    great tone workshop
Amazing reverb, have had the app for 7years and learned overtime much about the morphological beauty of granular synthesis. Certainly not ABSOLUTELY perfect, but 95% of it is. The most notable thing is the reverb disengages upon a notification or phonecall, but to get it back engaged, one simply moves the “gain” or “wet” reverb parameters a wee-slight bit, then the reverb is fully present most importantly, the way you had it set originally. The one issue I wish wooji juice to buckle down is the “arppegiator” tempo really isn’t fully accurate, and it seems only explained by comparing how powerful the synth and signal path can be that maybe there isn’t enough left in the App to ensure real time BPMs. I love the idea of the parametric sequencer but it’s under the same clock issue so i don’t use it because it can’t articulate smooth parametric changes if the clock isn’t on time. One of the many home runs is the “lock” for the keys, and the “chord” arppegiation which can be used to compose MASSIVE drones and soundscape, morphing guitar sweeps(if you record into the mic) and sequences that take about a month to cycle through. Combining that with the most notable tool, the parameter LFOs found on about 90% of controls(including flange and chorus rate for doppleresque effect!) you can modulate both octave and pitch with their own respective wave shapes and make sequences last over a year, see you next thanksgiving! The xy section is a truly advanced area and should come way after one grasps the apps main functions, along with the ribbon controler. One more occasional glitch occurring during looping grains can be heard to shift harmonics for no reason, so just switch out of the synth mode during looping and switch right back, glitch erased. so these two glitches can be worked around, i would ask apple to implement a sixth star if you make the clock keep accurate BPMs, but pretty sure your over it. I’ll still enjoy the inter dimensional sounds coming out of this phone, regardless. thank you. Show more

    Won't Open Anymore
App will not open. Crashed instantly.

Really wish it had AUv3 support
The engine sounds really terrific, the UI is intuitive, and the app supports multichannel midi input. It doesn't yet work with Audiobus 3's MIDI input feature, though, or support being loaded as an AUv3 Show more

    Classic must-have granular synth
Some fantastic sounds. Highly recommended. Thanks for the update, Wooji Juice!

    A winner
I think I may love this synth even more than the mighty Mitosynth.

    One of my favorite synths.

    I can't believe how good
I can't believe how good this synth is. I have a lot of vst plugins I wish this were one them!!

    Fantastic!
The amount of control over every nuance of the sound, evolving through time is impressive. It does have excellent presets if you are a beginner to synthcraft, but the power of its engine, parameters, and effects will satisfy synth masters too. Show more

    Outstanding iOS synth
Like other synths, Grain Science has a learning curve, but reading the manual really helped. The app has preset granular synth sounds, but Grain Science really comes into its own when you use the synth to convert recorded instrumental and other sounds into granules, recombine the granules in various ways, and then use the synth's filters and other tools to create novel sounds. This is an outstanding synth. Show more

    Microsound
This excellent app, which I purchased for the 5th gen iPod Touch running iOS 8, is a very polished, professional, and modern synthesis engine. If you are interested in creating new music with different soundscapes, timbres, and textural effects, then this is the app for you! It works very well on the smaller screen of the Touch, and there has pretty much all of the interface amenities and functional features that the iPad version has. I would recommend looking at their tutorials/videos, and also reading the granular synthesis chapter in Curtis Roads book "Microsound" as kind of a theoretical background for working in Grain Science. I was considering buying a Kurzweil synth, but this app is better! I haven't even begun to scratch the surface of what it can do. Looking forward to MIDI interfacing it with a keyboard. Basically, I want to use it as an ambient background soft machine, plus some leads in recording and performance. Thanks to Wooji Juice for providing such a beautiful tool to musicians! WoojiJuice has outstanding and very responsive, helpful customer service. I wrote a series of emails to their chief developer, and got back many hints, suggestions, and basic information. Incredibly good! Show more

    This is the only Lemmon
This guys apps are AWSOME but the scrolling from the various menus is way too tedious and totally kills the fun parts of this app.peace Christo

    Top shelf synth
If you're looking for a dirty, gritty synth, Grain Science is for you (it's also capable of other sounds, of course). I use this for all my "Trent Reznor-esque" tracks, as it can howl and growl. So deep. Must have! Show more

Did not display properly on iPhone 6 plus
I really like this app, but the top of the app was cut off and thus the application unusable on my iPhone 6 plus. Please note swiping down did not work... After deleting the app and reloading it, swipe now works properly. iPad version works better from a ui perspective! Show more

Please make it inter app audio ready so it shows up on Tabletop
And have better presets. I won't buy an additional synth from you guys.

    Needs more factory sounds...
I’ve had this for a while. I own all good synths on the iPad, I mean, all. Grain Science has great sound and a lot of potential. In my case, however, I don’t have time to play around and make my own patches. The ones that are included are ok to good but very few. I would love to see an update with lots of sounds showing what this synth can really do, which Im sure its a lot. Newer synths come with hundreds of sounds. Having said that, If someone is evaluating this synth, don’t base your purchase on my comments. This is my particular case. I’m sure some of you are doing fantastic things with this synth. Show more

    Honestly
One of my favorite synths ever made. I love this. Taking sound samples and manipulating them. From very organic warm sounds to as tech as possible. This is truly one of the best and in a class all its own. Show more

Grain Science Shines at Sound Design
This is an update on this app. Read original review below. I love this app! Making new tones out of almost anything is ludicrous. My last tone was based on a guitar and sounds great. Audiobus, ACP, and other functions work really well and is very stable. My favorite grain synth on iOS. Previous Review: Wow, this app is terrific! At first, I was a little intimidated by the number of pages and slew of parameters the this synth has, but I was able to make a new sound with great ease. There are options for many parameters and you can get from the simple sounds to crazy sounds. This is a fantastic instrument and if you are looking for a different take on sound creation, this is your app. Show more

Objects In Mirror Are Closer Than They Appear
I've had this app a while and found the presets interesting but was a little disappointed by how few there were. Now more recently experimenting with this amazing tool, I'm swimming deep into synthesis oceans. Such unique and original sounds to be made with this app. One small gripe...while the filter is very good and playable, it steps too much in the lower frequencies. However have learned to used this as a signature quirk of the engine. This app has once again been moved to my favorite instrument folder. Show more

    Great addition
iOS synths have begun giving hardware and software synths a run for their money, well actually, at iOS prices they blow away other options for the musician on a budget(90% of us). This has so many oscillator and fx options you can really shape the tone you're looking for. Sampling is always a welcome feature with granular synthesis, and in this case you can really just hold your device up to something without worrying about some rigged mic setup. I was happy to find a ribbon option, that alone makes this infinitely more enjoyable. Great synth, and actually practical in studio/stage use. Show more
