Great for beginners but could be better
**2nd update** not sure if they’ve had licensing issues or what, but with the new version many of my absolute favorite songs to play are just gone. And they’ve added a handful of new, lesser-known songs. Now I wish I written down the chords (or memorized them, duh). What’s going on, guys? We depend on this app and pay a lot of money for it and it’s disappointing when these major changes eliminate important features or delete well-known and loved songs. **update** They’ve done a major update to the app and so far the songs are buggy (lyrics and/or chords not matching up with the music), my playlist is gone, AND, most importantly to me, there doesn’t seem to be a way to eliminate the melody when the song plays or a way to transpose up or down. The primary reason I use this app is to sing with it, and I hate hearing a cheesy melody in the background, and some of the songs don’t work in my vocal range so I need to transpose them. Hugely disappointing. Pros: huge song list, easy cords, ability to take out the melody or percussion when playing, slow down the tempo, easily pause the song, a few ways to tune, ability to transpose up or down Cons: I found the strumming tutorials to be lacking. Consequently, strumming is my weakest skill. Limited chords - only the most basic. This ends up making some songs sound off. Please add some 7 and minor chords! They irregularly update the song list so it will be months and months without any new material. Give us the hits! There are a ton of typos in the lyrics. The price is quite high. Every time you go between the app and another app, it displays the logo when you return. If you sing, oftentimes the performance rating at the end is inaccurate. Also - the app inspires laziness. I haven’t memorized one song, despite playing for a year. Recommend adding an exercise to play without chords displayed Show more

songs missing, not a great update
Been using the app for a year or two to relax and sing to my favorite songs, but since the new update things have been getting worse such as chords changing in songs that weren’t there before (for example Bm was added to my go to 4 Non Blondes song “What’s up” and now is difficult to play). But today I think there was a licensing update because half of my song are gone from my favorites playlist (I think I had 20 total). Most of entire bands are missing like Coldplay (“Yellow”, “The Scientist”), Snow Patrol (“Run” “Say Yes” “Chasing Cars”) and more. I know there’s not much you can do about licensing, but a way to see notifications on the app for updates like these would’ve been better than to find half of your favorite songs just gone. It’s just a bummer. Show more

    Nice
Don’t have the paid subscription but it looks cool, just pricy. I absolutely love having a great tuner on my phone for free so 5 stars!!

    THE beginner ukulele app
I’m an intermediate ukulele player and I got the app for chord reference purposes. And while the lessons aren’t for my level, this app would have been SUPER helpful as a beginner. There’s everything you could need beginning ukulele here. And the app is designed smoothly and works great. So if you’re a beginner looking for an app to help you learn, this would be a great one. What Happened?!
I have had this app for quite a while. I typically use it to look at chords for a lot of the popular songs that are popular. I logged in the other day and a ton of songs are no longer available. I’m not sure if this is a copyright issue or there is something funky with the recent update, but it’s honestly not worth the price based on its current iteration. Show more

    The new update!!
The new update on iphone is stupid! It is not allowing access or permission for the app to use my microphone to tune my uke. FIX THIS

I really like using this app to help me tune my Ukulele and also for the lessons offered.

    The update ruined the app
This WAS a great app. I had never picked up an instrument before, but a trip to Maui inspired me to buy a Kala ukulele. I had been using the app for about 10 months and felt like I was learning and getting much better. I started out at 1 star ratings after finishing a song and was regularly getting 3 stars. Then I updated the app. The problems are: 1. Deleted my old playlist. 2. Although my microphone is on, the cord feedback now requires headphones. 3. Got rid of the score and star rating on how you did playing a song. 4. Scrolling through songs is glitchy and there is a faint imprint of the song list with the scrolled list behind it. Can’t tell what song you’re actually clicking on. 5. The strum patterns are not as useful as the old style. 6. The whole interface is clunky. I love my Kala ukulele, but the update ruined this app. Show more

    Where are the songs?
I have been subscribing and using the Kala app for a few months now and have loved it. I have gone from never playing a ukulele to really mastering some great strumming and songs. However, recently songs I have been playing for a while are now gone from the app (Brown Eyed Girl, Love Somebody, to name a few). Plus new songs like Shivers and 10000 Hours appear, disappear, appear again, and are now gone. The recent update said new songs would be added each week, but what’s the point if they keep disappearing. I’m paying for an app that isn’t keeping to its promise? And the biggest puzzle is for a few days I had songs where next to the tabs that say “Practice” and “Ukulele“ it also had “Band” and I think “Lyrics.” These were awesome features and now they are gone. Why? Is this an upcoming update? I would appreciate some answers and clarification. I’ve loved the app but right now it doesn’t deserve 5 stars. Show more
