    Works great
    Simple. The strips are cool.

This is an excellent app, & it works in unpaid mode.
I am a software NOT a hardware engineer, so I have no idea if it is even possible to use the microphone of an iphone to measure dBs with any useful precision. This application gives results consistent wih well rated iOS and Android apps - I have compared it to about 8 others. Show more

    They finally got it Calibrated.
I’ve been using Decibels for years having found the chart recorder extremely useful, however it always read dB a little higher than it really was. The last update corrected that and it now has correct readings. They also added different weighting settings A,C andZ. The basic meter is great and I recommend getting the options as it makes the best meter using chart recorders. Show more

    Good enough I guess
Every place you check, the approximate dB SPL of various sounds is a bit different. For example, other reviewers claim a quiet room is ~40dB, but various websites online say it’s 30 or even 20dB. My room at night measures 36dB. Similarly, conversation at 1m away is around 40-60dB, so I stood 1m away and spoke quietly, quieter than I would in a normal conversation in a quiet room (and I’m not a loud speaker). The app measured ~70dB. I guess I should just automatically reduce any measurement by ~5-10dB. Good enough if absolute accuracy isn’t a must, I guess. 4 stars, since I don’t have a good decibel meter to compare against. Show more

    Recorder does not work
While the free app works, do not waste your money. The strip chart recorder does not work

    Elegant and Simple
I’ve used this app for years, and have found it quite useful, without distracting bells and whistles. I’ve also corresponded with the developer, and found that the weighting (which is not evident) is broadband. Some of the features of a lab meter would be nice to have, like switchable A- or C-weighting, or averaging vs instantaneous readings. But the app is quick and easy as it is, and ads do not intrude. Fails at high end
At a NASCAR race at Dover it registered 90 when the green flag dropped. We were at the end of the straightaway just before turn 1. The cars came roaring; we were less than 25 meters from the track and the decibel level supposedly only increased to 95. If you’ve ever been that close to a start or restart you know the decibel level is well over a hundred. With head phones off and screaming in your neighbor’s face you cannot hear a word they are screaming! Show more

    I tried multiple...
I tried multiple (free) versions and I do like this one the best! Simple. Straight to the point.

It used to work, but recently stopped
I've had this app for a few years and barely used it. I tried several times recently to use it, but to no avail. I'm deleting it and going with a different one. Not sure what the problem is (or was). Show more

    Seems pretty accurate
I will have my sound engineer look at it. 73#

    Could be great
But the meter is too slow to respond to the sound level and does not show peak level,

    Very Useful but One Request
This is great for documenting sound levels but would soar with the addition of a Date and Time and GPS stamp. For noise complaints that would be a crucial addition and put this one above the crowd. Show more

    Stopped Working
Loved this simple app in iOS 5. Doesn't seem to do a thing in iOS 7.

    Great! But....
It would be nice if it allowed me to go into a landscape view when I tilt my phone over. Just a a personal preference. And nothing a quick up date can't fix! Thanks! Show more

    nice update
I’ve been using the old version from time to time to check the loudness of my environment taking screenshots to remember them. Now I can finally add the decibels to an image :) The strip chart recorder is a great addition … very nice interface. The app overall is neatly designed and programmed with an eye for details. Thanks a lot. Nice work! Show more
