    The good and bad
Powerful music organization tool (and so much more), but the iOS app is buggy and freezes/crashes often.

    Laggy UI
UI always lags on latest devices. Ignores all Apple iOS guidelines for UI. It can be much better.

    Great service poorly implemented
Roon is a fantastic service. It works seamlessly on my PC,Mac and iPad. However the iPhone app on is useless. Latest version on an iPhone 12pro freezes and crashes constantly. Delete/reinstall/reboot all you want, it still crashes and freezes. Roon is a paid service. This level of performance is not acceptable. Show more

Helped rediscover my joy of music!
After 10 years or so of being tied up with kids with no time for listening, I stumbled across Roon. I was looking for something to drive my orphaned streamer. If you’re looking at Roon, you likely know the music delivery landscape has completely changed from the old model of purchasing discs or even downloading. Yes, I’ve subscribed to a number of streaming services, but found them to be fundamentally unsatisfying. Here’s why I find Roon to be brilliant: 1. “Suggestions.” So if I choose an album or playlist, when it completes Roon keeps the music going through algorithms. Sure, other services have versions of this, but so often Roon plays tracks that I love and are new to me. My horizons have been expanded far beyond what I would have thought possible. 2. Artist descriptions, reviews, and lyrics. I find it much more engaging at times to read about the music while I’m listening to it. The quality of the written content is amazing. 3. Open hardware environment. I’d heard whole-house systems, but while they were convenient, I didn’t want to be locked into their walled gardens. I wanted to listen to my high-end gear, but also have the ability to listen elsewhere in the house on less-expensive “endpoints”. No problem with Roon. There’s a huge variety of hardware options. A little technical skill is useful when putting together a Raspberry Pi endpoint but there are plenty of other options. While there’s little effort in initially getting the Roon environment set up, just try it. I predict you will find a new love of music. Show more

Crashes a lot (but good when it’s actually working)
App crashes pretty consistently on my iPhone and Tidal seems to stream slowly enough through my Roon server that songs abruptly stop and move to the next track. When it works, it’s good. However, the app basically has served as a way for me to start an album remotely and not as a reliable tool to browse and interact with my library. Show more

    Falling Behind?
Don’t get me wrong — I still love Roon in many ways. But a couple things have come to bother me about it: 1) Simply put, it’s falling behind and I don’t know if they have the resources to right the ship. With Amazon, Spotify, Apple, etc. stepping up and offering lossless versions of their music catalogs, Roon has to find a way to include those. It’s said they simply don’t have enough leverage to interest those bigger entities in working with them. I hope that can somehow be changed and soon. Otherwise, this might well be my last year subscribing. 2) I only just recently realized that what you mark as a favorite or in your “collection” in Roon, does NOT reflect in Tidal or Qobuz. So a huge task ahead of me this year is transferring my Roon favorites into one of those other services in case… well, see above. Show more
