    Excellent update
The new wave import feature just brought this to a whole new sonic level! A great synth just became Huge, in an instant! Having a ball with this.

Oops. Lastest update just crashes :(
Wow, Virsyn is has been really great on all their synths. What happened??? They released a synth that is slow and buggy on an iPad 4 ! :(

Nave-lite. Too bad it is so glitchy.
Lots of bad code in this one makes for jittery performance. Many adjustments made on the OSC edit screen don't seem to do what one wold expect and more often don't seem to do much at all to alter the sound. Need to dive in there a while longer to get a full assessment. Love the randomizer this developer is famous for. The app makes some wonderful, fat sounds when it is not glitching out. To be fair, I've only tried it on an aging iPad2, but have read about the quirky UI jitters on even the latest hardware. Seems to be mostly monophonic on iPad2, but I'm sure that is mostly due to CPU constraints. Hoping for an update soon to smooth things out. Show more

    Superb!
This really is a (5) ***** iOS software synthesizer app! No exaggeration! I had previously given 1st place in iOS land to Waldorf's Nave (IMHO), which is indeed a beauty, but W seem to be taking their time as far as addressing the polyphony issue I caught whilst doing direct comparisons between Nave running on an Air 1 & 2 - No prob - there are plenty of other genuinely great software synthesizer apps now available in the App Store - Poseidon for iOS was released just a few days ago (November 2015) - built by a software synthesizer company that specializes in putting additive synthesis to good use. I've had a chance now to play with it for several fun-filled hours (ver 1.0.2), and am just blown away by both its programming power and great sound! On an Air 1, it runs quite comfortably -giving me 8 notes (fixed) @ (2) voice unison per note & 512 partials - pegging about 40-50% of the cpu's resources according to Virsyn's in-app cpu meter (with no obvious sonic breakup as long as I'm watching my levels - ) Which brings up this point: The caveat of running a software synthesizer of this pedigree is that Poseidon & those of a similar ilk tend to be resource hogs - because in stupid-simple terms: there really is a lot going on when running an app like Poseidon - it has to make significant demands on your iPad in order to work & sound as brilliantly as it does - It would be very easy to go in depth discussing the nuts and bolts of this thing - I'll spare y'all, and just end my overview with the statement that I'm replacing Nave with Poseidon as my current # 1 iOS synthesizer pick - IMHO, it's that good! Poseidon Synth or Poseidon Adventure?
11 Nov 2015 This is a new app and is with the typical first round offerings of bugs and somewhat dreadful UI performance so it is more of an adventure than a synth that one could rely on right now as a serious instrument. Even on an iPad Air 2, selection menus are dreadfully slow and painful, and the response to any option chosen takes a second or two before you can actually use it on the keyboard. This manifests itself in the synth not making a sound at all when any key is depressed for a couple seconds. The sound and selections are incredible, exactly what I would expect of VirSyn; but, the menus are just plain slow. Often times you will find yourself touching a second time thinking the app did not respond which then just makes the menu go away again. That is an annoyance. I guess I would have expected better from VirSyn; but, I see they are actively fixing bugs with updates being pushed. Some of that polish needs to be done on the UI response. I will continue to try this with every update and will upgrade the stars accordingly. For now it remains in the Not Serious folder. Show more

Poseidon Synth's sound generation potential is amazing!
Update: Patch fixed all my issues with Poseidon Synth reverting back to defaults after playing in the background for a few minutes and when exiting the app except for it still is reverting back to the "16th Choir" preset on app exit. The developer was extremely fast replying to my email and even added another change where Poseidon Synth stopped playing if you touched the apps logo. :-) I'm still working my way through the 600 presets but so far I have not found a bad sounding one yet. And unlike many other synth apps, when I filter on Ambient/dark/thick/harmonious/metallic I get about 75 presets!! Wow! What was that McDonald Hamburger ad's line, "I'm Lovin' it". This is an insanely sick synth app! I love it! ------ As soon as I looked at the screenshots and heard it's sound, I was in love and immediately bought it. I'm glad they chose to use context-sensitive help. It's a pain to dig through a manual for a quick answer/reminder about a control. I would love an extensive manual some day that goes deeper into Poseidon Synth though. I can't believe some of the sounds I've made with Poseidon Synth right off and it has the best preset generator I've heard. I have not created one that sounded bad yet. I am really excited about what I'll be able to do with this synth app. I think the first reviewer may have been fooled regarding the web site support's form. It does not give feedback when submitting the form but I checked to send a copy to my email address and I did receive it. Now for the not so good. Exiting app causes it to go back to the default preset and app settings like turning off playing in background. Preset filter context sensitive help incorrect on colors used. There is no yellow outline. No mention of what blue is. Context sensitive help font is ridiculously small making it difficult to read and aids eye strain. Missing context sensitive help for FX/Chorus You cannot press a white key between the black keys and get the white key to sound. Even if the keys are set to their widest setting. If you select the logo in the upper left corner while Poseidon is performing, that stops the playing and it should not. It would be nice to be able to track the play indicator line while playing with a button to enable/disable the feature. This would be helpful with the bigger Spectral Models because zooming out makes their details too small to see. If let play in the background for some number of minutes the app goes back to the default sound and automatically disables playing in the background. This one is a show stopper not to mention very annoying. Show more
