    The sounds!!!!
For someone performing live this is an A+ app.... For studio this app is a F but, if it was an Audio Unit it would be an A+++ that’s what we need Roli put those packs from noise over here and concentrate on this baby. By the way I bought the song maker kit and love it!!!! Show more

    Controls are Weird
Okay, it has the basic limitations that would keep it from being an iPadian giant as far as music production goes, given the lack of inter audio and Audiobus support. But the sounds are AMAZING. One problem is the actual interface. You will think the gray lines are the center of the ‘traditional-white’ key, but they are not, it slides off to the right. I see they did this as the ‘traditional-black’ key is centered graphically, so it would potentially overlap visually the spacing between the keys. But it just makes for a weird playing experience....a lot of wrong notes! Unfortunate. Show more

I want to rate this higher...
This app sounds and performs great...incredibly even! Potentially one of the best apps out there, but with no interapp audio or Audiobus support...what good is it really then? A toy for your phone...unless you use it for live performances? Show more

Can't use Soundpacks purchased for Noise!!
What the heck is up with that? Even if having to pay twice for the same content isn't bad enough, how about having to store 500+ Megs of content twice on the iPad. Come on, Roli. If you're going to pull that on consumers, at least mention thar fact in the description. And make them both more serious apps, like Audiobus compatibility for one. One star for a nice start, but that's it. Show more

    Making more noise
Ok the "squeaky wheel gets the grease"...2 stars for no interapp connectivity. 10 stars if it had it. Cool just to mess around with Rise, but that's about it.

So close, yet so very far.
This app would be great, if it weren't for one fatal flaw: No inter-app audio support. This severely limits the capabilities of the app. Inter-app audio support is the feature I NEED, but having said that, I also have a few WANTS: First, it would be great if I could import an Equator patch into the app. I haven't even bought the Equator synth yet, because the prospect of having to connect to a computer every time I want to play my own custom patches does not appeal to me. Second, I want the ability to edit the presets! Some of the patches that come with the app are awash in reverb/delay, and I can't do anything to change them. This limitation, on top of no inter-app audio, practically reduces the app to a toy. Finally, this app should be integrated with Noise. Meaning, if I buy a sound pack here, I can also download it from the Noise app with no additional charge. As it stands now, I basically have to buy the same sounds twice. That doesn't make sense. Having said all that, I still think the app deserves four stars. It is FREE, after all. However, I would pay a pretty penny for the features listed above. Make it happen, Roli. Show more

    Close, but no cigar.
I was very excited to have this 5D app on iPhone, but without Audiobus/inter-app integration, strange intermittent latency, poor preset navigation, and NO USER PRESET STORAGE, I have to give this 1 star. Unfortunately, the app feels like a cheap toy that you would never expect from the company that makes some of the most advanced devices and software on the market. I truly do not understand how or why this app is so barebones. I hate to complain, but even the free or cheap apps at least have user library options. So after $12 and many days of frustration I have no choice but to leave a negative review until new basic functions are included. Show more

    Could be better
First of all, it is nice to be able to mess around with the Seaboard without having to use laptop. But so far, this app serves only as a demonstration of the seaboard rather than a tool to empower seaboard and make music. Below are my suggestions to improve the usability of this app: 1. The effects library should be easier to navigate. Finding the effect that I want is a very painful process especially after I bought the add on effects. Effects should as least shown in category like the way they are shown in the Equator library. 2. Inter app support. GarageBand has the ability to play and record music from third party apps, and this app is, disappointingly, not utilizing this function. 3. Bluetooth headphones latency. Other apps, like the MusicStudio, has no noticeable latency when using Bluetooth headphones, in my case, the AirPods. GarageBand has noticeable but acceptable latency with AirPods. And the latency in this app is too noticeable even without connecting to the Seaboard. 4. The ability of effect customization, as other reviews mentioned. 5. The ability to import effects from the Equator and use them in the app. iPad and iPhone are getting way more powerful that they are replacing laptops to some degree. Since the Seaboard Rise has the Bluetooth feature and intends to let users make music on the go, the mobile platform should really follow up the pace. Show more

    Love it!!
This app works best if you own a Roli Seaboard midi controller or Roli Blocks I see a lot of negative comments but this app is meant for those who own those two devices that I just mentioned. I LOVE The app because it is made to work with my Roli Seaboard Rise:) Show more

    Is this a big joke
You can't use as a audio unit in garage band or audiobus this is for little kids and not adults

Stole my $$$$$ and screwed up my phone!
WARNING do not buy in app purchases. Synth had some neat sounds, so I decided to buy the in app purchases to expand the sound bank. Long story short I cannot download the packs I paid for. Roli sent me to Apple and Apple to Roli Support no help at all! Not only did they steal my money the app tries to install the purchases and will tie up gigs and gigs of memory that you can't get back unless you hard reset your phone! Horrible App horrible Support! Do Not Download! Will break your phone! Show more

    A fantastic waste
The Equator synth engine is remarkably expressive. A real powerhouse. This app? Not so much. Download it to get a taste of Equator. Aside from that there is surprisingly little to recommend the app. Show more

Seemingly abandoned dreams of being a real tool for musicians
This app was meant to be revolutionary by allowing musicians to eventually record from the seaboard app into a DAW. ROLI never followed through and made that possible. This is beyond disappointing for those looking to see the iOS music production world become stronger. Please please please make this audiobus compatible or inter app audio enabled. Show more

Where's my purchases made in Noise?
I've paid 8 bucks for two of the Noise's original extensions. Then the app shifts nonsensically into a stupid pattern toy without any respect for users (and plain old common sense). So today I've discovered there is now "another" Noise called Seaboard 5D and they want to charge me AGAIN for the packs I've already paid for! This is the biggest screw up in the history of music software! Whoa!! Hey people from Roli, this is a masterclass on how to destroy reputation. Chinese scammers have a lot to learn from you guys. Decent Apology from Roli
[Updated December 4th] Roli's change to the core app really upset a lot of their existing users. I don't know how Roli thought they'd get away with such changes without massively upsetting their users, but they apparently thought all would be fine. It wasn't. Their new app got slaughtered in App Store reviews and on forums. So Seaboard 5D is the app with the core functionality that was removed from the new "Noise" app (which was updated for the new Roli Blocks product). To apologize to the users they upset, this version was released separately (they eventually plan to put all of this back into the Noise app). They also made the additional sounds free for all users (not many sounds overall, so that was a nice gesture too). This is a good deal and the apology is accepted. I'm working from an iPhone 6s, not a Seaboard. I'd love a Seaboard but it's expensive and I'm waiting till they get their manufacturing and QA more consistent and reliable, stop having issues with needing to replace customer's new hardware, and constant firmware updates. So, just from the app and the phone itself, this is a fun and expressive ROMpler. My complaints: • Many sounds have filter settings that jump to other values when you slide your finger up or down along the vertical length of the key waves. Instead of smoothly sliding into a filter change, it jumps to fully open despite the initial strike being medium filter. This makes it impossible to smoothly open the filter and impossible to play softly because you're bound to accidentally slide your fingers, triggering the value jump. • Not much use in the iOS music-creator ecosystem without IAA, unless you want to use it as an engine in a standalone synthesizer scenario (recording the output from the device's audio out jack). • Sound packs were slow to install and required repeat attempts. Physical modeling synthesis would really be perfect for this kind of input (and save on storage space waste). So far, it seems like the sound engine here is sample-based (and the storage space sucked up by it is significant when you consider how limited iOS device storage is). The Seaboard 5D app therefore has all the pitch shifting artifacts typical of samplers (formants should be preserved; aren't). Sampling has evolved past this but here it is as is typical of sample players. Putting physical modeling of acoustic instruments in here would be ideal for such expressive input. Check out FingerFiddle for an example of incredibly expressive physically-modeled bowed strings using the multidimensional input of touch screens. It even manages to use touch surface area as pressure on iPads (which currently have no 3D Touch hardware). Show more
