    One of the best
Sequel to the best drum app almost ever. Best sequencer for poly and cross rhythm, totally amazing circular sequencer. Limited by being only 8 channel super simple sampler

    What am I doing wrong?
I can't get exported stereo patterns in tempo in either Pattern or Patterning 2. Otherwise than that this program is very good.

Awesome Drum App! I have some requests...
Olympia Noise Co, Patterning 2 is simply amazing and worth 5 Stars if you can give us the below features. Please give us: 1. MIDI Export all patterns as an Abelton Live Drum Rack Format and/or as individual tracks. I would love to be able to not worry about what drum samples I am using and export out the MIDI from Patterning 2 into an Abelton Live Drum Rack or into another iOS app. 2. iPhone iOS app version. I don’t always have my iPad with me, but I always have my iPhone. 3. AUv3 Compatibility. Keep up the good work with this app. Definitely has been allowing me to create great drum parts on the go. Bravo! This is the best drum machine / sequencer app ever.
I can’t even describe how much I love this clever app. Some other apps are good but rarely do they actually fit the creative music making process. This app is extremely intuitive (perhaps with the exception of the “song” section), flexible and musical. The spinning pattern is a great idea, it makes visualizing and understanding the rhythm so much easier. The user created drum kits sound great and are very diverse. Patterning is one of those apps you hope never goes away. Bravo! Great update with the “pages” feature. At first I was worried that it meant that you can no longer have patterns with more than 16 steps displayed on one circle/page, but the implementation of the “pages” feature is brilliant and allows customization. I thought it was impossible to improve this app but the developer managed to do so. Show more

Can’t use it. Crashes when I hit play.
Can’t use the software. I open it, make a beat, heat play and it crashes. Very unstable. I want to like it, so I will give it 3 stars. Version 1 just works. Show more

From the Basic to the Experimental
This is a great app. It is fun. It is easy to make a basic pattern, but the fun comes when you explore all the possibilities.

    Amazing drum/rhythm machine
Was initially taken back by the interface but figured it out the basics in under an hour. One cool thing: You can change SONGS instantly and seamlessly from the file menu, wherever you are in the measure and at the same count, if this makes sense. This makes it easy to create a live set with different songs without a break ever happening. Also, lots of options to randomize patterns. This sat unused on my iPad for almost a year. Now that I’ve figured it out and see all its potential, it’s seriously my no.1 music making app. Get AudioShare or Dropbox to import your own audio files. Show more

    When I load...
...patches from the drum kit library...(or an entire drum kit), they appear to load but once you draw some input on the wheel...and press play, different patches are playing (seems like the default kit). Once I save the project and reopen it, the correct (selected) patches or drum kit are/is loaded. But only after saving the project and then reopening...or just closing down the app and restarting it. I do have to admit I’m running on a beta iPad iOS so it might just get resolved once the latest update from either you or apple will come through. Show more

    Almost amazing!
This app is seriously, mostly great. The layout is really interesting, it is very flexible, and you can do a lot with it, in terms of shaping sounds, and weird time signatures... BUT... it has crashed enough, that I can’t trust that I’d be able to use it in a live setting(It’s definitely not the IPad). That is incredibly disheartening, and relegates it to just a fun thing to mess around at home with. Be warned! Show more

    Fantastic beat making app
So, I’ve owned patterning 1, and I enjoyed it. I think the whole concept of both apps is interesting and original, and well executed. I decided To get patterning 2 recently, and I love it. There are so many new features. I love the record feature, as well as the song/timeline feature. I would say this app is worth it for $15. Show more

The Best Drum Sequencer I’ve Ever Used
Not just a pretty face! The circular interface feels obvious for drum loops as soon as you use it, and does an excellent job of showing you the important state from the other drum tracks while letting you really dial in a single one. The provided drum kits sound great, the effects are solid, having an inter-app-audio output per drum track makes it easy to use external effects, audio import and sample editing make (re)creating your own drum kits straightforward. There are a small number of bugs or feature requests before I’d declare it 5 stars. Some way of visualizing the current layer on other tracks would be absolutely amazing, via color saturation, brightness, or something. A trigger delay layer would be excellent for nailing those hip-hop micro-timings, and a randomization layer for that would help make some very “human” sounding drum loops. Choke groups have a bug - If track A and B are in a choke group together and you mute track A, track B will still be choked when track A would normally trigger. I think this would be fine as an option per choke group, but it confused the hell out of me when I first encountered it. And if I move A to a different choke group while muted, it will continue to choke B until I unmute it and let the sample trigger once (and then no longer chokes B when re-muted). Also it would be nice if the choke implementation was documented a little better, specifically if multiple tracks in the same trigger on the same step, which one is actually choked out? Sample import has a bug - if I select multiple files via the file dialog, none of them get imported. It’d be nice to be able to select all samples in a folder (or even better, a whole folder tree) instead of having to import one at a time. Performance buttons to clear solo off all tracks and unmute all tracks would be extremely useful. The timeline interface has a bug that crashes the app, if you have patterns A and B, then delete B, the arrow to select which pattern to use stays around and if you tap it, the app crashes. Pinch to zoom/stretch on sample start/stop point editing would be really great, currently dragging up or down on the sample waveform to adjust gain is really unintuitive and easy to miss that you’ve done it. It’d be nice to be able to override individual samples in use for dynamic drum tracks, instead of having to copy the whole kit and change one or two samples out. An option to tie coarse tuning to the midi note sent would be great as well, plus an option to tie the midi gate to the sample’s hold duration. Count in + overdub/replace options for recording would be choice. Also if the midi sequencer were exposed as a midi Audio Unit it would probably be the only sequencer I use for any project forever. Aside from the bugs these are pretty small things, this is SO FRICKIN GOOD. Show more

Awesome tool, best iOS drum machine
Perfect drum machine app, no 5 dollar drum kits, no nonsense. Big props to dev for getting this to work as well as it does while having so many advanced features. I’d pay again for this gem XD Show more

    Phenomenal & beautiful sequencer
This is THE most fun unique sequencer I’ve ever used!?! I’ve experienced a few crashes here n there and rarely a few imported samples randomly go missing upon loading some projects, so I end up just replacing them. Other than that, I appreciate the unfamiliarity and unique ways of programming drums and little melodies. I absolutely love the probability and ratchet randomness that you can get outta this app.. seriously, amazing job dev’s, thank you for your creative tools in which you share for us to collaborate... Immensely grateful... Show more

    Good stand-alone app.
Good as a stand-alone app but lack of AUV3 really hinders it’s usability. Mostly just sits in my unused app folder.

    Great app...crashes on export.
First off, I love this app and would be happy to revise my score. However, I have encountered a fatal flaw, a critical bug which affects the utility of this app. The export feature crashes when using Ableton Live export to export individual tracks. Minor as it may seem, it really limits the utility of this app and how much it can be used in a practical sense. Show more

A cut above the rest in iOS music.

Every Patterning 1 user should get Patterning 2. End of story.
If you’re even mildly interested in iOS Music Production then you’ve heard of or own Patterning, the most innovative drum machine app ever released. It was a tall order, but the developer tweaked the foundation and added some majorly useful additions that make Patterning 2 a must buy. The ability to assign multiple kits and several grooves to a song makes it possible to arrange a track completely inside Patterning 2 and then export that drum part to your DAW of choice. An incredible app...Highly Recommended. Show more
