This app unlocks much of the potential of the Clavinovas, but has some significant missing or incomplete features that would be game changers if only Yamaha included them… Chief among these is multitrack functionality. So many great voices, no ability to layer them to unlock what could be really awesome compositional potential, beyond splitting the keyboard into two. The small size and difficulty of expanding the song library for the light guided teaching function really limits this function’s usefulness. Hopefully Yamaha will correct these shortcomings in future updates soon. Seems like low hanging fruit to radically increase the instrument’s utility! Show more

The piano and app can save a few presets, but many important ones such as reverb, touch sensitivity, cannot be saved. So the piano offers nearly a dozen ways to modify the different pianos but to really recreate a 'patch' you like you have to write everything down, then spend a minute making the settings. There are really no user presets . . . which imo is very poor. Show more

I cannot get it connected.

This app has always worked well when I’ve needed it. I’ve made Audio and MIDI recordings with it and been able to pull those files directly into GarageBand. That’s very handy. For basic lead sheet type chord charts it does a very good job. I’ve also been able to generate sheet music from the Smart Pianist recordings by pulling the file into the PreSonus Notion sheet music app. It’s been awhile, but I’m pretty sure I’ve done it from MIDI recordings, which would have all that information. I like that I can experiment with Reverb and other settings in the Mixer. Turning the Metronome Bell On and Off appears to be a late or forgotten undocumented feature to the P-125. I can turn the Metronome Bell On and Off within the Smart Pianist app and the setting is stored in the piano. Unfortunately, Yamaha never provided a way to turn the Bell On or Off on the piano directly without using the app. Either that, or this setting got missed when the Quick Operation Guide was created and printed. Yamaha, is there really no way to turn the Metronome Bell On and Off on the piano itself? I’m mentioning it for others who may not have discovered this anomalous functionality yet. One new problem: In the Piano Room, with my P-125 connected via USB (a P-125 with audio interface, not the current P-125a without the audio interface) it only shows 2 pianos, Grand and Bright. What about the Live and Ballad Pianos? All 4 pianos appear under Voices, but not in the Piano Room. Is this a new bug that got introduced during updates? Other than those 2 anomalies, Bell and Piano Room, it’s a great app! It deserves a lot more than the current 2.9 rating. The developers, obviously, spent a lot of time and work assembling this app. I appreciate it guys and gals. Thank you, developers, and thank you, Yamaha!! I love my P-125 and this app is the icing and cherry on top of its cake. Show more

I can’t save my sound please fix

When I try to record something on the app, it immediately starts playing whatever I last recorded as soon as I start recording. Too bad that when I spend $17000 on the trans acoustic piano itself, the app won’t work to record. Show more

This app gives me a better interface for my clavinova 635. It’s actually pretty great having it on my iPad where my sheet music would go. A very simple enhancement that would make me give this 5 stars would be if any time you open the app (force quit then reopen) it automatically tries to connect to your instrument. As of now, it is so random if it will do it at all. It’s annoying going into settings and connecting to my piano if this doesn’t connect on its own. Make it so it connects on app startup every time and I’ll be a happy camper. *UPDATE NOVEMBER 2022* They released an update to this app that now syncs with your piano every time you open the app which was really an issue but they listened and fixed it so I changed from 3 stars to 5. This would truely be an instructional tool if it had a few more features. A way to create and organize folders for user songs as scrolling to find them is teadious, and folders would allow separating music into genres. A feature that would help with my learning would be fingerings for notes. Wouldnt reading an XML music file allow for this information? Also, when i change settings they are not remembered, ie. if a pedal is changed the setting is lost unless everything is left powered on. Show more

If you ever use the app, you will aware it should be sorted by time. Or provide options for sorting by time or name.

The latest update made the app crash immediately upon opening on both my iPhone and iPad Pro, both running the latest IOS from Apple. The previous version worked for years and was very good. Show more

I hooked up my P515 and lost the style section and lessons. Also, there’s only 4 pianos in piano room but 10 piano voices on the piano. Please fix!! I’d like to see a learning section for kids and adults alike. If buying a $1,800 piano isn’t enough to include the lessons, at least include an in app purchase! I want full functionality after paying this much! iOS 16: app doesn’t open. Just updated to your latest. Show more

Sometimes it does, mostly it doesn’t. Most frustrating app

It’s nice with the play along but I want to upload sheet music and play that on my csp. It’s 2022 and you can’t figure out how to add that function, please contact all the other sheet music scanning/reader developers. Show more

I use it with the Clavinova CSP-170. The interface and menu navigation could be significantly improved. For example, once you have selected a song to play you need to press “song” to load it.. It is redundant and not intuitive to know “song” means load. It may seem like a slight annoyance but it is a frequent operation and not compatible with Apple’s logical way of navigating menus. In terms of learning, it is lacking some crucial options to take advantage of the great piano features, like the follow lights are helpful but if you are trying to learn a small tricky section of a song there is no way to select a small portion of sheet music and repeat it so that you can dial in on the mechanics… instead you are forced to practice the song it is entirety, which is not efficient… sure you could use the small scroll bar to move forward but it is not precise and is tedious and not worth the effort. It would be great to see an update… it would show that Yamaha is invested their products and not settling for good enough. Show more

Why am I not getting bosendorfer sound in YDP144?

New version of app was installed on IPad using automatic updates. Can no longer access app. Please fix.

I understand this is what people use, but how i wish we are able to just save files straight to our devices without having the need to pay for dropbox. Today is 02/19/2022 and i decided to write this review because i have had enough! I recorded a song and when it came up to saving it, it says it cannot access my dropbox… but my dropbox is fine and i am able to use it. So i decided to refresh the smart pianist app but low and behold, the app itself would not open. It keeps on showing the Yamaha logo and then closes out…. I do not know what would happen to the songs i was not able to save to dropbox if i decide to uninstall and reinstall. Smh Show more
