EnglitinaXL-English Concertina

Screenshots

Englitina is an authentic-sounding English Treble Concertina for the iPad. The button layout is identical to a standard 48-button acoustic instrument. Englitina is the perfect app for someone interested in the English Concertina to have an experience of playing the instrument and become familiar with the button layout without the expense of purchasing a real concertina. If you currently play the English Concertina, you will quickly be playing tunes on the app. IMPORTANT: Since you may want to play chord with four or more fingers on the screen at the same time, before playing, disable "Multitasking Gestures" on your iPad (in the Settings app, under the General section, turn the Multitasking Gestures switch to the off position). To play, place the iPad on your lap and press the buttons. Scale patterns on an English Concertina alternate between buttons on the left and right sides. Multiple buttons may be pressed at the same time to play chords. Touch the '?' in the upper right corner to show/hide the note names. Touch the 'i' to bring up the controls where you may transpose the pitch up or down up to one octave in semitone increments. Touch the number to the right of the transpose slider to reset the transpose to zero. When transposed, the note labels do not change, just the pitch produced. All settings are saved when the app exits. Uses extremely high-quality per-button audio samples recorded from my personal concertina collection.

Fun and useful English concertina app!
I've been playing the Anglo concertina for over a year, and I was curious about the English system. This is a wonderful stand-in for the real thing by allowing you to see and hear the note layout and how the right and left hands work together. Highly recommended! Show more

    Top notch!
I play the English concertina. This app is a lot of fun and is a great stand in for the real thing. I strongly recommend it for the concertina-curious and for players who want a quiet way to practice. I have had the app for a couple of years now. I use it on my iPad 2. It has never frozen, and has great sound. It is easy to use, although the English Concertina is a challenge to learn, this nice app can give you a head start. I contacted the developer once and received a prompt, friendly response. I suspect all of Eskin's apps are of a similar caliber because of his attention to detail and apparent love of traditional music. Thank you! Excellent! Show more

I'm stunned by the existence of this app!
Who would have thought there would be an English Concertina app floating around out there? I can't afford a real concertina yet, so when I found this for such a low price, I didn't even have a second thought. As of this morning, I've just finished picking out the notes of some old favorite songs and am starting to get used to the fingering of this instrument. Hopefully, by the time I get a real concertina, I will just have to learn how to work the bellows. :D Show more
