the magnum opus of ambient music
Procedurally generated ambient music that runs continuously is one thing; emergent dynamic art another. Eno's work here is beautifyl and haunting, utterly machine and code and titanium yet all heart and humanity. It is the first purchase of software I have ever made that fall in the art category. Humble, brilliant, immediate. I woudl argue that this is the most important experimental musical app ever created. I spit out my coffee on my keyboard when I saw that only one review of this so far. Infinite Eno
This is great. I listened to Reflection on Apple Music a few times and decided to buy it. I was torn between getting the CD or the App. The app won. The app is simplicity itself. It starts playing as soon as it's opened. It also plays in the background, so your iOS device isn't tied up with the app. I like it better than Bloom--the soundscape is more interesting. I don't miss the interactive nature of the other Eno apps, either. I do miss the archival quality of having a CD. If the app stops working or if I stop using iPhones, I won't have access to it the same way I would if I had the physical CD. I might try recording some sessions through the phone's lightning port. Hopefully more apps like this are on their way. A Neroli or Thursday Afternoon app would be amazing. Show more

Feature Req - real pause button ?
The whole app seems to reset and start over every time I pause to answer a question/phone call at work. Really appreciate if I could pick up where I left off ! Wouldn't that be more the point for a "generative" music app ? Thx Show more

    Science fiction soundscape
This is beautiful on my Apple TV and home sound system. It fills my house with a gentle, surprising and relaxing soundscape. I listen to this for hours.

    Ambitious Ambience
If you appreciate Brian Eno's ambient music, you will love this. It is reminiscent of Eno's best early work with ambience. The piece slowly evolves and can be enjoyed for hours, like a meditative soundtrack. Somehow, even as background, this music is energizing and uplifting. This app is well worth the investment if you are an Enophile. Eno updated the app in March 2017, to mark the beginning of spring. Show more

    art space
The generative ambient music and screen artwork provide an excellent space for thinking. Is it worth the high price? It was for me.

    Peak Eno?
I believe this app will prove to be worth the money for Eno fans, new or old. It extends a lineage that began with the meditative tracks of Another Green World (in 1975!), but in particular it connects to Thursday Afternoon (1985) and other longform works that Eno now calls "thinking music." In a sense, it completes the journey, giving us music that is truly part of the living environment because, like the other parts, it always changes and never repeats itself. A couple of notes: 1st, and time-sensitive, the free "Sisters" MP3 downloads for early buyers are worthwhile -- essentially a complete new album in themselves, somewhat similar to the Reflection CD but distinct. 2nd, I *don't* find Reflection, as others do, simple or monotonous compared to Eno's earlier works. Really, you have to listen for a while: it has its moods. 3rd, if earlier reviews have left you confused, it does now have a sleep timer! Show more

    Tranquil
I'm a big fan of ambient music, typically getting my fix from Drone Zone on SomaFM's fantastic website. I seldom write reviews, but I have to say that Reflection is a noteworthy app, and since my download, I've had it going non-stop. Yes, $31 is a lot for a music app, but the ever changing nature of Reflection makes this a must buy for ambient aficionados. Show more

    Amazing
This is worth the price and is amazing on Apple TV. I would recommend letting it run for hours on end. Enjoy the serenity that follows.

Not worthy of the generative treatment
The composition itself is ok, nothing spectacular compared to other works. There just simply aren't enough elements to the track to justify making this a 'generative' experience. The high frequency resonance is particulary grating when the engine decides to play it multiple times very close together. Same for the 'classic Eno' fade-in synth note. I knew going in that Reflections is not interactive a la Scape, but the latter was much more exciting and promising due to an excellent variety of moods and textures. In sum, not a varied enough composition to be a showcase for generative music. Show more

    Eno fully realized.
This is, for me, the most fully realized Eno piece to date. Finally, technology enables a single work that has no beginning and no end, but has "moods" that shift with time of day, duration, etc. Every day it grows and evolves and I grow more enamored. Kudos. Show more

    Magic App
Wonderful little app. The endless and forever changing ambient music is really magical. The option to play via the Sonos system app without a physical cord connection would be a very welcomed addition. Cheers, ||||||||K Show more

    Endless ambience
Some may be put off this app as it's price seems high impaired to most apps for iOS. I took the plunge because of my years of enjoying the music of Brian Eno and a couple of his earlier apps. I listened to the Reflections album, but I wanted the full experience. I've now been listening to the app for several hours without monotony. The music flows and keeps a portion of my brain stimulated while I both work and play. I am looking forward to playing this through the home sound system, allowing the peaceful sounds to fill the space and inspire creativity and harmony in our home. Show more

    Meh
It's hard to believe I would rate an Eno app this low, but Reflection has been a disappointment. First, it isn't one of his strongest pieces. Second, the generative aspects are quite uninteresting. Why no textural development? Everything is the same forever. The visuals are similarly uninteresting. There is no interactivity. For $5, this would be an ok value, but $40 is just too much. Show more

    Reflection app + Apple TV + 5.1 = heaven
This app is as good at being Eno as Eno is. I wish all of his other ambient works were also available in generative app editions.

Great music, not so great app
As other have mentioned there is no interactivity here, unless you count a pause button. I sure would have liked an optional shut off timer so if I want to use to fall asleep to I won't wake up to dead battery if nothing else. All the other Eno apps have this feature so it couldn't have bee hard to add this. It's great that it's fresh every time but that doesn't make worth ten time as much as the older apps. I have alomost everything Eno's done and even got to meeet him very breifly once and this is this first time he's ever disappointed me. Maybe after I've listened more I'll change my mind but so far I'm unimpressed. Show more

    Works on iPad 2
To start of this works on my iPad 2, at first I thought it wasn't compatible but it works! I'm am a pretty big eno fan . Although pricey this app is awesome. I'd say it sounds similar to the first two tracks of " the ship" , but there are no weird voices or speech. I found some of the voice segments in the ship to be slightly disturbing to fall asleep too. I like reflection a whole lot more and have listened to the app for about 25 hours awake I'd say, it's easy to fall asleep to! It has an almost somber like feel to it like "lux" or "small craft on a milk sea" , but it does not make you feel sad in any way. It sort of feels impartial or neutral I'd say and doesn't change the mood I'm in, it just allows me to think. As far as it changing continuously you need to have the app running for a long time like hours at a time to hear differences. my theory is the generative programs kind of start over each time you open and close it, because it doesn't run off wifi/ internet. Pause the program instead of closing it to keep it going. (Also runs in the background of other apps) I've compared it to the 54 min album version and overall the differences I can notice are more "bell" like "gong" type sounds and different intervals mixing and changing on top of the droning swell notes. There are moments when it almost shifts into a major key or more feel good vibe, but remains primarily neutral. From what I've read this will change throughout the year so I am excited to see how it will evolve with the changing seasons. Also the visuals are quite nice, I've started playing a memory game where I glance at the screen every 15 minutes or so and try to remember the colors and shapes of the screen while I'm doing other tasks. I come back to it and it's changed! Show more

    Great concept, terrible price
This essentially works as a 'Buddha Box'. Too bad it's not interactive in any way. This music is good, but I wish there was a little more dynamics, starts to sound the same after 30 min. Free "upgrades" would be nice. Show more
