Less than 1 star. DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY/TIME!
Read all the reviews before consideration of this product. Dreaded the day I bought this. It’s been nothing but a let down. Frustrated with a whole host of issues listed on others reviews! Nothing has worked right ever since I got it and I received no help from their support. They blamed it on an Internet issue which is clearly not the case. When we have people over for parties I recommend they never buy this product! Show more

Not Fully Compatible With Amazon Music
Playlist shuffle mode is grayed out and does not work. It's been this way for several years. This is a disgrace, especially for a customer who has spent several hundred dollars buying a set of Def Tech speakers. The Play-Fi app advises "DEAF" Tech customers to use this app, but it hasn't been updated in years. The Play-Fi app DOES have a working shuffle mode, but, with their latest update, will not play anything higher than standard quality music from Amazon. No HD or Ultra HD. Fix it! Show more

    Less than One Star
Play fi is just bad. It’s 2022 and this app feels like something from 1992. Clunky and most of the Apple Songs on my playlist aren’t compatible. They shot themselves in the foot not making any app on your phone discover your speaker as an output. 10 steps to play a song when on other apps it one click. Had the app for two years with my Definitive speaker and they haven’t updated it at all. What a waste. Show more

    Bluetooth connectivity
This app is great, wish speakers did not get disconnected from the app so often though. That would be a great improvement, thanks!

    Worst App and Support
I wish I had never invested in my W7 speakers. I put them throughout my home. They are spendy but it was a long term investment I thought I would enjoy. Was I wrong. The app stinks. It is hard to understand. Too complex for the average guy. And for a woman like me it is worse. I am constantly getting disconnected from the app. Pairing is a joke. Every time my speakers won’t start up I have to drag them to my router to pair. I wish someone that cared within this company would pay attention to these reviews. Seriously I am an unhappy customer. Is ok but not easy to use

    Horrible App and Wifi connectivity
Absolute garbage. With the money you pay for the speaker (which are quality) their app and wifi system is worthless. I have had to completely ditch using one of the 2 W7s that I have because the wifi connectivity just stopped working and it's off warranty. The connectivity on the one W7 that does still work is awful and needs to be constantly reset. AVOID AVOID AVOID! Definitive doesn't stand by their products. Spend your money elsewhere, unless you plan on getting traditional Definitive speakers. Show more

    Good but unstable sometimes
I love the speakers and subwoofer. Great product! However, when going wireless, this is only half the equation. The app was for a long time, unstable. It dropped me off the wireless/bluetooth frequently. Seems to be a bit less of an issue, but would expect this to never happen because of the app. Do this and Definitive could be unstoppable!! Ok not great
The app sound quality is good but the lack of being able to shuffle the music on my phone and Amazon music is extremely annoying

    Very balky playback with SiriusXM
Update Feb 2021: one would think after this time SOMETHING would have improved but no, nothing has. Let me reiterate: my wifi is excellent and I have no problems connecting independently to them SiriusXM app. But to do so via this mechanism is horrible. Half the time it cycles forever “reconnecting”. When it does, half the time I cannot load a station and instead am told “difficulty downloading genres”. When I finally do get to a station, I can listen for anywhere from 5 to 120 minutes before it decides to disconnect itself. The only reason I bother with this app is to listen to music using the sound bar without tuning in to the TV. Will someone at Definitive ever take this issue seriously? Or is this app so secondary to their business model that they don’t really care?? I have been struggling with the app for this sound bar for quite some time. I like the idea of streaming directly to the sound bar and avoid tuning on the TV. But, if only the darn thing would work reliably. I will start-up SiriusXM, for which I have a subscription. Half the time I can’t select a channel; instead I get an error message that says “cannot download genre”. When I do get in, I can start streaming fine. But after anywhere between 5 minutes and 2 hours the thing quits streaming; it tells me it is “trying to connect”. I will manually connect and it will stream again for a few minutes then quit. Sometimes if I force-close the app and re-open it, it will work again for a while; sometimes it does not. The Definitive tech support staff are less than helpful. They blame my internet connection (I have no trouble streaming 4K video from Netflix or YouTube or Amazon). Or they will blame SiriusXM, even though I can listen uninterrupted on the iPad or laptop. So the problem is with the Definitive app and they appear unwilling and unable to address the problem. Nice concept; poorly executed. Show more

    Definitive is not consistent
Definitive is not consistent and constantly requires me to reconnect to my WiFi. I have never been able to get my system to connect through my TV. I would not buy Definitive again Show more

    Good but could be better
Since upgrading my WiFi system to Orbi, this app is actually working again! For the last two years, every time I would try to use the app, it would constantly be “reconnecting” ...only working for a minute or two before reconnecting once again. I actually stopped using the app altogether, turning the functionality of my houseful of speakers, nearly useless (unless I plugged a phone directly onto one of them via mini audio jack). I upgraded my WiFi system to Orbi last month and have been successfully using the Def Tech app ever since! I’m so happy to hear music streaming through my entire house on the same note once again! Having said that, the system does have to “reconnect” every once in a while and I’m not sure why. Also, I regularly need to log back into my SiriusXM account when I start up the app, which is a little frustrating. Once suggestion for improvement I have for the app is that it would be great to control the volume for each speaker via a numerical system, say 1 - 40. Where you could turn the kitchen speaker up one tick and the soundbar down two ticks. Currently, the speakers each use a slide bar to change the volume they don’t have fine attenuation control (i.e., you may move one right a millimeter and nothing happens, then right another millimeter and volume jumps up 20 decibels.) All of my speakers would greatly benefit from finer volume attenuation control (especially in the very low volumes) and replacing the slide bar with a numeric control would also be greatly appreciated. Also, I agree with the requests to add Apple Music as a music service. That is a requirement in this day and age. Show more

    Navigating through app is cryptic
I find navigating through this app confusing and extremely frustrating in order to find music and radio apps. I often need to close the app and reopen it in order to access the music apps. It’s definitely not user friendly and seems very cryptic. Why is TuneIn Radio not available? Show more

    This app is horrible
Their cheapest speakers are priced at $399; that’s how much they’ve seemed to invested into this app. The list goes on: nuisance to connect with the horrible Hi-Fi speaker system, problems playing music to speakers after they’ve finally been connected, music cutting off after thinking its finally working fine. I tested this system with the W7; W9; and orinal Wsoundbar and sub woofer for 3 years a small one family home with 1,000mbs internet speed. The speakers are okay for being WIRELESS speakers... that is if you plug it with a cable. Horrible products in their wireless line. Will never buy from Definitive Technology ever again. Show more

Do not buy! The speakers all cut in and out like crazy! This is absolutely pointless. Only get if you plan on plugging into the Ethernet
