Now that they removed a P-255 controller app from the store, they should make it right for the customers and add support for it to this app.

This app could REVOLUTIONIZE the UI for Yamaha pianos and add so much more usability & function. Instead it falls short in many ways. For example, once I start a MIDI recording with rhythm there is NO WAY to change the tempo mid-song. The rhythm window disappears once recording starts, and the metronome icon which SHOULD reopen that window instead STOPS the rhythm entirely. Even the bare P515 piano lets me do this without the app! PLEASE put some serious thought and development into upgrading these kinds of glaring shortfalls. Make the app into the kind of thing most of us expected when we sank $$$$ into our Yamaha digital pianos. What is the point of the app if I have to exit & disconnect it from the piano in order to access some piano functions?? Show more

Despite what others have stated, I have not had any issues with the app running on two different iPads (original iPad air & iPad 5th Gen), nor the apple cable (not a knock-off), nor the app recognizing my P125! Yes, IT’S A CABLE. GET OVER IT. It could be Bluetooth... But who really cares? The accessibility of all my piano’s features and settings right from this simple and easy to understand app along with the ability to play stored music right off my iPad through the piano’s speakers make this app AMAZING. The generated chord charts for the song’s I’ve tried are quite accurate and I can even slow down or repeat specific measures of the song to learn it right! I plan on suggesting thus app to other musicians who don’t even have a Yamaha piano because the song-learning features can be used regardless of whether a piano is connected or not! It could be used equally well for any musician who is trying to learn any song. Thank you Yamaha. Show more

I was hoping to enjoy this app with my new $4k Clavinova 745 but the Bluetooth can’t hold a connection. Very disappointed. Updated, I got the Yamaha UDWL01 WIFI USB/MIDI adapter and no longer having issues with the iPad. Bluetooth works with iPhone X iOS 14.3 but couldn’t get the 1st iPad Pro to work with Bluetooth on iOS 14.3 Show more

I have a relatively high end Yamaha keyboard around 2,000. there should be no reason why my instrument isn’t supported. The instrument itself isn’t old either so I don’t understand why it won’t support my keyboard make it compatible with the (clp- 535) Show more

This app does not connect to CLP-645 via the usb host to usb C cable on an iPad Pro 2020. It sees the piano, but hangs when connecting. It even briefly shows the piano connected. Then it reports unable to connect to device and drops the connection. It works via the lightning cable to an iPad Pro 2018 model. Tried it again with the latest iOS (14.3). Still doesn’t work. Since working with the tiny lcd on the piano is impossible to work with recordings, the app is required if you want to record playback for students and/or instructors. This has been so frustrating that I don’t even recommend Yamaha digital pianos anymore. Show more

Every time I try to connect to my COP745 the app crashes during connection!!! My iPad recognizes the piano and does connect through audio and midi.. The app recognizes the piano,..starts to connect and then crashes out every time. I have not yet been able to even use this app. this feature was a big selling point for this model with the Bluetooth. Very displeased it is not working. Yamaha fixyr app. ...let alone I have problems with this piano right out of the box and I’m currently waiting for a technician to come out and fix it or I may have to send it back for a new one? losing faith in Yamaha products!! Smart Pianist would not connect to our brand new CLP-745 with iOS 14.2. iOS 14.3 seems to correct a Bluetooth MIDI issue and now the app connects and seems to work as advertised. Show more

Downloaded this to get music on and off my P-125. The app inconsistently recognizes the instrument, and quit recognizing it all together within an hour. (No, it’s not a problem with my cords—they are all working perfectly). I would not have bought a Yamaha machine, which solely relies on this app to get recorded music between the instrument and computer, if I had known this app was an absolutely useless piece of crap. DON’T BUY YAMAHA pianos until they (1) debug this cr-app, and (2) create a version for Mac (non-mobile device). There’s no reason that, even if this ad worked, we should be tethered to clunky, multi-step mobile device intermediaries. Show more

App crashes when trying to pair instrument. I have a Yamaha CLP-745. I’ve tried countless times. Please fix immediately. Why is there no resolution to this known issue?
